Former England midfielder Dele Alli is set to join Italian outfit Como, pending a medical.

The 28-year-old has spent the last month training at the Serie A club and been offered an initial 18-month contract, with an option based on appearances for a further season.

Alli has been without a club since June when he left Everton, but he carried on training under then-manager Sean Dyche before joining Como on trial.

The former Tottenham and MK Dons player has not played a senior men’s football match since lining up in February 2023 for Turkish side Besiktas on loan.

In an emotional interview with Gary Neville later in July 2023, Alli revealed he was sexually abused at six-years-old and dealing drugs aged eight. He also admitted drinking alcohol and taking sleeping pills during his career, but emphasised his desire to return to playing after receiving support for his off-field problems.

Como returned to the Italian top flight for the first time in nearly 50 years last summer and are managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Spaniard Fabregas and Thierry Henry are also both minority investors in the club.
