Angola v Egypt preview

Egypt will look to register their third successive win at AFCON 2025 when they come up against Angola tomorrow.

Hossam Hassan’s side have enjoyed wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa to make sure of their place in the knockout stages and a draw here will ensure they finish top of the pool.

The Egypt boss says there will be no let up from his side.

“We will play to win against Angola even after qualifying,” Hassan said. “This match is a valuable opportunity to prepare the team for the upcoming rounds, with full respect for Angola’s quality and status.

“Angola are a strong and respected team. This game gives us the chance to fine-tune our performance. The players are showing the spirit and determination worthy of the Egypt national team and our constant goal of making the fans happy.”

That’s not to say Hassan won’t make changes to his starting XI and keep some of his big-hitters fresh for the challenges to come.

Speaking after the win over South Africa, he said: ”I will introduce new faces during the game against Angola as it comes just 48 hours after today’s match.”

Angola are third in Group B and know a win is a must if they are to stand any realistic chance of advancing.

Egypt defender Mohamed Hany is suspended after being sent off against Bafana Bafana.

Hassan could resist the temptation to leave Mohamed Salah on the bench from the start but he will likely come off at some stage.

Angola will be at full strength for a match they have to win.
