Amenable is poised to end a protracted period without finding the winner’s circle as he makes his first start for trainer Grahame Begg at Sandown.

The former charge of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr is slated to run in the Group 3 Chautauqua Stakes (1300m) this Saturday, marking his return to racing after an eleven-month absence.

Amenable’s most recent win occurred at Caulfield over 1400m in August 2023. This followed his debut success over 1300m at Sandown in March 2022.

The gelding demonstrated considerable aptitude under the guidance of Price and Kent Jnr, competing in prestigious Group 1 events such as the Caulfield Guineas, Australian Guineas, Memsie Stakes, Toorak Handicap, George Ryder Stakes, and Stradbroke Handicap. He also achieved a second-place finish in the All-Aged Stakes.

However, in 24 career starts, he has only secured two victories alongside six minor placings.

Amenable’s last race was an eighth-place finish at Caulfield in November, which preceded a change of stables for the current campaign.

He has participated in two jump-outs to sharpen his fitness for Saturday’s engagement, finishing third in his most recent trial on August 19 behind Oliveanotherday.

“We gave him a long spell,” Begg conveyed.

“He’s had a few issues, but he has prepped up well and he ran third in a trial at Caulfield Heath the other day which was a very good trial.

“He’s going well.”

Begg highlighted that the team has managed Amenable’s training regimen conservatively due to his age.

“We’ve not worked him as hard being an older horse, keeping him happy within himself,” Begg stated.

“He loves wet ground and I’ve kept him on the grass for galloping rather than working him on synthetics where they can jar up.

“It’s a nice kick-off being 1300 and any give in the ground won’t do his chances any harm.”

Begg also has Royal Insignia entered for Saturday’s contest, but the gelding’s final acceptance will depend on the prevailing track conditions.

Royal Insignia’s last appearance at Sandown resulted in a win in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) in January 2025. His most recent outing saw him finish second in the Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on August 1.

This sprinter also took part in a jump-out at Caulfield Heath, securing third place on August 19.

“He’s won at the track but needs good ground,” Begg remarked.

“The 1300 metres won’t worry him, but I won’t run him if it’s too wet, so he might have to wait for the Bobbie Lewis Quality (at Flemington) on Saturday week.”

He is rehabbing an ankle injury in camp and the Colts added veteran Keenan Allen, which are some of the reasons that he’s slipped to an ADP of around No. 86 overall after starting near No. 70. Now he joins a Kansas City backfield without a lot of competition, and he’s going off the board at pick No. 17 overall on average in Fantasy drafts, up three slots in recent days.

Andy Reid’s pass-first offense hasn’t been friendly to running backs, however, from a Fantasy standpoint as no Kansas City back has cleared 1,000 yards on the ground since 2017. Walker also brings some injury risk after missing at least one game in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Peter Uihlein, who has played in LIV Golf tournaments since 2023, played two rounds at a DP World Tour first-stage qualifying school event this week and was disqualified. 

Uihlein’s DQ came at Huddersfield Golf Club in Huddersfield, England. He opened with rounds of four-over 74 and three-over 73, then was booted from the event after he failed to show for his third round, Bunkered’s Josh Lees reported. 

The disqualification comes as the future of LIV Golf remains unclear. Two weeks ago, the league finished its fifth season of play, but it’s now trying to manage the loss of its primary backer, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. LIV CEO Scott O’Neil has said the league has received a signed term sheet with a lead investor, but has yet to name it, saying there’s “a very compressed timeline to get the deal done.”  

In light of the uncertainty, O’Neil also said he was confident that LIV had “a critical mass of the right players” for the future. A commitment deadline exists, though, he said, but didn’t say when that would be.  

“We have work to do,” O’Neil said. “We have things we have to accomplish. There are hurdles we have to jump over. It’s a very complex transaction we’ll have to deliver.

“But man, I wouldn’t bet against us.”

Uihlein was one of five LIV pros playing in DP World Tour first-stage qualifying school — at the Huddersfield event were Luis Masaveu and Josele Ballester, and next week at Golf-und Country Club Seddiner See in Michendorf, Germany, Michael La Sasso and Yosuke Asaji are signed up. Multiple outlets have also reported that the DP World Tour will resume fining and suspending its players who compete in LIV events; in February, eight players were given conditional releases. 

La Sasso’s entry is interesting. He won LIV’s season-ending event, and afterward, he said he wasn’t sure where he’d play next. 

“I’m honestly not sure,” he said. “I’m ready to go back home and spend some time around my family and the people I love.”

Uihlein has played in 131 DP World Tour events since turning pro in 2012, winning once, at the 2013 Madeira Islands Open, and he’s played in 128 PGA Tour events. This season with LIV, he finished 22nd in the season-points race.

It doesn’t seem like Alex Eala is bothered by the attention her rapidly rising popularity has brought and, along with it, the discussions about her. She’s locked in on making a deep run in this year’s US Open.

Although sometimes, life sends her a few reminders.

“Sometimes I forget I’m also kind of famous,” Eala told reporters Friday (Manila time), sounding a little sheepish as she recounted her experience meeting internet personality Nella Rose, who admitted she was a fan of Eala, too.

“It’s weird to think that some people I watch a lot know me, too,” she added.

Some reminders are a bit on the serious side.

There has been a lot of talk about a supposed preferential treatment handed to her by US Open organizers, who have assigned her to Louis Armstrong Stadium twice in two matches already, the second on Friday (Manila time), when she turned back Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine, 6-1, 6-4.

The Armstrong venue is the second-biggest in the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, which is located a short train ride from a Queens neighborhood in New York that is home to a strong Filipino presence. Only center court, Arthur Ashe Stadium, is bigger.

And as Eala marches on to her first weekend appearance at the year’s final Grand Slam, it is unlikely she’ll be slid down to the lower courts, given the huge demand for tickets to her matches and the way tournament organizers have dealt with the sudden disruption to the tennis economy brought about by the Filipino star’s popularity.

She was asked about that after the match, particularly because several Grand Slam winners have been playing on smaller courts in the first week of the tournament.

Eala refused to be drawn into the conversation, expressing only that she doesn’t take the experience for granted.

“I don’t make the schedules, but I’m grateful to be on Armstrong and to play on such an incredible court,” she said. “I don’t control the scheduling and my job is to be prepared for whatever court they put me in and whomever I’m against.”

Eala’s next opponent will be Iva Jovic, a close friend and part of their tennis clique of young women’s Tour standouts who love hanging out together.

“Off the court or on the court, I think the friends that I have, I really admire for what they’ve been through and what they go through,” Eala said.

Eala and her fans are headed to the weekend along with two-time champion Naomi Osaka and 2023 winner Coco Gauff.

“It means a lot for me to get to the weekend and this is my first time being in the third round here at the US Open,” the 21-year-old world No. 18 said.

Madison Keys also made it to the weekend—just barely.

Osaka recovered after a mid-match lapse to advance to the third round with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 victory over Katerina Siniakova.

Eala, the No. 17 seed, gave her passionate backers reason to cheer immediately by winning the first nine points against her Ukrainian opponent, who had won their only previous meeting.

“I think everybody represents something in their own way; I’m Filipino and I proudly represent that,” Eala said. “And a lot of the crowd here today is Filipino and I’m sure they share in that sentiment.”

Keys, the 2017 runner-up, was also on the verge of an early exit before erasing five match points and edging Anna Bondar 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (10-5).

“That was something, huh? No stress, though, we all knew I had it right?” Keys joked to the fans afterward.

Gauff, who won her first major title at Flushing Meadows three years ago, moved on by beating Paula Badosa 6-4, 7-6 (5) under the lights on Ashe in just under two hours. Badosa was playing for a third consecutive day, forced to finish her first-round match Wednesday after play was suspended Tuesday because of rain that hampered the tournament for multiple days. —WITH REPORTS FROM AP

NEW DELHI: Former India opener Kris Srikkanth believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has the potential to become one of the biggest names in world cricket, with the teenage sensation already generating an unusual level of excitement around the game.Sooryavanshi, just 15, has continued his rapid rise by making a mark in the Duleep Trophy after already setting the IPL and international stages alight. For Srikkanth, however, the youngster’s impact is going beyond numbers — he is making people tune in to cricket they might otherwise have overlooked.“He’s playing outstandingly well. He must be encouraged and never be discouraged. If he’s moulded properly, he’ll be a superstar in the making. He’ll bring Test cricket back to its glory. Everyone watched the Duleep Trophy because of him. Even my wife is watching because of him. He’ll be a big asset going forward for World cricket,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

‘He’ll be a superstar in the making’

Sooryavanshi has certainly given fans plenty to watch. After failing to make an impact in East Zone’s quarterfinal win over North East Zone, he responded emphatically against Central Zone in the semifinal.The teenager smashed 92 off 81 balls in the first innings and then contributed a crucial 40 in the final innings as East Zone secured a four-wicket victory to book their place in the final.At 15 years and 157 days, Sooryavanshi had already become the youngest batter to score a half-century in Duleep Trophy history, breaking a 57-year-old record.Srikkanth was particularly impressed by the teenager’s fearless approach in red-ball cricket and believes there is little reason to question his ability to make the jump to the highest level.“He played incredibly well. How can people even doubt whether this boy on whether he is capable of playing higher-level cricket? He can play every level of cricket, and he is going to rule world cricket shortly in all formats. He’s smashing medium pacers with no worries for straight sixes in red-ball cricket. He’s toying with the bowlers,” he said.

From IPL sensation to India star

Sooryavanshi’s rise has been extraordinary. His breakthrough IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals saw him score 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties. His 72 sixes were an IPL record for a single season, while he collected the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker and Super Sixes awards.He subsequently became India’s youngest men’s international debutant during the T20I series against England. Against Zimbabwe, he scored 151 runs in three matches to help India complete a 3-0 sweep and collected his maiden Player of the Series award.His impact has also extended to age-group cricket. Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi amassed 439 runs at the ICC Under-19 World Cup and was named Player of the Tournament.The BCCI is now taking a cautious, long-term approach to his development. Secretary Devajit Saikia said the board is monitoring the teenager closely and wants his early success to translate into a career similar to those of India’s past legends.“We want Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or any player of his stature to continue and serve like Sachin Tendulkar did for the country or other players who in the past became legends,” Saikia said.“So we look at Vaibhav in a very serious manner. He’s monitored from every angle and every step he is taking forward in his international career. The BCCI is taking a very close look at his future.”The board’s priority, Saikia stressed, is to ensure Sooryavanshi’s emergence is not merely a brief burst of teenage brilliance.“You see, the BCCI can be proud that we are promoting a player of the age of 15 years who is already making his mark in the international scenario and we are very cautious that every right step he should take forward so that it should not be a one series or one year wonder,” he said.For now, though, Srikkanth sees something even bigger taking shape — a youngster whose fearless cricket is making people sit up and watch.

Listening to Vikings GM Nolan Teasley talk about the process of building a football team involves listening to a man who is passionate about what he does.

On Wednesday, he chatted with the Minnesota media for more than twelve minutes. The opening three minutes and thirty seconds were an aside devoted toward the roster building process. In fact, the ongoing nature of that process — building a team — framed his opening discussion. He began with a comment on team building before ending on that same point.

“There’s no finish line, it never stops,” Teasley began. At the end of his opening monologue, Teasley then clarified that a pile of people have worked to help the Minnesota Vikings to build the team. He concludes, “It started a long time ago, and it’s never going to stop.”

So, now that the lede has been buried, note that Mr. Teasley wasn’t kidding. His Vikings worked out four young fellas this week.

Vikings Bring 4 Players in for a Workout

Emily Leiker of The Star Tribune sent along the update online. Consider the list of the four names:

• QB Aidan Bouman
• WR Chandler Brayboy
• DB Brandon Crossley
• WR A.J. Henning

Of those names, Bouman’s is going to leap off the page for no reason other than the reality that he’s a passer. In April, Yahoo Sports ran a piece on him, describing who he is.

From the piece: “The former Coyote is now hoping to take his game to the next level and hear his name called in the NFL draft. Bouman finished his college career with 9,278 passing yards and 68 touchdowns. The three-year Coyote captain is confident that any team that gives him a shot will be pleasantly surprised in more than just his ability on the field.”

On a very basic level, Bouman looks like a passer since he stands at 6’5″ and weighs 225 pounds. That ideal build stands alongside the biographical fact of being a southpaw.

Next most notable are the pair of receivers. As things stand, the Vikings are working with a massive cluster of receiver talent. On the roster alone, there’s Justin Jefferson (elite), Jordan Addison (very good), Jauan Jennings (very good), Tai Felton (potential), and Myles Price (potential). The practice squad then boasts three other options.

Henning is a 24-year-old receiver who stands at 5’10” and 190 pounds. Brayboy boasts a more imposing build at 6’1″ and close to 200 pounds.

Within the secondary, there’s some concern (at least in the external talk of the Vikings’ roster). The corner and safety positions are home to some good talent but many question whether there’s enough. Doing some proactive work to see what Crossley can offer helps to prepare the Vikings for a potential need in the secondary.

The 25-year-old defender has spent some time with the Patriots.

Per Over the Cap, the Minnesota Vikings have less than $10 million in open room. Not a ton, but that’s enough to do business.

Some Fantasy players are bullish on his upside since he’s not sharing a backfield with Jahmyr Gibbs, but he’s still expected to split snaps with Woody Marks, who had more than 900 yards from scrimmage as a rookie. 

The latest ADP data shows Montgomery going off the board around pick No. 52. Cook is going off the board with an ADP around No. 9 overall and is the fifth running back being taken on average.
