Wolves fans have been protesting against chairman Jeff Shi following years of decline on the pitch which could lead them to relegation from the Premier League this season
Crisis-ridden Wolves are looking for a new permanent chairman after Jeff Shi quit amid fierce fan protests. Wolves are rock bottom of the Premier League after failing to win any of their opening 16 games.
Rob Edwards’ side have mustered just two points so far, the worst start to a season in Premier League history. There was a change in manager last month, as Vitor Pereira was sacked and replaced by former player boss Edwards.
Now there’s been a change in the boardroom. Shi has stepped down from his role and will be replaced by namesake Nathan Shi – who’s no relation – on an interim basis.
Supporters have been protesting against their chairman for months, notably ahead of and during their recent 4-1 defeat at home to Manchester United. A healthy portion of home fans didn’t take their seats inside Molineux until the 15th minute and chants of ‘Jeff Shi is a w*****’ rang around the ground once they’d arrived.
Now they’ve got their wish. Although Fosun Sports Group – which Jeff Shi will remain chairman and CEO of – still have control of the club, Wolves confirmed on Friday night that he won’t have any involvement in operations.

In a statement, Shi said: “I took the keys to this chair with humility; today, I step aside with a heart full of gratitude. It has been an honour and a privilege to work alongside our leadership team, players, coaches, staff and – above all – our fans. Together, we have transformed the club into a global force, battling at the highest level.
“I would like to thank Fosun and the board for their trust, and every supporter for making Molineux shine. My seat may change, but my heart will still roar for this club every single game. I give my full support to the new management team and wish them every success in driving Wolves to even greater heights.”

Nathan Shi added: “It is with great pride and honour that I join Wolverhampton Wanderers, a club with a rich and distinguished history in English football and deep roots in the city of Wolverhampton.

Wolves host Brentford on Saturday. Failure to win would see them equal Sheffield United’s record of 17 games without a win at the start of the 2020-21 Premier League season.
