‘Future-proofed, high-quality homes’ set for Adelphi Village neighbourhood
The second phase of work in a new Salford neighbourhood which will have hundreds of new homes has been approved.
Planning permission has been granted to build 185 apartments with one, two and three-bedrooms on the former Farmer Norton car park on Cleminson Street.
This is phase two of the plans for Farmer Norton, which is part of the new Adelphi Village neighbourhood where more than 800 homes will be built in total once complete.
The first phase of work at Farmer Norton is set to bring 42 three-bedroom townhouses to the city.
The changes are part of the £2.5bn Crescent Salford masterplan led by Salford council, the University of Salford, and developer ECF.
Plans for Farmer Norton phase two will create two buildings up to five and six-storeys tall, a private courtyard garden, cycle storage, around 40 new trees, and planting.
Designs for the land were inspired by the former Adelphi Iron Works, which was based at the site until the mid-20th century.
Bosses behind the scheme said it also includes accessible homes, disabled parking spaces and flexible, mixed-use ground-floor space.
The site is close to Chapel Street and Trinity Way, with Salford Central train station around a ten-minute walk away.
Steve Thomas, senior development manager at ECF, said: “With planning consent received, we look forward to making a start on the next community in Adelphi Village.
“These future-proofed, high-quality homes are key to the creation of a sustainable, mixed tenure neighbourhood that meets the needs of different people in the Crescent area of the city.
“Working as a partnership, we’re utilising our experience in investment, housing and urban regeneration to deliver homes that prioritise the health and wellbeing of communities, whilst addressing the urgent requirement for quality housing in Salford.”
The wider Salford Crescent masterplan aims to build more than 3,000 homes in the city across six zones, alongside new spaces for businesses and research.
One of the landmark features of the project is Salford Rise, a 220m-long elevated walkway for pedestrians and cyclists across Frederick Road, which is set to finish by summer 2026.
