Some TV viewers have dubbed the BBC schedule one of the ‘poorest’ ever

Summer passed in a blur, Halloween and Bonfire Night came and went. And now, just like that, Christmas is here. Before we know it, New Years Eve will have passed and we will have officially entered 2026.

Today though, families up and down the country are celebrating with loved ones, eating roast dinner, playing games, possibly arguing, and sitting in front of the TV for some festive classics. But this year, some TV viewers are complaining about the schedule as one person has dubbed this year the ‘poorest’ BBC One schedule ever.

On X, formerly Twitter, @kelvin5385 said: “have to say, apart from #shaunthesheep this must be one of the poorest @BBCOne Christmas Day TV line up – Gladiators? Where are all the big films like there used to be?”

Last year we were blessed with a new Wallace and Gromit movie, Vengeance Most Fowl, as well as a Gavin and Stacey Reunion. X user @joshpearson180 has shared: “Christmas Day TV is absolutely s**** today, we took last year for advantage with that Feathers McGraw masterclass and the Gavin & Stacey finale Fuming.”, and @TheNICKname18 said: “Christmas TV is proper sh** this year.”

@BladeoftheS wrote: “Why is TV on Christmas Day so terrible?”, @goldwynbird said: “Just shows how absolutely sh** the Christmas TV schedule is that I am currently watching a Peter Cushing film from 1966.”

On the schedule for Christmas Day 2025 is a BBC Strictly Come Dancing special, a celebrity episode of Gladiators, a new Julia Donaldson movie The Scarecrow’s Wedding, and a Channel 4 Bake Off special with the cast of Peep Show. But despite this line up, TV fans are still complaining.

Nothin good on bbc 1 or 2 or itv until Amandaland later tonight.”, and @PeachRusse67719 said: “I remember when there was great TV programmes on TV at Christmas. Now it’s mostly rubbish. There isn’t great entertainment on TV at Christmas.”

@jamiesmith_80 added: “TV has been shocking last two days. Utter rubbish. How hard is it to schedule good Christmas tv shows and films?”
