Celtic Must Sell Awful 3/10 Star in January
Wilfired Nancy is under serious pressure at Celtic following a disastrous start to his time at the club.
A 2-1 defeat against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night condemned the Bhoys to a fourth defeat in a row under the French coach, signalling a disastrous start to his reign at Parkhead.
That run of four consecutive defeats is the worst losing run that Celtic have endured since 1978, a record that is 47 years old.
Nancy is now fighting to keep hold of his job with the Scottish giants, but he’s not the only one who could be shipped out in the next couple of weeks.
Kasper Schmeichel Endures Dundee United Nightmare
One of Celtic’s worst performers against Dundee United was the man brought in to provide crucial experience in trying circumstances, Kasper Schmeichel.
The Danish goalkeeper has endured a difficult campaign which didn’t get any better on Wednesday night as he put in a shaky performance at Tannadice Park.
Given a rating of just 3 out of 10 by Football Insider, Schmeichel made five saves and conceded twice as he faced 16 shots. His distribution was a real problem as he completed just 67% of his passes and 42% of his long kicks. This result means that Schmeichel has now conceded 28 times this term.
Celtic Must Try To Offload Schmeichel
With the January window just around the corner, Celtic have a decision to make regarding Schmeichel. The 39-year-old has suffered a swift decline in his performance levels this term and that has to be hugely concerning for the Scottish side.
Schmeichel’s contract expires in the summer and that could lead to Celtic’s hierarchy cutting their losses on the player in order to bring in a more adequate replacement.
Stefan Ortega of Manchester City has been linked with a move to Parkhead and given that he’s now third-choice at Man City, he could be tempted to make a move in order to play regular first team football. On current form, Ortega would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Schmeichel who looks like a far cry from the goalkeeper who dominated in the Premier League and the international scene for Denmark for so many years.
Celtic are facing a pivotal few months and as a result, they need to get ruthless. It might be that Nancy is sacked before long, but he’s not the only current employee who should be axed.
