‘Banned driver found at wheel’ of Billingham firm Devereux’s lorry
The Devereux Transport and Distribution lorry was stopped by officers in Sprotbrough, South Yorkshire earlier this month after damage was seen to its cab doors.
South Yorkshire Police said the truck, which was carrying a full load at the time, had been involved in a crash outside its force area and the driver was already disqualified from the roads.

The Billingham-based firm’s lorry was seized, and the driver has been summonsed to court.
Ken Devereux, owner of Devereux Transport and Distribution, told the Echo: “This incident is currently being investigated.

“We use a HGV licence-checking company who regularly check all of our drivers’ licences and on the most recent check this driver’s licence was valid.”
He said he was unable to comment further at this time.

The truck was stopped on December 18 as part of a police and DVSA operation.
South Yorkshire Police added: “It cannot be shied away from that vehicles of a greater weight are more likely to cause fatal and serious injuries if involved in a collision.
“We want everyone to return home from their journeys to their families and make no apologies for our efforts; it’s not about enforcement – it’s about saving lives.”
