Sherri Shepherd Defends Tyra Banks Following Documentary Backlash
Sherri Shepherd is coming to Tyra Banks’ defense following the release of the explosive documentary about the behind-the-scenes drama of the popular modeling competition reality show.
Amid online reaction that has ranged from heavily criticizing the supermodel to downright slamming her for past actions on the series, which premiered back in 2003, the talk show host was visibly emotional as she defended her.

Sherri Shepherd Tearfully Defends Tyra Banks As ‘ANTM’ Documentary Backlash Continues

During a segment on her daytime talk show on Thursday, February 19, Shepherd addressed the fallout from the much talked about Netflix documentary, “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model,” and offered a compassionate take on Banks amid the supermodel facing backlash.
“The show did awful things to the contestants, and I think everybody expected Tyra to take more accountability,” she stated. “I understand why people are mad.”
Shepherd then noted how different reality television was at the time “ANTM” was at the height of its popularity.
“But I also say, you have to understand the time this all happened was in 2003,” she said. “Reality TV was the wild, wild west back then. Every show was trying to outdo each other to stay on the air.”

“We’re woke now, we know so much more now than we did back then,” Shepherd continued her defense of Banks. “I hate that she’s getting so much flak. She does need to take accountability, I know that, but I also know the battles some people will never understand that are fought.”

Shepherd Also Pointed Out The ‘Battles’ That Banks Likely Had To Face Behind-The-Scenes To Create The Show And Keep Afloat

The former “The View” co-host noted the difficulties that Banks faced as “a young Black woman trying to make it in the reality TV game,” which did not have many women Black women in positions of power at the time.
“We’re trying to compare a time today that we know a lot to a time when there was nothing like this show on the air,” Shepherd said. “We’re not taking into account the battles that this Black woman had to fight just to stay on the air for other people to come on the air.”
Then, as she fought back tears, Shepherd added that she understands that things could have been done differently in hindsight, but Banks was ultimately coming from a genuine place even though her methods may not have always been executed properly.

“To keep a show on the air there are things that we have to do that people will tell us, if you want to stay on the air, this is what you’ve got to do, and we’ve got to weigh the options, and sometimes we make bad decisions and we look up and go, in hindsight, maybe I should not have done it, but I just wanted to open up the door and give a platform to people who look like me,” Shepherd said.

‘ANTM’ Winner Eva Marcille Also Expressed Her Support Of Tyra Banks Following The Documentary Release

During an appearance on “CBS Mornings” on Thursday, February 19, PEOPLE reported that Marcille was naturally asked about the Netflix documentary about the show, which has been a heavy topic of conversation since its release earlier this week, and she shared her perspective.
“I have been asked about Tyra for 21 years,” the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star said. “No matter what project I’m doing, what I’m involved in, somehow ‘Top Model’ finds its way in my interview. I’ve done 154 projects since ‘Top Model.’ It’s been 21 years.”
Marcille, who is easily the most successful person to come from “ANTM,” then shared that she will always thank Banks, something she has consistently done for decades, for changing her life for the better.
“Thanks to ‘Top Model,’ though,” she said. “What I will say is I will never fail to thank Tyra. What Tyra set out to do in this business, I will always say — and especially for ‘Top Model,’ initially — she set out to change the world; to change what the modeling industry looked like, sound like, felt like and expected. And she did that for me.”
Marcille also pointed out that it was “very surprising” that she was not asked to participate in the documentary.

Husband Reveals Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis
Published
Gabourey Sidibe’s husband — Brandon Frankel — has revealed he’s battling Stage 1 papillary thyroid cancer … and he says pushing doctors to listen may have saved his life.
The husband of the “American Horror Story” actress shared the news Friday in a lengthy Instagram post, writing, “Things I never thought I’d have to post: I was diagnosed with Stage I Papillary Thyroid cancer.”
He included hospital bed selfies with Sidibe smiling by his side. According to Frankel, doctors caught the cancer early, but only because he insisted on getting an ultrasound … which his doctor initially didn’t think he needed.
Frankel says surgery went well and he’s “okay for now” … however, pathology results revealed a more aggressive “tall cell” type, meaning he’ll need additional monitoring moving forward. Still, he says catching it early was key, and he’s staying proactive so he can be around for his family.
At the end of his post, he gave major credit to his wife … saying she “carried our family through all of this” while he handled appointments, surgery, and recovery. He adds, “I don’t know how anyone does this without that kind of love and support. I’m grateful. I’m lucky.”
The couple — who went public with their romance in May 2019 and tied the knot in 2021 — welcomed twins Cooper and Maya in April 2024.

The Euphoria creator, 41, and his wife appear to have donated $27,000 to the campaign, according to the GoFundMe page.
The GoFundMe was set up on Friday, February 20, by Dane’s friends, with donations going to support the Grey’s Anatomy star’s daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14. (Dane shared Billie and Georgia with his wife Rebecca Gayheart.)
As of Friday evening, the campaign has reached more than $117k of its $250k goal, with donations continuing to roll in after Dane Died on Thursday after a battle with ALS.

“Following his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for fellow patients and to push for greater awareness. Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease. As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs,” the description continued.
It concluded, “Any contribution, no matter the size, will help provide stability during this incredibly difficult time and in the future for Eric’s wonderful daughters.”

‘American Idol’ Alum Caleb Flynn Allegedly Killed Wife While Kids Slept Nearby
‘American Idol’ Alum Caleb Flynn
Shot Wife To Death With Their Kids In Other Room: Court Docs
Published
The “American Idol” alum charged with murdering his wife allegedly shot her inside their Ohio home while their two children slept in another room, according to a new report.
Caleb Flynn was arrested Thursday on charges of murder, assault and tampering with evidence in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife Ashley in their Tipp City home, just north of Dayton, police said.
The Dayton Daily News obtained a police affidavit, stating the couple’s two daughters were home at the time of the shooting, but did not wake up and were still in their bedroom when police arrived on scene. The family’s two Goldendoodles were also in the house during the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Police say Caleb shot Ashley in the head but tried to cover up the murder by trying to make it look like a fatal home invasion burglary. Cops found Ashley in bed with at least one gunshot wound to the head and two spent shells on the floor nearby, the docs say.
Miami County Communication Center
TMZ obtained 911 audio, which revealed that Caleb made an emotional call to a dispatcher, claiming an intruder broke into their house and shot Ashley, who was “white as a ghost.” Police have not released a motive.
Caleb is now being held on $2 million bail after pleading not guilty during his first court appearance Friday.
During Season 12 of “American Idol,” Caleb fell short at his audition and didn’t make the cut for the show.

Prince Andrew’s Ex Claims There’s a ‘Feeding Frenzy’ Amid His Arrest
Lady Victoria Hervey, the ex-girlfriend of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew) appears to have likened the attention surrounding his arrest to a “blood sport.”
Posting via her X account on Friday, February 20, Hervey, 49, wrote,“There is a feeding frenzy going on right now which can only be compared to a blood sport like fox hunting.”
Hervey did not mention Andrew directly in the post, but she has been a staunch supporter of the former royal in the past as controversy swirled surrounding his ties to the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on Thursday, February 19, which was also his 66th birthday.
The U.K.’s Thames Valley Police said in a statement that it has “arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office.” It added that searches are being carried out in Berkshire and Norfolk.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright later said in a statement, “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.”
“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offense,” he continued. “We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

After Andrew’s arrest, King Charles III, who stripped his brother of his “prince” title in November 2025, issued a statement.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation,” Charles, 77, said in a statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Thursday. “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
Us Weekly has previously reached out to Andrew’s lawyer and Buckingham Palace for comment.
Hervey has publicly defended Andrew since the royal’s association with Epstein resurfaced in 2019. Following Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019, Hervey surprisingly suggested the shocking TV appearance proved his innocence to her.
“I watched it and I thought, there is no way, if he is guilty, that he would go onto television and do an interview like that. There’s no way,” she insisted to Good Morning Britain at the time.
Andrew was sued by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre over sexual assault allegations in 2021 and settled the lawsuit for a private sum the following year. Hervey frequently spoke out in defense of Andrew, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.
In a Good Morning Britain interview in 2019, Hervey claimed had a short-lived romance with Andrew after his split from Sarah Ferguson. (Andrew and Ferguson wed in 1986 and welcomed two children, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, before divorcing in 1996.)
“It was not really [dating], we had a couple of dinners together,” she told the British morning show at the time. “And that was around the same time [as I met Epstein], I think it was around 1999, 2000.”
