Santa is almost here, and you know what that means. Soon, you will be waking up to presents under the tree and a full stocking. Santa Claus is a busy man as he has to visit all the kids in one night.

Thankfully, his magic sleigh and reindeer will help him get there. But did you know you can track Santa’s progress as he journeys around the world on his sleigh?

Santa usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west. In the past, Santa visits the South Pacific first, then New Zealand and Australia.

After that, he goes to Japan, Asia, across to Africa, then onto Western Europe, Canada, America, Mexico and Central and South America. His route is planned out with the help of Santa’s Elf Launch Staff.

How to track Santa Claus

So how can you follow Santa? You can follow Santa through the Official NORAD Tracks Santa here. NORAD means North American Aerospace Defence Command.

The NORAD makes sure that Santa is on track to deliver all the presents. In fact, did you know that NORAD’s predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), began tracking Santa in 1955?

When will Santa come to my home?

We don’t know when Santa will get to you because he can only come when you are asleep. If you are awake, Santa cannot deliver your gifts.

Usually, Father Christmas arrives after 9pm on Christmas Eve. However, the longer you are awake, the longer it will take for him to come. If he arrives at your house and you are awake, he will have to leave and come back later.

How does Santa get to all the children in one night?

The Santa tracking experts say: “NORAD intelligence reports indicate that Santa does not experience time the way we do.

“His trip seems to take 24 hours to us, but to Santa it might last days, weeks or even months. Santa would not want to rush the important job of delivering presents to children and spreading joy to everyone, so the only logical conclusion is that Santa somehow functions within his own time-space continuum.”

Remember to get to sleep early so Santa can deliver your presents. Leave out a mince pie and a glass of milk to help him on a busy night.

You should also leave a few carrots for his reindeer. His reindeer are called Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder, and Blixem.
