‘Done Deal’ – Man Utd Star Joshua Zirkzee Agrees to Join Roma in January
Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly reached an agreement to join Roma on loan in January, according to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Dutch forward is said to be nearing a return to Italy next month, with clubs in the final stages of negotiations over a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy next summer under certain conditions.
Zirkzee has struggled for regular minutes at Old Trafford this season, making just three Premier League starts and scoring once under Ruben Amorim.
The Dutch forward spent two seasons at Serie A side Bologna before joining United in July 2024, scoring 13 goals in 57 Serie A appearances.
Joshua Zirkzee Agrees Roma Loan Move
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Zirkzee’s move to Roma in January is now a ‘done deal’, with only the final stages of negotiations between clubs remaining.
Roma reportedly view the Dutchman as a direct replacement for Evan Ferguson, whose loan deal from Brighton could be terminated next month.
Ferguson has scored just once in 12 Serie A appearances since joining and has been publicly criticised by head coach Gian Piero Gasperini over his disappointing displays.
Zirkzee has fared no better at Man United this season, netting just once in 11 appearances across all competitions, in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last month.
The £130,000-per-week forward has found the back of the net just eight times since joining the Old Trafford side 18 months ago, with only four goals in 42 Premier League games.
Man Utd Among Semenyo Front-Runners
Man United are looking to potentially replace Zirkzee with another forward in January and have set their sights on landing Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, the Old Trafford side are among the front-runners to land the Ghanaian international next month, alongside arch-rivals Manchester City.
Semenyo is available to leave Bournemouth via a £65m release clause in January, active for the first part of the month.
The 25-year-old winger has been one of the Premier League’s best players this term, netting eight times and providing three assists in 16 appearances.
Amorim’s Attacking Options Depleted
United’s interest in Semenyo is no surprise given their depleted options in attack at the moment, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Red Devils have also lost captain Bruno Fernandes to a worrying injury last weekend, while summer signing Benjamin Sesko only recently returned from a setback.
