Five World Cup talents to watch in Serie A: Djed Spence, Donyell Malen and more
The 2026-2027 Serie A season is about to kick off this weekend around Italy, where Cristian Chivu’s Inter will try to defend the title against rivals such as AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus. You can see all the action all season long live on Paramount+.
While the teams are preparing for the new season, there are some talents that have already shined this summer at the 2026 World Cup and are now ready to start their upcoming club season in the Italian Serie A. Some of them are new faces in their teams, others are not. Let’s take a look now at five of the most interesting Serie A talents that have shined at the World Cup and that you can see all season long.
Kerim Alajbegovic, Juventus
The Bianconeri have signed the Bosnian attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen. Alajbegovic attracted the interest of multiple Italian clubs after knocking Italy out of the World Cup playoffs back in March and then featuring in the Bosnian national team at the summer tournament, one of the surprises of the World Cup. Alajbegovic, who will turn 19 in September, is considered one of the best talents of the Italian Serie A and can become a key player under Luciano Spalletti’s management. The Bianconeri will play both Serie A and Europa League, meaning that players like Alajbegovic can have an immediate impact in the team’s rotations, as the whole roster will be called to feature in one of the two competitions. Watch out for him.
Diego Moreira, AC Milan
The latest AC Milan signing is definitely one of those players who need to be watched this season in Italy. Moreira, signed by the Rossoneri from Strasbourg for around $50 million, came through the academies of Benfica and Standard Liege. Despite spending most of his youth career representing Portugal, he opted to play for Belgium at senior level, also holding a Portuguese passport. The Italian giants signed him as the natural replacement for Rafael Leao, as Moreira’s favorite role is attacking left winger, but there is also a chance the two will need to co-exist, as there are no advanced talks for the departure of the Portuguese star.
Djed Spence, Inter
Inter had to bid farewell to one of their best players, Denzel Dumfries, this summer, as the Dutchman joined Real Madrid after the Spanish giants triggered his $20 million release clause. The Nerazzurri moved to replace him, signing former Tottenham winger Djed Spence for $30 million. Spence was one of the surprising calls of England manager Thomas Tuchel this summer but turned out to become one of the best English players at the World Cup, showcasing some outstanding performances. He has the potential to improve even more in the Italian Serie A under Chivu’s management. It won’t be easy to make the Inter fans forget about Dumfries, but he definitely has the potential.
Martin Baturina, Como
The Croatian striker was one of the most interesting signings of the summer of 2025, but his first season at Como wasn’t as expected. Following a strong World Cup campaign, in which he also scored against England in the tournament’s opening game, he is expected to play a much more important role for Cesc Fabregas and Como next season. The club will also face the added challenge of competing in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
Donyell Malen, AS Roma
When AS Roma signed Malen from Aston Villa in January 2026, he immediately had an impact on the season of the Giallorossi, scoring 14 goals in 18 matches in the Italian Serie A. He is now ready to replicate those numbers at club level after AS Roma made his move permanent. The striker is expected to lead Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack, having started three games for the Netherlands at the World Cup. Following a successful spell with the Giallorossi last season, he will now look to spearhead Roma’s campaign in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

Five key Premier League storylines heading into new season
It’s a brand-new slate for English soccer’s 20 best teams ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
The new campaign begins on Friday when reigning champions Arsenal host newly promoted Coventry City, managed by former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, as part of a busy opening weekend that also features Manchester City vs. Bournemouth in a battle between two top-six clubs from last season.
Here are five storylines to keep close tabs on during the upcoming English top-flight season.
Arsenal looks to repeat as Premier League champions
Arsenal topped the Premier League table by seven points over Manchester City last season to claim their first title since 2003-04, and they look poised to repeat as champs.
The good news for manager Mikel Arteta is that a majority of the Gunners’ championship roster from last season remains intact, which includes defenders Jurriën Timber and William Saliba, and midfielder Declan Rice, who were all named to the league’s best XI, as well as top scorers Viktor Gyökeres, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who combined for 43 goals across all competitions in 2025-26.
What’s more, the London-based club has strengthened its squad with the summer transfer acquisitions of Greek forward Christos Tzolis (from Club Brugge) and Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães (from Newcastle United), giving Arteta even more quality options to choose from.
Arsenal gave us a taste of what to expect from them this year when they rampaged to a 3-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Community Shield final last weekend.
Pep Guardiola’s exit highlights managerial changes
Determining who is best positioned to challenge Arsenal for the title this season is tough because of the huge managerial turnover rate in the Premier League. No less than nine clubs — or 45 per cent of the teams in the English top-flight — will begin the campaign with a new manager.
Under normal circumstances, Manchester City would be the best bet to push Arsenal, but the Blues no longer have Pep Guardiola at the helm. The Spaniard stepped down last season after winning all there was to win during his decade in charge of the club.
He’s been replaced by Enzo Maresca, who boasts a decent resume, having won the Championship with Leicester City, and UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea. But the Italian stepped down as manager of the London club in January amidst growing tensions with ownership.
Other top clubs with new coaches include Liverpool (Andoni Iraola), Chelsea (Xabi Alonso) and Newcastle (Matthias Jaissle). They all competed in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League, but questions have to be asked whether they can mount a credible title change against Arsenal with new coaches at the helm.
The Premier League said goodbye to West Ham United, Burnley and Wolves, who finished in the bottom three of the table and were relegated to the second-tier English Championship.
Who’ll be going down at the end of the upcoming campaign? Look no further for possible candidates than the three newly promoted sides: Coventry City, Ipswich Town and promotion playoff winner Hull City, featuring Canadian international Liam Millar.
Seven of the last nine teams promoted to the top-flight have all gone straight back down to the Championship, including Burnley, who finished second from the bottom with just four wins and 22 points last season.
Beyond the promoted sides, Sunderland and Fulham could also be in danger of suffering the drop. Sunderland finished seventh in 2025-26, but they had one of the worst offensive records (just 42 goals) and didn’t make any significant moves in the transfer market to bolster their attack. Fulham was 11th a season ago, and they lost key attackers Harry Wilson and Raúl Jiménez without sufficiently replacing them.
Canadian Promise David’s big chance
Fresh off a solid World Cup campaign, Canadian international forward Promise David has finally hit the big time of the Premier League. David recently completed a move from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise to Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan. The deal includes a purchase option for a reported fee of $29.7 million US.
David has four goals in 14 caps since making his international debut for Canada – one of his goals came in a 2-1 loss to Switzerland in the group stage of the World Cup. The burly striker has lit up the Belgian league over the last two seasons with 41 goals in 82 matches. Prior to that, he toiled with clubs in Croatia, Malta and Estonia
This represents a massive career opportunity for David, a 25-year-old from Brampton, Ont. This loan spell provides him with a chance to play at one of the highest levels of European football and earn a permanent move to a club that has played in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons and finished eighth during the 2025-26 campaign.
Newcomer to keep an eye on: Johan Manzambi
Still only 20, the Swiss midfielder is one of the most promising prospects in world football. Manzambi was a central figure in SC Freiburg’s remarkable run in last season’s UEFA Europa League final — he was named the tournament’s young player of the season.
Manzambi followed that up with a solid showing at the FIFA World Cup, in which he had three goals and a pair of assists for Switzerland, which reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1954 when it hosted the competition.
Aston Villa was so impressed with what they saw from Manzambi at the World Cup that they paid a reported £59.5 million transfer fee to Freiburg, who they defeated in the Europa League final, for the services of the Swiss international. Manzambi is a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder noted for his energetic and dynamic play, qualities that should make him a good fit for the fast-paced English Premier League.

What are the allegations against Love Your Enemy actor Hong Min-gi? Complete drama explained as former partner alleges animal abuse and more
South Korean actor Hong Min-gi has become the subject of serious allegations from a woman identified as “A,” who claims she was previously in a relationship with him. According to a report by Chosunbiz, the influencer, who reportedly has more than 20,000 followers, has shared details of her claims on social media on August 19, 2026. She has also shared parts of a legal notice that she says was sent to Hong Min-gi through her legal representative on July 28.
A accused the actor of dating violence, physical assault, threats, intimidation, emotional abuse and invasion of privacy. She alleged that Hong once threw a soju bottle on the street, causing it to break, and also threw other objects during arguments. She claimed he hit her shoulder, pushed her and grabbed her by the neck.
According to A, Hong became suspicious that she was talking to a former boyfriend after her phone was turned off. After that, he called her more than 40 times and later threatened both her and the former boyfriend. She claimed he said he intended to kill them if he found them and allegedly threatened to kill the former boyfriend.
She also alleged that Hong Min-gi secretly checked her phone and KakaoTalk conversations because he suspected she had been unfaithful. She further claimed that he rode an electric kickboard while intoxicated, with her accompanying him, and that the incident resulted in serious injuries. She also said she had photographs documenting those injuries.
The former partner described what she called a repeated pattern of verbal abuse, intimidation and emotional manipulation. She alleged that Hong Min-gi told her that his mental health problems had returned because of her, said he wanted to die and suggested that they should die together. She also claimed he insulted her and later behaved affectionately, which she initially interpreted as love.
A said she continued to feel responsible for his reported panic disorder after their breakup. She alleged that she visited his home several times and apologized. However, he responded by swearing and kicking objects for extended periods. She further accused him of trying to initiate s**ual contact after their relationship had already ended, claiming that he pushed her onto a bed and touched her without her consent.
She also alleged that Hong Min-gi made derogatory comments about women, including statements about women becoming less desirable with age and also that women should serve in the military.
A additionally claimed he made disparaging comments about a former girlfriend who was now an actress. He also used profanity toward other actors, staff members, and directors he had worked with.
The accusations also extended to his relationship with fans. A also claimed Hong looked down on fans who spent money and time supporting him and allegedly complained about attending a fan-organized birthday event. A also accused him of verbally abusing and kicking his pet dog, Leo. She claimed that after she sent the legal notice, he cut off contact and left the dog alone at home for several days.
A said she initially did not understand the relationship as abusive and only recognized what she believed had happened several weeks after the breakup. She described experiencing fear, trembling, sweating and sleeplessness and said the effects interfered with her daily life. She eventually told her parents and said she began legal action because she wanted Hong Min-gi to acknowledge his alleged actions and apologize.
Hong Min-gi’s agency denies dating violence allegations, accuses former partner of stalking and defamation
Hong Min-gi’s agency, Fable Company, initially said it was checking the circumstances and preparing its position. The agency later issued a response rejecting key parts of A’s account and presented a substantially different version of the relationship.
According to Fable Company, Hong Min-gi and A began dating around April 2026. The agency claimed that A continued communicating with a former boyfriend, which caused the actor to lose trust in the relationship. It said Hong Min-gi repeatedly made clear that he did not want to continue dating her.
The agency alleged that A continued making calls and approaching Hong Min-gi after the relationship ended. It claimed that she repeatedly went to his home and his family’s home and, at around 1 a.m. on one occasion, arrived at the actor’s residence and continued ringing the doorbell until 4 a.m. The agency described the incident as an unwanted approach and said Hong Min-gi had previously avoided public statements and legal action because he wanted the relationship to end peacefully.
Fable Company also denied allegations involving pet abuse and other claims made by A, saying that several of her assertions differed from the facts as understood by the actor and his representatives. The agency accused A of using the actor’s public image to pressure him and claimed she distributed statements it considered false or defamatory.
The company said Hong Min-gi had been subjected to stalking and intended to pursue legal action. It stated that it would use objective evidence and legal procedures to establish the facts and consider civil and criminal measures, including action over alleged stalking and defamation. The agency also asked the public not to spread unverified claims or speculate about the matter.
The dispute has also drawn attention to the actor’s upcoming projects. The actor has reportedly completed filming for the second season of TVING’s Study Group, where he played Park Geon-yeop in the first season. The production team said it had only recently become aware of the allegations and would need to verify the circumstances because the issue concerns the actor’s personal life.
Hong Min-gi was born on March 12, 2002, and began his acting career in 2020. He gained wider attention through supporting roles and appearances in several Korean television and streaming productions. His credits include Love Your Enemy, Study Group, Crushology 101, Doctor on the Edge, and more.

Emmanuel Samuel Joins Albanian Side FK Laçi from Blessed Stars Academy
Nigerian youngster Emmanuel Samuel has completed his move to Albanian top-flight club FK Laçi from Blessed Stars Academy.
The promising left-back was one of the standout players for Blessed Stars Academy during the 2025/26 NLO season, featuring in all their matches as the club narrowly missed out on a place in the promotion play-offs.

Emmanuel Samuel attracted attention with his dribbling, pace and creativity, establishing himself as one of the exciting young defenders to watch. His performances also led to interest from several clubs, but FK Laçi won the race for his signature.

Blessed Stars Academy confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, August 19, in a post on their social media pages.
“We are delighted to announce that Emmanuel Samuel has completed his move to KF Laçi, a first division side in Albania from Blessed Stars Academy.
“Another important step forward in his football journey and a well deserved opportunity to compete at the professional level.
“Go and make your mark, Emmanuel! We wish you the very best in this new chapter of your career.”

Emmanuel Samuel now faces a new challenge in Europe as he looks to establish himself in professional football and continue his development in Albania.
FK Laçi, officially known as Klubi i Futbollit Laçi, are based in Laç, Albania, and play their home matches at Laçi Stadium. The club, founded in 1960, wear white and black and are back in the Kategoria Superiore, Albania’s top division, for the 2026/27 season.
Laçi secured promotion after winning the 2025/26 Kategoria e Parë title with 79 points, finishing two points ahead of Skënderbeu.
Their return to the top flight will begin on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when they face Elbasani.
The club is coached by Qatip Osmani, the 57-year-old North Macedonian who took charge ahead of the new season.
For Emmanuel Samuel, the move represents a major step in his young career, and he will be hoping to make an immediate impression as he begins his first chapter in European football.

India vs Pakistan LIVE Score, Hockey World Cup 2026: India Get Massive Boost Minutes Ahead Of Match vs Pakistan
England put on a dominant show and outplayed Wales by a massive margin of 8-2 in their Pool D game. This means that a draw against Pakistan would be enough to take India into the second round of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 now. Their arch-rivals, in such a case, will be eliminated.
The criterion stays unchanged for Pakistan, though. They need to win this game to advance to the next round.

Kawhi Leonard Gives Raptors Exactly What They Need in New-Look East
Earlier this week, the NBA wrapped up their investigation involving the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard circumventing the salary cap using fake endorsement deals.
This means that at some point this offseason, the Clippers will be able to finalize their reported trade from earlier this summer, sending Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and draft picks.
Leonard rejoining the Raptors will make them a real force in a much-improved Eastern Conference.
Last season, the Raptors were one of the surprise teams in the NBA. They were a consistent basketball team all season and finished as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. In the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the Raptors had the Cleveland Cavaliers on the ropes, forcing a Game 7 in which Jarrett Allen came up big and ended Toronto’s season.
But the series showed that the Raptors belonged on the biggest stage with one of the better teams in the East. The Cavs were four wins away from the NBA Finals, and Toronto had them on the ropes in Round 1.
Adding Leonard into the mix will give the Raptors that championship-level mindset that could’ve made the difference against the Cavs. The 35-year-old might not be the same player that led the Raptors to an NBA championship in 2019, but he’s still one of the elite wings in the entire sport.
Ingram missed two of Toronto’s seven games in the postseason against the Cavaliers, and the Raptors were still on the precipice of taking down Cleveland. Ingram is undoubtedly a great player, but Leonard raises the ceiling to another level.
It was a big offseason for the Eastern Conference, and the Raptors should be thankful that this investigation is wrapped and their trade can become official. The Miami Heat, who were on the doorstep of the NBA Playoffs via the NBA Play-In Tournament, executed a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks that earned them Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Philadelphia 76ers, who finished as the No. 7 seed, pulled off a huge trade for Jaylen Brown before convincing LeBron James to join in free agency.
Antetokounmpo won a championship with the Bucks. Brown won a title with the Boston Celtics. And LeBron has four rings and is widely regarded as the greatest player of this generation.
That’s a lot of championship-level talent in this new-look East. Toronto adding Leonard gives them a seat at the table, while other contending teams like the Detroit Pistons and Cavaliers were big losers this offseason.
The New York Knicks won a championship in a season that nobody saw them coming. The rest of the league took that as an indication that the Eastern Conference was wide open. There’s plenty of talent in this new-look conference, but the Raptors adding Leonard should make them a serious contender to do at least what they did last year, if not go a little further.

Man United handed Myles Lewis-Skelly transfer boost as Arsenal statement opens door
Arsenal’s versatile talent Myles Lewis-Skelly has been offered to Manchester United this summer, with Michael Carrick still looking to add quality to his squad before the window shuts
Arsenal chief executive officer Richard Garlick has said the club would “consider” selling Manchester United target Myles Lewis-Skelly if the “right opportunity” came up.
Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that United had been offered Lewis-Skelly following Arsenal’s decision to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle.
United are searching a new left-back before the end of the transfer window, and although Newcastle’s Lewis Hall appears to be their first-choice target, Lewis-Skelly is an option.
The 19-year-old started in midfield and impressed for Arsenal during their 3-0 win against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, and is still expected to have a major role for the Gunners, despite Guimaraes’ arrival.
But now, Garlick has opened up on Lewis-Skelly’s future and did not rule out a potential departure before the September 1 deadline. “There’s been a lot of speculation around players,” said Garlick, when asked about Lewis-Skelly and his Arsenal teammate Ethan Nwaneri.
“I can’t stop other clubs being interested. I think Myles has had a fantastic end to last season and has started this one really well – we’re very, very happy with him.
“Ethan has had a great pre-season as well and I think it’s just a case of looking at what opportunities there are that will help both of those in terms of their career moving forward.
“We are not actively looking at selling those homegrown players but if the right opportunity came up – right for them and the club – we’d obviously consider that.”
Garlick’s comments come a matter of days after Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta said that he welcomes speculation around his players, amid increased talk around Lewis-Skelly’s future.
The 2006-born defender had scored for the Gunners in a 1-1 draw against Serie A side Como last Wednesday and celebrated by making a heart sign to the crowd before tapping the badge.
FOLLOW OUR MAN UNITED FB PAGE! Latest news and analysis via the MEN’s Manchester United Facebook page
“It’s good to be emotional after scoring, you should be emotional when you score a goal,” Arteta said post-match. “He’s a very emotional player, you see with his gestures on the pitch.
“I’m not going to talk about speculation. If there is speculation about our players, it’s a good sign. That means our players attract attention and are doing a good job.”
Alongside United, it emerged that Chelsea were another club that had been offered Lewis-Skelly’s services. The England international, however, still has four years left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Though Lewis-Skelly can be useful in midfield, if he did join United is more likely he would be used as a left-back with Carlos Baleba poised to become the next summer signing through the door at Old Trafford.
Baleba is closing in on joining the Reds for £60million plus add-ons from Brighton in what would be United’s third midfield addition following Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans’ moves to the club.

Mike Tyson makes Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn prediction: “He’s getting better”
Contrary to the vast majority of predictions, it seems, Mike Tyson is unsure that Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn ends inside the scheduled 12-round distance.
The pair will headline an event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on September 12, with Garcia making a first defence of his WBC title.
He became a world welterweight champion in February, dethroning Mario Barrios with a unanimous decision victory after flooring his man in the opening round.
This followed a points defeat to Rolando Romero in May 2025, which saw ‘King Ry’ produce a lacklustre performance after completing his year-long doping ban.
Benn, too, has previously tested positive for a banned substance, with a detection of clomifene leading to the cancellation of his 2022 encounter with Chris Eubank Jr.
‘The Destroyer’ did manage to revisit their domestic rivalry in April 2025, though, when an admittedly thrilling battle lent itself to a unanimous decision victory for Eubank.
Benn then won their rematch by the same verdict in November, at which point Eubank seemed particularly hampered by his gruelling cut down to 160lbs.
But still, many have credited Benn for showing signs of improvement, with Tyson backing Garcia while not quite bringing himself to predict a stoppage victory.
Speaking with FightHype, the former heavyweight champion gave respect to both men but ultimately expressed his belief in Garcia.
“Ryan [wins]. We’ll see [if it ends by knockout]. Conor’s getting better.”
While he may be an improving fighter, the 29-year-old has not fought at 147lbs since April 2022, back when he stopped Chris van Heerden in two rounds.
