Giorgina Uzcategui, Ilia Topuria’s Ex-Wife, Takes Legal Action Against Harassment Online
On the surface, IIia Topuria would seem to be living his dream life. He is currently the UFC lightweight champion, and remains undefeated in the UFC, 9-0, and in MMA as a whole, 17-0.
However, his personal life has not been so good recently, as his wife, Giorgina Uzcategui, though separated, has been the subject of online harassment regarding the couple’s split and has made a formal complaint to the relevant authorities.
Through her legal team, Uzcategui had previously issued a statement saying the matter was strictly one of family legal proceedings, and that she wouldn’t be making any public comments surrounding the process, to respect the privacy of those involved, such as the two children.
Clearly, however, the abuse she has been receiving has been to such an extent that she has been forced to make something public and lodge a formal complaint with the Spanish National Police, bringing forward evidence of the alleged harassment which has now been handed to the Civil Guard, the law enforcement body for where she lives.

The divorce process has been drawn out as the couple decided to part in August 2025, and over time, the situation has got more and more in the public eye, and it would appear some have decided to give her a hard time for it.
The two had been together for several years and share a daughter, born in 2024. Topuria also has a son from a previous relationship. Because the divorce proceedings involve minors, details are few and far between.
Due to the private nature of the situation, details on how it got to this point are murky. When the two decided to go their separate ways, the decision of the destination of finances was at the forefront. In early November, Topuria reportedly filed for civil separation and provided terms for a custody arrangement. It then seems Uzcategui hired a lawyer and claimed abuse against him, saying she had evidence of such.
The UFC champion followed by addressing the situation on Instagram, saying the claims were an attempt to frame him for domestic abuse and to extort him. What’s true is up in the air, but it would appear some fans have taken Topuria’s side, and showered her with hateful messages and comments.

Professionally, Topuria last defended his title in June against Charles Oliveira at UFC 317, where he knocked the Brazilian out in the first round. Since then, there has been no news on when he will return to the Octagon, and it would now seem the complicated nature of his private life has played a big part in him taking a break from fighting. He said this himself, citing the situation as having a big impact on his private life and professional focus.
The lodging of the complaint is the biggest development in the case so far, but a feasible solution is still yet to be agreed, but one thing that can be agreed is, this isn’t going to be a quick fix and the end result is still probably quite a while away.
