Andy Jenkins, a former world number 14, was kicked out of darts in disgrace earlier this year

A former PDC World Championship semi-finalist’s career is in tatters after he was hit with an 11-year ban for match-fixing. Andy Jenkins reached the last four at the 2007 tournament at the Circus Tavern, where he was beaten by eventual champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Like many others, he started his career on the BDO circuit, winning numerous titles but failing to make a significant impact at the Lakeside World Championship. In 2002, he switched to the PDC and rapidly climbed the rankings, reaching a career-high 14th in the world.

However, after slipping down the rankings and losing his PDC Tour card, Jenkins was kicked out of the sport in disgrace earlier this year after being found guilty of fixing 12 matches in the MODUS Super Series between February 2022 and July 2023, following an investigation into suspicious betting activity.

While he rejected match-fixing allegations, Jenkins admitted to placing 88 bets on matches between March 2022 and May 2023, for which he received an additional 12-month suspension, which runs concurrently with his other sanctions.

The 11-year ban, which was backdated to November 2023, will prevent him from playing in or being involved in any way with any Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) event until November 15, 2034. Jenkins was also ordered to pay £17,500 in costs.

Gambling Commission enforcement director John Pierce said: “This case sends a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople – if you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences.

“Betting customers in Britain deserve confidence that the markets they engage with are fair and free from corruption. Our sports betting intelligence unit will continue to work closely with partners such as the Darts Regulation Authority to identify and prevent match-fixing.”

A similar penalty was handed to Indian player Prakash Jiwa earlier this year for the same reasons as Jenkins. The Apache is no longer allowed to compete in any DRA events until November 6, 2031.

Last year, the DRA handed Leighton Bennett and Billy Warriner bans for several betting-related breaches, also at the Modus Super Series. Bennett and Warriner were banned for eight and 10 years, respectively.

The DRA decided “both players had a case to answer for serious breaches” of its rules. Having been suspended in August 2024, Bennett and Warriner were found guilty at a hearing in November 2024.

Bennett became the youngest BDO youth champion when only 13 years old in 2019. He also defeated 16-time world champion Phil Taylor in a high-profile exhibition that same year.

The 2025 World Championship is in full flow, with the second round now underway at Alexandra Palace.
