Gabby Logan couldn’t resist making a comment about Anton Du Beke as she and her husband, Kenny Logan, discussed their journeys on Strictly Come Dancing

Gabby Logan has taken a light-hearted swipe at former Strictly Come Dancing professional, turned judge, Anton Du Beke. The BBC presenter competed on the show with her dance partner James Jordan back in 2007.

At the same time, Gabby’s husband Kenny also took part in the competition alongside James’ wife and fellow professional dancer, Ola Jordan.

In a recent podcast appearance together, the couple were quizzed about their time on Strictly and Gabby couldn’t resist taking a dig at Anton.

During his 16 years of competing, the 59-year-old had little success with his partners, something he often pokes fun at himself.

Speaking on the Stick to Rugby podcast, the married couple were asked about the shows they had appeared on together, which has included Strictly and the game show Mr and Mrs.

When asked who was better on the former, Kenny quickly replied: “Look at the history books.”

Gabby, 52, became the fourth contestant to be voted out of the series, while Kenny finished in fifth place.

Reflecting on their stint, the host continued: “Kenny went on a journey,” to which he jokingly chimed in: “‘I got voted out after week two’, that was her journey.”

In response, Gabby quipped: “Put it this way, if he could’ve danced with Anton Du Beke he would’ve been that person.”

Hitting back, Kenny joked: “Stick to what you’re good at sweetheart.”

In her autobiography The First Half, released in 2022, the presenter admitted she was left in tears when the judges chose to save Rod Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, over her.

Addressing her emotions with The Times, she said: “It was a harsh lesson, learning that sometimes not everyone likes you. You realise the parts of your personality that you thought were attributes as a sportswoman are not valued.

“I was told I was being too competitive, whereas I was thinking, ‘I thought that was good. That’s what I did in sport – and it worked – and that’s what my husband is doing’.

“I actually reckon there was a societal shift between that show in 2007 and 2012. At the 2012 Olympics we started to appreciate tough, competitive women.

“We made heroes of them. But in 2007 I wasn’t playing the game expected of a woman.”

In 2023, Anton joined Gabby as a guest on her The Mid.Point podcast. During the episode, they discussed their Strictly journeys and the so-called show curse.

The term “curse” is often used to describe when a celebrity or professional’s relationship has broken down during or shortly after their time on the show.

Gabby said, for her, she found it “weird” to be so up-close to another male who wasn’t Kenny, though didn’t believe the “curse” existed.

“I think if you go on Strictly and you want romance , you might find some. If you go on Strictly and you’re in a good relationship and you don’t want romance, you’re not going to get any. There’s no curse,” she shared.

“There’s just lots of fit people around the place and if you happen to be single and fancy being with a fit person, there’ll be somebody there for you.”
