Man Utd record 11th 4-4 draw in club's long history

A coupe of years later, a game away to our next opponents, Aston Villa, finished all square after a glut of goals, as David Pegg hit a brace against the Midlanders, after Jackie Blanchflower and Colin Webster had found the net.

In January 1959, Bobby Charlton converted a penalty in a 4-4 home draw with Newcastle United and, in the following year, the Reds legend opened the scoring again as the same scoreline was recorded away to Fulham, with Albert Quixall claiming a brace.

A decade passed until our next 4-4 thriller, at Derby County’s Baseball Ground. Denis Law hit a double, George Best netted and Brian Kidd was also on the mark in a classic clash entertaining the crowd on Boxing Day.

In Division Two, we shared eight goals with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in December 1974, with Lou Macari scoring twice. There was a long gap then, until the Everton game in 2012.

It is worth pointing out we have had two 5-5 draws in our history, way back in 1895 against Lincoln City and the very last game of Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure, at West Brom in 2013.
