Is Jacob Elordi The New James Bond? 20 Actors Rumoured To Play 007

It’s now been almost five years since Daniel Craig’s departure from the James Bond franchise in No Time To Die – and somehow there’s still been no confirmation of who will be succeeding him as 007.

Over the last year, there have been some behind-the-scenes developments for the James Bond franchise, with a new creative team taking control and an Oscar-nominated filmmaker having now been chosen to direct the next instalment.

However, if reports are to be believed, the race to cast the new Bond is really starting to heat up.

For some time, it looked like the role was Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s for the taking, but since then, Callum Turner has been rumoured to be the hot contender for the role.

Meanwhile, off the back of Wuthering Heights’ box office success, it now looks like a certain Australian star may also be a hot favourite for the job.

As we dive into the latest 007 speculation, here are 20 stars who’ve all been rumoured for the job…

Who is he? The Australian actor has been a star on the rise ever since his break-out role in the teen drama Euphoria.

Following acclaim in films like Saltburn, Priscilla and The Narrow Road To The Deep North, Jacob landed his first Oscar nomination in 2026 for his performance as the creature in Frankenstein, the same year he also got everyone talking thanks to his work as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights.

Where did the rumour come from? Jacob’s name was first mentioned as a serious contender to play James Bond in the summer of 2025, when Variety suggested he was at the top of producers’ wishlists.

Following this, World Of Reel claimed he’d met with director Denis Villeneuve, with the gossip site DeuxMoi suggesting shortly after Wuthering Heights’ release that he’d been offered the role of James Bond.

What’s he said? He previously told Extra of calls for him to play James Bond: “That’s beautiful… I just like that people maybe want to put me in their movies. That makes me really glad.”

Who is he? Callum Turner has been putting in the work for more than a decade now, but he’s enjoyed a real breakthrough in the last few years.

Some of his most recent projects include the Fantastic Beasts movies, in which he played Theseus Scamander, the sports drama The Boys In The Boat and the star-studded Apple TV+ series Masters Of The Air.

He’s also been making headlines for several years now thanks to his relationship with his famous fiancée, pop superstar Dua Lipa, who has also been repeatedly linked with the Bond franchise as she’s been rumoured to be recording the next film’s accompanying theme song.

Where did the rumour come from? In December 2025, several news outlets spotted that betting odds had been suddenly slashed on Callum being cast as James Bond.

Since then, Callum’s name was mentioned in an article published by the Mail, suggesting he’d been “blabbing all over town” that he’d landed the coveted spy role.

What has he said? Despite the Mail’s reports about Callum’s loose-lipped approach to his Bond casting, he hasn’t said anything publicly yet.

Meanwhile, during an appearance at the Berlinale film festival in February 2026, Callum was definitely in no mood to discuss the rumours, giving a rather curt answer when asked about the speculation at a press conference.

Who is he? Until recently, Aaron has been widely considered as the frontrunner for the role of James for more than a year now. His past credits include the superhero comedy Kick-Ass, the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.

Since then, he’s appeared in projects as varied as Marvel’s Kraven The Hunter, the arthouse horror flick Nosferatu and Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later.

Where did the rumour come from? In November 2022, Aaron supposedly met with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli (who has since left the franchise), with follow-up reports claiming the meeting “went well”.

More recently, in 2024, tabloid reports went as far as saying he’d been cast in the role, though this was walked back mere days later. However, the rumour mill has been in overdrive once again in recent history thanks to a series of clues pointing to Aaron playing 007.

What has he said? Nothing concrete just yet – but his skittishness when it comes to whether or not he’s playing James Bond has to count for something, right?

Who is he? The James Bond rumour that’s being going around the longest time involved Idris Elba, whose acting credits include the Thor films, Beasts of No Nation, the Fast & Furious series and the BBC detective drama Luther.

Where did the rumour come from? Idris has been rumoured to be in the running to play 007 for more than a decade (since the speculation began in 2014, there’ve been three new films in the series released), with leaked emails from Sony executives suggesting he was a favourite for the part. Following this, then-Bond boss Barbara Broccoli said Idris has been “part of the conversation” about who the role goes to next.

However, in August 2022 it was reported that Idris had made the decision to take himself out of the running – and in the last few years his casting has seemed less and less likely… although we’d kind of love it if he got the opportunity to play Bond at least once, given just how long he was associated with the franchise.

What has he said? James Bond is a hugely coveted, iconic, beloved character that takes audiences on this massive escapism journey. Of course, if someone said to me, ‘Do you want to play James Bond?,’ I’d be like, ‘Yeah!’. That’s fascinating to me.”

Who is he? A more recent addition to the list of rumoured potential 007s is another Aaron, this time fellow Brit Aaron Pierre.

As well as voicing the title character in Disney’s Mufasa, Aaron appeared in The Underground Railroad, played Malcolm X in the anthology series Genius and starred opposite Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal in the sci-fi dystopian drama Foe.

Where did the rumour come from? The news appears to come from movie “insider” Daniel Richtman, who claimed in June 2025 that Aaron is “being considered” for the part.

What has he said? He told Chris Evans on Virgin Radio: “If that opportunity ever presented itself, that would be insane.”

Who is he? After getting his start in indies like Beach Rats and Triangle Of Sadness, British star Harris Dickinson’s profile has had a real boom in the last few years off the back of roles in Babygirl, The Iron Claw and A Murder At The End Of The World.

He’ll next be seen in action as John Lennon in Sam Mendes’ ambitious Beatles movie project – which, to be fair, means he may have too much on his plate to take on 007 too.

Where did the rumour come from? Variety’s piece on Amazon’s supposed “James Bond wishlist” in the summer 2025 that mentioned Jacob Elordi as a contender also included Harris (as well as Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland).

What’s he said? Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harris insisted that “of course” James Bond is a role he’d be interested in.

“The role of James Bond is interesting,” he said. “The circumstances of Bond are interesting. The character, the world, what he goes through, that’s interesting.”

He also praised director Denis Villeneuve, who will helm the upcoming 25th James Bond film.

Who is he? He’s Tom Hardy! You may have seen him in films including Max Max: Fury Road, Dunkirk, Legend, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception or Venom.

Where did the rumour come from? Like Idris Elba, speculation about Tom Hardy playing 007 goes way back.

Things hotted up in 2020, though, when the film blog The Vulcan Reporter claimed he’d done several auditions for the part and was “basically locked into the role”.

What has he said? You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone.”

Jeff Spicer via Getty Images

Who is he? Probably best known for his role as Loki in the Marvel universe, Tom also won a Golden Globe for his performance in the drama The Night Manager.

Where did the rumour come from? Around the time The Night Manager was airing, many viewers pointed out that the British actor might be a good James Bond, and he was soon spotted having a meeting with the franchise’s chief Barbara Broccoli.

Unfortunately, this was also around the time of those infamous “I Heart TS” paparazzi shots, with rumours suggesting the ensuing media coverage (and his widely-panned Golden Globes speech) may have cost him the role of the man with the golden gun.

What has he said? “What can I say that you don’t already know? It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not?

“Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions.”

Samir Hussein via Getty Images

Who is he? After rising to fame in Game Of Thrones, the Scottish actor later won a Golden Globe for his leading role in Bodyguard.

Where did the rumour come from? The action-packed Bodyguard led to Richard being tipped to succeed Daniel Craig as Bond, with the Daily Mail reporting at the time that the drama had caught the eye of former 007 boss Barbara Broccoli.

Bodyguard’s producers even teased that a potential second series of the drama would depend on “what happens with James Bond”.

What has he said? “I’m more than flattered to be mentioned, for people to consider putting me in that role. I’m very flattered and thankful. It’s a really brilliant thing to be in.

“I don’t want to curse anything by saying anything. I think that’s the curse of that. If you talk about it, you’ll curse it.”

NEIL HALL/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock

Who is he? James is perhaps best known for his TV roles, which have included Happy Valley, Grantchester, McMafia and The Trial Of Christine Keeler, though you may have also seen him in action in the recent big-screen adaptation of Little Women.

Where did the rumour come from? While many of the actors named as potential replacements for Daniel Craig are based on anonymous “insiders” and source quotes, the rumours about James seem to stem primarily from bookies’ odds.

However, he did spark something of a frenzy in his 2025 drama Playing Nice, when his character was the only person not wearing a tuxedo at a black-tie event, which some felt may have been due to a Bond contractual agreement.

What has he said? “It’s so weird and bemusing. But yet again, it’s based on pure speculation and it makes for a good little clickbait moment in the media. Other than that, it’s just fun and bemusing.”

Who is he? Jack Lowden has had a massive few years, scoring Bafta, Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his work in Slow Horses and appearing with Nicole Kidman in the breezy Netflix mystery The Perfect Couple.

Where did the rumour come from? This is another story that’s based on bookies’ odds, with Jack’s name soaring towards the top of the list when Amazon acquired creative control of the spy franchise.

What’s he said? Nothing yet – although his wife Saoirse Ronan seems keen on him taking over as 007.

TOLGA AKMEN via Getty Images

Who is he? The British star of films like Crazy, Rich Asians; A Simple Favour and the Guy Ritchie action film The Gentlemen.

Where did the rumour come from? After Daniel Craig’s exit from the James Bond franchise was confirmed, fans began campaigning for Henry to take over the iconic spy role.

What has he said? [The speculation] definitely [came] from Crazy Rich Asians, maybe the white suit coming out of the park. [And] because I’m Asian and everybody’s fighting for a diverse Bond – sorry, white guys.

“I don’t know. It’s an honour to even be in the conversation. It’s one of the greatest film roles ever, you’d be stupid to be like, ‘I don’t want to do that.’

“Isn’t it great that people are like, ’OK, now’s the time, why the hell can’t we have a black Bond, an Asian Bond, a mixed-race Bond, a non-distinct Bond?”

Jeff Spicer via Getty Images

Who is he? After appearing in Sunshine On Leith and Pride, George landed his biggest role to date when he took the lead in the Bafta-winning 1917, and he’s since appeared in Femme and The End.

Where did the rumour come from? According to a 2021 report in Page Six, Bond producers were hoping to reboot the franchise after No Time To Die, making the Bond character younger, which is where the idea to have George play a rather different 007 was reportedly born.

What has he said? “You’ve got to consider it for sure. I mean, it’s an amazing thing, but it would also be a massive thing. I don’t know if that’s a reality, but if it ever became one, of course, it would be a consideration. But be a careful one.”

David M. Benett via Getty Images

Who is he? Regé-Jean became an overnight sensation in 2020 thanks to his role as the main love interest in the Netflix period drama Bridgerton.

Where did the rumour come from? Fans immediately began suggesting Regé-Jean as a potential Bond, and when he announced he wasn’t returning for the second season of Bridgerton, the rumour mill hotted up even further.

What has he said? “Ah, the B word. I think if you are British and do anything of note, that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.

“That’s fairly normal and I’m flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed.”

Who is he? Charlie’s biggest acting credits include Green Street, Queer As Folk, Sons Of Anarchy and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. In 2025, he caused a stir when he was cast as Ed Gein in the third season of Ryan Murphy’s Monster.

He was also famously cast in the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades Of Grey franchise, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, and was replaced by Jamie Dornan.

Where did the rumour come from? Charlie’s name being linked with playing James Bond largely stems from his devoted fanbase, as well as bookies’ odds.

What has he said? I would be so flattered and honoured to be considered to play James Bond as an Englishman. But my intuition tells me that I shouldn’t be waiting for that phone call to come. I think there are many people ahead of me on that list.

“It’s very flattering sort of fan dialogue. Nobody’s ever, on a professional level from within the industry, brought that up to me.

“As much as people want to talk about me playing James Bond – please continue. Maybe that’s the genesis of these things. Maybe fan chatter leads to industry people actually talking about it in a more serious way.”

CHRIS DELMAS via Getty Images

Who is he? Sam is best known for playing one of the lead roles in the historical drama Outlander.

Where did the rumour come from? Sam has actually been on Bond producers’ radars for a while, having previously auditioned to succeed Pierce Brosnan in Casino Royale, which would eventually become Daniel Craig’s first outing in the role.

What has he said? I don’t know if there is a conversation being had apart from in the media, but I think it’s an incredible franchise and a great character, so of course I would jump at it.”

Matthias Nareyek via Getty Images

Who is he? Henry is famous for playing Superman in the superhero’s most recent big-screen offerings, and also has the lead role in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher.

Where did the rumour come from? After taking on an action role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., many viewers suggested he’d be a fitting replacement for Daniel Craig, with rumours suggesting his name had been raised among producers as a hot favourite.

Like Sam Heughan, Henry also auditioned for Casino Royale, back when he was just 21 years old.

What has he said? I would absolutely jump at the opportunity. At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”

AFP Contributor via Getty Images

Who is he? The chart-topping singer made a name for himself as a member of One Direction, before making a name for himself as a Grammy-winning solo artist.

In addition to his music career, Harry also had a short-lived career as an actor, first appearing in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk before getting mixed-at-best reviews for his work in Eternals, Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman.

Where did the rumour come from? This might sound like the work of over-excited Directioners, but in 2021, The Sun reported that Bond producers were hoping to take the character in a “new age” direction, and tipped Harry for the role.

What has he said? Harry’s reps said the rumours were “not even remotely true”. Too bad, tbh.

Who is he? Ted Lasso fans will recognise Phil from his Emmy-nominated performance as Jamie Tartt.

Where did the rumour come from? Interestingly, unlike most of the names on this list, this rumour comes straight from the horse’s mouth, with Phil confirming that a “conversation” was had about him playing Bond – albeit a short one.

What’s he said? “There was a conversation one of my agents had but they quite firmly shut the door in their face.”

David M. Benett via Getty Images

Who is he? Another addition to the list of rumoured James Bond stars, Lucien Laviscount’s past credits include Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens and Emily In Paris.

Where did the rumour come from? The Daily Mail first reported in December 2022 that Lucien had caught the eye of James Bond producers, with an unnamed source claiming he “ticks all of the boxes” as a “super talented” and “extremely handsome” young actor.

However, it appears there’s one drawback.

According to the Mail, Lucien’s reality TV past (after leaving Waterloo Road, he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, and was involved in a brief showmance with a certain Ms Katona) has put off some execs behind the scenes.

What has he said? Again, he’s yet to address the rumours directly, so make of that what you will.

Has a member of the Royal Family ever been arrested after Andrew taken into custody?

Published

on

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office at his Wood Farm home in Wolferton this morning

Arrests within the Royal Family are exceptionally rare and usually attract intense public and media attention. Over the centuries, royals have faced everything from minor offences to serious legal challenges, with outcomes ranging from fines to imprisonment.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office this morning (February 19), Thames Valley Police confirmed. Officers arrived at his temporary residence, Wood Farm, in the village of Wolferton, at 8am on Thursday, February 19, the same day the former prince celebrated his 66th birthday.

Police reportedly used both the front and back entrances of the five-bedroom farmhouse, with one plain-clothed officer seen carrying a laptop. Thames Valley Police are investigating claims linked to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) confirmed it is supporting UK police forces to “enable a full and independent assessment of the information released.” The allegations under review include claims that a woman was trafficked to the UK to meet Andrew, and that he may have shared sensitive information with Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

This moment represents an unprecedented instance in modern British history of a titled royal being formally arrested by police on suspicion of a criminal offence. Until now, encounters between the modern Royal Family and the law have been far less serious, usually limited to traffic offences or incidents involving pets. One of the most notable cases involved Princess Anne.

In November 2002, the Princess Royal became the first senior royal to receive a criminal record when she appeared at Slough Magistrates’ Court over her English bull terrier, Dotty, which had attacked two children in Windsor Great Park. Anne was fined £500, ordered to pay compensation, and required to send her dog for behavioural training to avoid it being put down.

Princess Anne’s legal issues were not limited to Dotty.

She has a long history of speeding offences, including a 2001 fine of £400 and five penalty points for driving 93mph in a 70mph zone in Gloucestershire.

She had also faced fines in 1977 and a one-month driving ban in 1990.

The need for speed appears to run in the family. Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, was banned from driving for six months in 2020 after accumulating too many points on her licence.

The Olympic equestrian was caught driving 91mph in a 70mph zone near her Cotswolds home.

The additional points pushed her over the strict 12-point limit, resulting in a £666 fine.

For royal arrests with more serious consequences, one must look back centuries.

King Charles I was arrested and tried for treason, ultimately executed in 1649 following the English Civil War.

Anne Boleyn, King Henry VIII’s second wife, was arrested, imprisoned in the Tower of London, and executed for treason and adultery in 1536.

Mary, Queen of Scots, spent 19 years in captivity before her execution in 1587.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest is the first in recent memory to involve allegations far beyond minor offences.

Police and the NCA are continuing their investigations into potential links with Epstein, reviewing evidence to ensure a thorough and independent assessment.

Thames Valley Police said it is taking the claims seriously, with work ongoing to establish the full context of the allegations.

Thames Valley police confirmed in a statement that “a man in his sixties from Norfolk” was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Now, Buckingham Palace has released a statement on behalf of King Charles.

Andrew arrested over ‘misconduct in public office’

Andrew is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Searches are being carried out at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk, Thames Valley Police said.

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright added: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.

“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.

“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

Pictures appear to show unmarked police cars at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, with plain-clothed officers appearing to gather outside Andrew’s home.

Thames Valley Police previously said the force is reviewing allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Jeffrey Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew, and claims he shared sensitive information with the paedophile while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

Andrew, who marks his 66th birthday today (February 19), has denied any wrongdoing.

Officer tells Noah Donohoe inquest he watched CCTV of naked youth running toward wasteland

Counsel for Fiona Donohoe, Brenda Campbell KC, questioned the officer on why he had no handwritten notes of the incident

A police constable has told the Noah Donohoe inquest that he viewed CCTV footage of a naked youth jumping off his bike and running towards wasteland.

Constable Morrow told a court that he had attended Northwood Road in north Belfast on the night after Noah disappeared in June 2020.

The inquest at Belfast Coroner’s Court into the death of the schoolboy, which is being heard with a jury, is now in its fourth week.

FOLLOW LIVE UPDATES FROM THE NOAH DONOHOE INQUEST HERE

Noah, a pupil at St Malachy’s College, was 14 when his naked body was found in a storm drain tunnel in north Belfast, six days after leaving home on his bike to meet two friends in the Cavehill area of the city.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was drowning.

The officer said he was on duty at 11pm on June 22 when he was sent to Northwood Road to make CCTV inquiries. Mr Morrow said he was approached by a resident who said he had footage on his mobile phone from his domestic CCTV.

The constable watched the footage, which he said showed a male cycling up Northwood Road shortly after 6pm on the previous evening.

He said: “The male appeared to be younger from his stature. However, at no point did I see the male’s face to confirm age.

“I observed that the male had no clothes on and jumped off his bike and ran between houses and the direction of wasteland behind the street.”

Mr Morrow added that he was informed by the resident the footage was around three minutes slow.

He told the court he could not seize the footage at the time as the resident did not know how to download it.

Counsel for Fiona Donohoe, Brenda Campbell KC, questioned the officer on why he had no handwritten notes of the incident.

She also asked him why he did not immediately do a timecheck on the footage.

The officer said he took the resident at his word that the footage was three minutes slow. The officer said he had no further involvement in the inquiries.

World shares are mixed following a Nvidia-led rally on Wall St

World shares are mixed following a Nvidia-led rally on Wall St

European shares opened lower and Asian shares were mostly higher Thursday after a rally on Wall Street that was led by computer chip giant Nvidia.

Oil prices rose as media reports said the likelihood was rising of U.S. conflict with Iran.

President Donald Trump has been weighing whether to take military action against Iran as his administration surges military resources to the region while holding indirect talks with Tehran over its nuclear program. That is raising concerns that any attack could spiral into a larger conflict in the Middle East.

U.S. benchmark crude oil gained 94 cents to $65.99 per barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, picked up 98 cents to $71.33.

Germany’s DAX lost 0.5% to 25,157.56, while the CAC 40 in Paris slipped 0.6% to 8,379.90.

Britain’s FTSE 100 gave up 0.4% to 10,647.82.

The future for the S&P 500 was up 0.1% while that for the Dow Jones Industrial Average was virtually unchanged.

Markets in Greater China were closed for Lunar New Year holidays, while some others in the region reopened for trading.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.6% to 57,467.83, while in South Korea, the Kospi jumped 3.1% to 5,677.25 as markets reopened following holidays earlier in the week. Samsung Electronics, the market’s biggest heavyweight, gained 4.9%.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.9% to 9,086.20.

Southeast Asian markets surged, with Thailand’s SET up 1.7%. India’s Sensex shed early gains to fall 1.1%.

On Wednesday, the S&P 500 rose 0.6% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.3%. The Nasdaq composite gained 0.8%.

Nvidia helped lift the market and climbed 1.6% after Meta Platforms announced a long-term partnership where it will use millions of chips and other equipment from Nvidia for its artificial-intelligence data centers.

“No one deploys AI at Meta’s scale,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said. Because his company is the most valuable on Wall Street, Nvidia’s stock was the single most powerful force pulling the S&P 500 higher.

That performance demonstrated the upside of AI development for the U.S. stock market. But investors have also focused on the potential downsides recently, which has led to sharp swings in share prices.

Meta’s stock fell as much as 1.7% before recovering and rising 0.6%.

Another worry is that if AI succeeds in creating tools to do complicated tasks more cheaply, it may undercut companies in industries as far flung as software, legal services and trucking logistics. Investors have suddenly and aggressively sold stocks of companies seen as under threat in what analysts have likened to a “shoot first-ask questions later” mentality.

Several profit reports from companies helped to lift stocks Wednesday. They continued what’s been a strong reporting season for the big U.S. companies in the S&P 500.

Outside of earnings reports, Moderna jumped 6.1% after saying regulators at the Food and Drug Administration will review its flu vaccine candidate after earlier refusing to consider it.

Reports on the economy were better than expected, with one saying industrial production improved last month. Another said orders for computers, fabricated metal products and other long-lasting manufactured goods rose more in December than economists had forecast, when not including airplanes and other transportation equipment. A third report said homebuilders broke ground on more new homes in December than anticipated.

Such strong data could encourage the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates steady.

The Fed has put its cuts to interest rates on hold, but many on Wall Street expect it to resume later this year. The widespread forecast is that will come during the summer, after a new chair is scheduled to step in atop the Fed.

Minutes released Wednesday from the Fed’s last meeting showed many officials want to see inflation fall further before they would support additional interest rate cuts this year.

Lower rates can give a boost to the economy and prices for investments, but that comes at the cost of potentially worsening inflation.

In other dealings early Thursday, the dollar bought 154.80 Japanese yen, down from 154.83 yen. The euro rose to $1.1800 from $1.1782.

The price of gold gained 0.6% while that for silver was up 2.1%.

The price of bitcoin rose 1% to $66,900.

“Along the way, the crew encountered multiple challenges, including a coup in the Comoros, being shot at in Rwanda and threats from Saddam Hussein’s army in Iraq.”

Secret Garden

After the success of Wild Isles and Wild London, Secret Garden sees Sir David exploring wildlife a little closer to home than some of his most popular past docs.

“From pine martens in the Western Highlands to dormice in South Wales, swallows in the Lake District to otters in Oxfordshire and blue tits in Bristol, the series reveals not just a rich and surprising diversity of life but also how each species finds its own way to live alongside us,” the BBC teases in a press release.

“Through meeting the gardeners that have created these wild oases, we discover how our nation of animal lovers and gardeners can do their bit to save struggling species. Eighty per cent of Britons have access to a garden, and together they cover an area greater than all of our national nature reserves combined – so what we do in our own backyards has an impact not only on the animals that live there, but also on whole populations.”

“You’ll never look at your garden in the same way again,” they add.

David Attenborough’s 100 Years On Planet Earth

This special broadcast will air on BBC One on Friday 8 May, which happens to be Sir David’s 100th birthday.

“Held on his birthday at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the event will take audiences on a journey through a century of exploration and discovery in the natural world, seen through the prism of David’s extraordinary life,” the BBC says.

“It will feature dramatic wildlife stories, accompanied by live music from his programmes, alongside spoken reflections from public figures and leading advocates for the natural world.

“Accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, it will feature original compositions from some of David’s best-known landmark series. Alongside the music, guests will include some of those he has collaborated with from the world of conservation and wildlife filmmaking.”

What has Sir David Attenborough said about turning 100?

Almost a decade ago, Sir David told the Daily Mail he saw no reason “whatsoever” that he shouldn’t be celebrating his 100th birthday in 2026.

He also pledged in the same interview that he’d continue broadcasting as long as he’s still “producing commentary” that has “freshness” and a “point” to it.

UK police arrest Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for misconduct in public office

LONDON (AP) — U.K. police arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Thames Valley Police, an agency that covers areas west of London, including Mountbatten-Windsor’s former home, said it was “assessing” reports that the former Prince Andrew sent trade reports to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2010.

The assessment followed the release of millions of pages of documents connected to a U.S. investigation of Epstein. Mountbatten-Windsor features a number of times in the documents.

The police force did not name Mountbatten-Windsor, as is normal under U.K. law. But when asked if he had been arrested, the force pointed to a statement saying that they had arrested a man in his 60s. Mountbatten-Windsor is 66.

“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,’’ the statement said. “We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in his relationship with Epstein. Last fall, King Charles III stripped Andrew of his royal titles, including the right to be called a prince, as he tried to insulate the monarchy from the continuing revelations about his younger brother’s relationship with Epstein. Those revelations have tarnished the royal family for more than a decade.

Images circulated online appeared to show unmarked police cars at Mountbatten-Windsor’s home, Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, with plainclothes officers appearing to gather outside.

King Charles could face abdication pressure after Andrew Mountbatten Windsor arrest

It comes after disgraced Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office this morning

Royal biographer and historian Andrew Lownie has warned that King Charles III could come under serious pressure to abdicate if further damaging information emerges in the investigation involving the former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. The disgraced former royal was arrested this morning (February 19) on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police has confirmed.

Speaking on TalkTV this week, Lownie told host Mark Dolan that the King must take a “very clear” and decisive approach as scrutiny surrounding the issue continues. During the live broadcast, Lownie stressed that the monarch has a responsibility to ensure full cooperation with any police inquiries.

He said: “I do think that King Charles needs to be very clear that he will cooperate and allow his staff to give statements to the police and provide all the internal correspondence, all the complaints that were made about Andrew, all the material the police need to mount a proper investigation.”

Lownie’s comments came as Dolan pressed him on the potential consequences for the monarchy if further evidence were to surface, the Express reports. The presenter asked: “If Andrew is not prosecuted but further evidence of a royal cover-up at the palace emerged, what is the threat to the monarchy under those circumstances?”

In response Lownie suggested the situation could quickly escalate into a constitutional crisis. He replied: “Well I think it’s very serious. I think then people will be calling for a clean sweep.”

He went on to draw a distinction between senior royals, adding: “I don’t think William is in any way implicated in this scandal and I think there will be growing calls for the King to step down.”

The royal biographer’s comments suggest that while the Prince of Wales could remain insulated from the controversy, the monarch himself may face increasing pressure if the situation escalates. And now with Andrew having been arrested all eye will be on the King.

Viewers were divided in the comment section, with the debate continuing to rage in the comments section as people voice their different opinions on the issue.

One user warned that any suggestion of wrongdoing could have far-reaching consequences, writing: “A cover up will see growing calls for the abolition of monarchy. William was involved in the cover up. Are royal fans now going to demand that George is put on the throne?”

“Didn’t this happen when KC was the Prince of Wales and the monarchy was under QEII? Why should Charles take the blame?” another questioned.

While others argued that calls for abdication were unrealistic. One comment read: “There is no cover up. Leave the dutiful innocent king along. Vultures.”

While another else added: “The King will be the King until he stops breathing. William would want that and it’s not like this forever.”

Former Bay Horse in Fulford re-opens tomorrow as a Starbucks

The global giant will be openings the doors of the new café at 6am in the former Bay Horse in Main Street, Fulford.

The opening follows a development company Manchester-based Arborfield Estates winning a planning appeal against City of York Council in August 2024.

The pub was closed in early 2023 by its former owners, the Red Cat Company, after reporting a period of ‘poor trading.’

Fulford Parish Council, York CAMRA and others opposed the change of use for three flats and a coffee shop.

However, the planning inspector ruled there was no realistic prospect of a pub reopening in the 200 year-old building.

Furthermore, there were also two pubs nearby, The Plough and The Saddle Inn, which also offered dining services and outdoor seating as the Bay Horse had.

The inspector added there were no coffee shops in the immediate area and the plans would see the ground floor of the empty building put back into use for the public.

A Starbucks spokesperson told the Press: “We’re so excited to bring the Starbucks experience to Fulford and create 13 new jobs.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the local community from Friday 20th February, with the first 100 customers getting a free reusable cup which they can use to get 25p off future beverage purchases.

“The store will also be partnering with York Mind through fundraising and in-store events, including cutting the ribbon on opening day at 10am and taking donations”

The Bay Horse location in Fulford is not the only pub in the area used as a Starbucks.
