The Nightmare Before Christmas is a hugely popular festive film – but despite this, many people are only just discovering who voiced the iconic character of Sally

When it comes to this time of year, many people like to treat themselves to a festive film. And one that has remained a classic is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The stop-motion masterpiece, which hit cinemas in 1993, follows the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who stumbles upon Christmas Town. He becomes so enchanted by it that he hatches a scheme to hijack the festive season in his own twisted fashion – but Sally, the ragdoll brought to life by local mad scientist Doctor Finkelstein, experiences a vision suggesting the plan will end in disaster.

However, because she’s secretly smitten with Jack, she disregards her premonition and supports his venture. Despite Sally gracing our screens for decades, it appears hardly anyone recognises the actress behind the character’s distinctive voice.

Clare Loughran, who goes by clary_poppins on TikTok, left social media users stunned when she shared this revelation. In a revealing video, she announced: “Fun fact – this humanoid rag doll was voiced by this humanoid matriarch.”

The clip shows an image of Sally followed by a photograph of Home Alone’s Catherine O’Hara.

That’s correct, this could well be one of the most brilliant, yet little-known, Christmas connections ever.

Besides portraying Kevin McCallister’s mother in Home Alone, the talented performer also managed to lend her voice to Sally just three years after appearing in one of the most beloved holiday films ever made.

The revelation has left the internet absolutely gobsmacked. One surprised fan responded: “No way. The star of Crows 3 voices her?”

Another chimed in: “I always thought she was voiced by Helena Bonham Carter.” And a third admitted: “I needed to know this.”

Meanwhile, a fourth confessed: “Wait, what? It’s literally my favourite, and I didn’t even know. I’m ashamed.”
