‘Keep away’ warning after South Shields Ocean Beach fire
Six fire engines were called to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields on Friday night (December 26) after a large-scale fire broke out at the venue – the cause of which is not yet known.
Images from the scene show a huge plume of smoke billowing from one of the buildings of the beach-front attraction, with blue lights blaring on the road next to it.
Now, members of the public have been told to stay away after the blaze, with fire officers warning people not to go near the venue.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “I can confirm that we have attended a fire in the Sea Road area of South Shields.
“At the height of the incident we had six fire engines, specialist appliances and four officers on scene.
“We cannot confirm the origin of the fire at this time, and we ask the public to keep away from the immediate area.
“We would like to thank Northumbria Police and North East Ambulance Service for their assistance.”
Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
