West Ham Make 6 ft 5 'Machine' Top Priority in January After Fullkrug Decision

West Ham United will consider changing manager for the third time this season if their form does not improve over the festive and New Year period, GMS understands.

Nuno Espirito Santo has won just two of his 13 games in charge since replacing Graham Potter in September, including Saturday’s late 1-0 loss to Fulham. It left West Ham still four points adrift of safety, having failed to make ground on Nottingham Forest, who lost at home to Manchester City.

The Hammers currently sit in 18th place, and with a bit of a gap being created between the bottom three and the rest of the pack, the pressure is now on for Nuno to turn things around quickly.

West Ham Hierarchy Surprised by Nuno Decision

MS has learned that some within the Hammers hierarchy have been left surprised by Nuno’s reluctance to start with a recognised No.9 in the team, even though options are currently limited. Niklas Fullkrug will join Milan on loan this winter, while Callum Wilson’s wage increases significantly due to part of his deal being pay-as-you-play.

Nuno believes a new target man is needed, and would no doubt play with a more defined striker should one arrive. The former Wolves and Forest boss is also hoping to add a central midfielder and defender in January to boost West Ham’s survival chances, but the Hammers boss is not immune from scrutiny heading into 2026, despite his belief some of the squad’s issues can be fixed in the forthcoming market.

Slaven Bilic is expected to be one option West Ham could turn to if another change is made. The ex-Hammers defender and manager has been out of work since leaving Saudi side Al-Fateh in 2024, and the 57-year-old is understood to have been a name put forward by West Ham co-owner David Sullivan after Potter departed.
