Dubai Health reports 95% success rate in kidney transplant programme
Dubai Health has completed 234 kidney transplant surgeries since the launch of its transplant programme in 2016, achieving a success rate of more than 95 per cent and underscoring the impact of cross-sector collaboration in delivering specialised care.
The programme supports patients of diverse nationalities and age groups, with children accounting for 31.2 per cent of transplant recipients. Of the total procedures, 120 were performed at Dubai Health hospitals, 90 at Mediclinic City Hospital, and 24 at Al Qassimi Hospital.
The initiative is delivered in cooperation with a wide network of federal, local and private-sector partners, including healthcare authorities, airports, emergency services, law enforcement and customs entities. It also supports the national Hayat Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue, which aims to expand access to life-saving transplant services.
Strengthening organ donation awareness
His Excellency Dr Amer Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, said the results reflect the strength of coordinated, patient-centred care.
“These efforts highlight a collaborative approach across sectors in organ transplantation and reaffirm our commitment to delivering specialised care,” Dr Sharif said. “They embody our leadership’s vision of placing human health at the forefront of priorities and reinforce Dubai’s position in this field.”
He added that Dubai Health’s “Patient First” approach ensures access to comprehensive treatment, supported by the work of Al Jalila Foundation, which plays a key role in improving patients’ quality of life.
Kidneys used in the procedures were donated by both living and deceased donors, reflecting growing community awareness of the importance of organ donation. All transplant cases follow a multidisciplinary care model, combining thorough assessment, surgical treatment and structured long-term follow-up aligned with international standards.
Al Jalila Foundation has supported transplant patients through initiatives such as “Your Donation Saves Lives,” covering treatment costs for 66 patients to date, alongside the A’awen programme, which assists those unable to access or afford specialised care.
Dubai Health continues to provide kidney care services across multiple facilities, including Dubai Hospital, Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, Al Twar Dialysis Centre and Al Barsha Dialysis Centre, as part of its broader commitment to advancing health outcomes across the emirate.
