Snow in Saudi Arabia could spread to Riyadh and Qassim say authorities
The alert comes after snowfall was recorded in high-altitude areas on Wednesday, June 17.
Hussein Al-Qahtani, official spokesperson of the National Centre for Meteorology, said weather analysis indicates chances of snowfall tomorrow over parts of the northern Riyadh Region and Qassim Region, following similar conditions observed today in the highlands of Tabuk and Hail regions.
He said the situation is driven by a very cold air mass accompanied by atmospheric instability.
Snowfall in Saudi Arabia
According to Al-Qahtani, the expected weather conditions include a significant drop in temperatures, with precipitation that may fall as snow at higher elevations, particularly during night-time and early morning hours.
He said the NCM is monitoring developments continuously around the clock.
He urged the public to follow official weather reports and updates issued by the centre, exercise caution in affected areas, and avoid risks linked to severe cold weather and rapid temperature declines.
Al-Qahtani also stressed the importance of adhering to instructions issued by relevant authorities, noting that the NCM will release further updates should there be any changes to the expected weather conditions.
Snowfall recorded in Trojena
Separately, the Trojena highlands witnessed snowfall earlier today, accompanied by light rainfall. Light to moderate rain was also recorded in Bi’r Bin Hirmas, Al-Uyaynah, Halat Ammar, and Shigry, as well as surrounding areas.
The latest developments underscore the impact of the ongoing cold wave across northern and high-altitude regions of the Kingdom.
