Kyren Wilson took aim at Shaun Murphy’s age following his 10-7 defeat in the Masters final on Sunday, suggesting the 42-year-old champion “needs this more than me”.
The world champion’s remarks came immediately after losing to Murphy at Alexandra Palace in north London.
Wilson, 33, claimed Murphy was “turning into an old man now” in his post-match interview.
Murphy dominated the final from the early stages, building a commanding 6-2 lead in the afternoon session.

The 42-year-old maintained control despite a late comeback attempt from Wilson, who narrowed the gap from 8-4 to 8-7.
Murphy ultimately secured the final two frames to claim victory and the largest payday of his career – £350,000.
The champion produced an impressive display throughout, including four century breaks during Sunday’s final.

Speaking to BBC after the match, Wilson said: “No disrespect to Shaun, he is turning into an old man now. So he needs this more than me. I am 33 years old, coming into my prime and I am having an amazing season.”
The world champion remained defiant despite the loss, adding: “I am a lucky lad win or lose. Listen I lost, I am gutted, but I tell you what, I am going to consume so many jagerbombs tonight and have the best night ever.”

Murphy responded to Wilson’s comments with a measured tone, noting: “There is still a bit of life in the old dog yet.”
The two-time Masters champion revealed he had teamed up with Peter Ebdon, crediting him for renewed self-belief.

“If I am honest I thought my time was gone,” Murphy admitted. “I’ve teamed up with Peter and he was very strong, helped me rediscover that self-belief and helped remind me I used to be quite good at this.”
Despite the age-related comments, Murphy praised Wilson’s performance in defeat, saying: “I must pay tribute to Kyren, he is a great world champion.”

Murphy acknowledged the tense moments during Wilson’s comeback attempt, noting: “There was a stage where it was panic stations, so credit to Kyren.”
The final concluded in style as Murphy sealed victory with a century break of exactly 100, with Wilson offering a sporting handshake to the new champion.
