Dyche addresses Elliot Anderson rumours

Elliot Anderson has been linked with Man United and a return to Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche was quizzed on the rumours.

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche will leave the subject of Elliot Anderson’s future to the club hierarchy amid talk of the midfielder being valued at £100million.

Anderson joined Forest in a £35million move from Newcastle United, who sold their academy product in order to comply with PSR regulations, in July last year.

While the transfer was a painful one for Anderson and his boyhood club, it has enabled him to get regular football at Forest, having been behind the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton in the Newcastle midfield pecking order.

Anderson’s career has gone from strength to strength at Forest, with his impressive club form helping him become a regular fixture in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

But as Forest have endured a difficult start to the 2025-26 season, with Dyche their third manager of the campaign, speculation around Anderson’s future has increased.

Dyche quizzed on potential January Elliot Anderson bid

He has been linked with Manchester United and a return to Newcastle. However, Dyche could offer little insight into whether the club is anticipating a January bid for Anderson.

“It is nothing to do with me, it is the powers that be,” Dyche said ahead of Forest’s meeting with Liverpool on Saturday.

“They run the club and the financial side. I’m sure they will ask my opinion about the situation, if it is needed – not just about him but about all the players here.

“He is a good player. He has got everything in front of him. I have spoken to him about what I call the nuts and bolts of his performances.

“But I remember we had a similar thing with Jarrad Branthwaite [at Everton] and people used to talk to me about coaching him. I would say that he didn’t need it at that moment.

“Less is more for him [Anderson], I think. He is naturally going about his business the right way and is learning the game as he goes.

“You have got to be careful not to over-coach someone. I don’t think he needs that at the moment.

“We are allowing him to go and play and are just giving him some guidance and some pointers, that’s it really. I am enjoying what he is about and am enjoying his performances.”
