The 18-year-old sadly died after jumping from a viaduct

A student sent heartbreaking messages on social media saying he was ‘so sorry’ just moments before he jumped to his death from a viaduct.

Mohammed Fahad, who had just turned 18, sent messages to a female in the United States while on the Lockwood viaduct in Huddersfield on August 31 this year. He told her: “I’m already on the bridge. I’m going to do it now. I’m so sorry.”

He then said in the messages that he had ‘already gone too far from home’ and said ‘leave me alone’, Yorkshire Live reports. His friend replied: “Don’t jump – I’m begging you. I’ll be sad and lonely.”

Tragically, Mohammed fell to his death from the viaduct. The student, who lived with his parents, had also used his mobile phone to contact police telling them he was on the train tracks and that he had depression, an inquest into his death heard.

Sadly he was found beneath the bridge a short time later and was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple injuries. Police and paramedics attended the scene after being alerted by a member of the public.

An investigation by police into his death involved an examination of Mohammed’s phone, his internet searches and conversations. Police concluded that there was no third party involvement in his death.

On the day of his death, Mohammed had been searching the internet for information relating to the ‘right to die’ and ‘assisted suicide’ as well as looking at Lockwood viaduct on Google maps. Assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst said his phone had been examined and what was found was ‘deemed inconclusive’ by police.

The inquest heard that Mohammed had a history of low mood, poor sleep, anxiety, and he had reported suicidal thoughts. He also had a history of self-harming.

He had visited his GP and had been referred to mental health services but did not use the service, the hearing was told. Ms Brocklehurst concluded that Mohammed came about his death due to an act of suicide.
