The Scots actor was seen posing for snaps at the festive bash in Maryhill on Sunday
A major Hollywood star made a surprise appearance at a Scots charity’s Christmas party over the weekend. Star Wars icon Ewan McGregor, who originally hails from Perth, was spotted at G20 Youth Project’s annual festive bash in Glasgow’s Maryhill.
The 54-year-old star was seen beaming as he posed for snaps with families on Sunday (December 21). Pictured in a G20 beanie hat, the actor was seen holding up a peace sign for the camera.
He later traded in his hat for a Grinch head bopper as he mingled with the gobsmacked guests in attendance at the event. Ewan was also joined by Still Game stars Gavin Mitchell and Sanjeev Kohli at the bash, as well as BBC radio star Tam Cowan and Taggart actor Colin McCredie.
Fellow actors Dougary Scott, Ray Winstone and Two Doors Down’s Jonathan Watson also sent in video messages wishing guests a Merry Christmas. The celebrities helped out by serving Christmas dinner to attendees. And there was also some festive music on the go, thanks to radio presenter George Bowie.
The charity shared the snaps on social media, hailing the evening as an “absolute belter”. The caption read: “Absolute belter of an evening with our community thanks to the wonderful, big hearted Guy Cowan who cooked a delicious meal and rounded up support for our project.
“What a surprise to be joined by Ewan McGregor, Tam Cowan, Colin McCredie, Gavin Mitchell and Sanjeev Kohli. Memories that will last forever.” Punters flocked to the comments following the festive bash to praise the stars at the event.
One person wrote: “Absolutely brilliant a stellar cast of great Scottish talent celebrating the Maryhill community the G20 project.
“Merry Christmas to you all and a happy and prosperous and peaceful new year 2026.”
Another chimed in: “Was such a fab day for G20 kids and adults. So glad I could be part of it this year again. Well done to everyone.”
A third remarked: “This is absolutely brilliant!”
Actor Colin McCredie commented: “A pleasure to help out and meet everyone!”
While Gavin Mitchell said: “Great night, great fun ! Absolute pleasure. Merry Christmas everyone!”
Recent reports state that Ewan McGregor has revealed that he’s considered giving up acting as he can’t bear to be separated from his American wife.
At the Scottish Bafta awards, he told the star-studded audience about how he has thought about giving up his profession to be with his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who he married in 2022.
Ewan and Mary, who is 13 years younger, first met on the set of TV series Fargo in 2017.
McGregor first made a name for himself in the 1990s with films such as Brassed Off, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting, which premiered in 1996.
He has since taken on the iconic role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, reprising the role for the Disney+ original series in 2022, as well as featuring in films like Moulin Rouge! in 2001 and T2: Trainspotting in 2017.
