10+ years in IT and now a Director making over 100k. When I first started, I couldn’t get anyone to give me a chance, not even the company I worked for at the time would give me an opportunity in the IT dept. I had to take an internship to get my foot in the door. It allowed me to meet many people who then helped me find even more jobs throughout my career. Find an internship or a low paying job at a company you can leverage on your resume at another company with a good reputation. Don’t do it to work at some small company just looking for cheap labor. Do it to build your resume and don’t plan to stay there unless they are investing in your skills and giving you a decent wage. keep your eye on the prize. Create a home lab and use job ads for the next job you want as a guide on what to learn. Always always apply for new jobs while working for one. It’s 10x harder to get a job when you don’t have one. Go to networking events and use your vacation days to attend conferences.
