Atherton property linked to disorder issued closure order

Police have secured the shutdown of an address on Samuel Street, in Atherton.

Officers had received repeated reports of anti-social behaviour and disorder which was blighting the lives of nearby residents.

The order was granted by Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 19, prohibiting anyone from entering the address for three months.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “The Neighbourhood Team has been working closely with Wigan Borough Council to tackle ongoing issues linked to a problematic address on Samuel Street, Atherton (M46 9AY).

“Both Greater Manchester Police and the council had received repeated reports of persistent anti-social behaviour, disorder, and criminal activity, all of which were having a negative impact on the quality of life for local residents.

“Working together, Wigan Borough Council—supported by Greater Manchester Police—applied for a full Closure Order on the property.

“This was granted by Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 19, 2025 and will remain in place for three months.

“The order prohibits anyone from entering the address, except Wigan Council and emergency services.”

GMP added: “This result has only been possible thanks to the continued support of the community.

“Your reports make a real difference, and we encourage residents to keep sharing concerns through the appropriate channels so we can take action where it’s needed.

“As we head into the festive season, the Atherton & Tyldesley Neighbourhood Team would like to wish all our residents a safe, joyful, and relaxing Christmas.

“Thank you for your support throughout the year—we look forward to working with you in 2026.”
