‘Unoccupied’ van collides with cyclists as two people rushed to Edinburgh hospital

A man and woman were taken to hospital for treatments on injuries they sustained after a collision with an unoccupied van.

Two cyclists have been rushed to hospital after being injured by an ‘unoccupied’ van during a collision. The incident took place on Picardy Place at around 4pm on Saturday December 27.

An image from the scene showed two ambulances and at least three police cars at the scene. Lothian Buses were forced to divert services from the area while emergency services attended the crash.

Officers said a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were taken to hospital after the incident. It is not known how the van collided with the cyclists.

Police have said they will continue to probe the crash, reports Edinburgh Live. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.05pm on Saturday, 27 December, 2025, we received a report of an unoccupied van having collided with two cyclists on Picardy Place in Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and the cyclists, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, were taken to hospital for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
