Harwood's annual Christmas Ride spreads festive cheer

The Christmas Ride was held last Sunday (December 21) – with the horses leaving Castle Farm to head down Tottington Road from 2pm.

The young riders spread festive cheer through Harwood dressed as Santa and elves – and even the horses were dressed for the occasion, some wrapped with tinsel and others wearing Santa hats.

Organiser Fran Porteous said the yearly event “went really well” with around 12 or 13 riders heading around Harwood.

She said: “It started off with the kids really and it became a sort of thing, just something nice for the kids.

“The Christmas Ride started around five or six years ago and it’s just grown from there – it’s a couple of miles around Harwood, about an hour.

“It just makes everybody smile and we get all the children waving as we go past – it’s lovely!”
