The information, including personal data and council tax information, was sent out by mistake.
A council has apologised after disabled people’s data was leaked by mistake. Disabled residents in Huntingdonshire had their data, including council tax information, mistakenly sent to someone else.
Huntingdonshire District Council has apologised for the error, reassuring residents the error has been rectified. A council spokesperson said: “We take the protection of personal data extremely seriously, and we acted immediately when we discovered this error.
“As soon as the mistake was identified, the recipient was contacted within an hour and provided assurance that the file had been deleted. In addition, the council took precautionary steps to mitigate any potential risk.“
They continued: “The incident was assessed by our Information Governance Team and Senior Information Risk Owner and reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We understand the concerns this may raise, particularly for vulnerable residents.
“We want to reassure the public that there is no evidence at this stage of wider misuse of information, and a full internal investigation is underway. We have written to those impacted and, as a precaution, affected accounts have been updated and new account numbers issued, with new Council Tax bills being sent out.
“We apologise for any inconvenience or worry this may have caused. Council staff have been supporting residents and will continue to do so.”
