Celebrity Apprentice viewers weren’t impressed as the winning team were announced on Tuesday

Celebrity Apprentice fans fumed “fix” as Lord Sugar made a shock announcement on Tuesday (December 30).

The first of two celebrity Christmas specials aired on Monday (December 29) in aid of BBC Children in Need. The episode saw 12 famous faces travel to Lapland to create their own festive gingerbread biscuits, as well as develop marketing for their product by creating an advert and a jingle.

The first group was made up of Tom Skinner, Matt Morsia, Shazia Mirza, Angela Scanlon, Sarah Hadland and project manager JB Gill. Meanwhile, the second group featured Charlie Hedges, AJ Odudu, Jake Wood, Kadeena Cox, Eddie Kadi and project manager Rob Rinder.

JB’s team created Gary the Penguin, who was flavoured with bubblegum and white pepper. Rob’s team instead opted for a gingerbread called Jolly Mc Trouble, which had flavours of vanilla and Christmas pudding, but they got slightly burnt.

The second instalment of the Christmas special aired tonight, with the teams presenting their products to a panel of retailers at a London location.

Matt, Shazia and Tom left their teammates speechless as they unveiled their advert, which featured Tom screaming in a penguin costume.

After completing market research with groups of young children, the teams began preparing for their important pitches. The celebrities also used their own contacts to rack up some orders.

For the pitch, JB’s team enlisted the help of Rylan Clark and Gladiators stars Montell Douglas, Livi Sheldon and Matty Campbell – aka Fire, Diamond and Bionic. Meanwhile, Rob got a few of his famous friends to send videos of their support, including acting legends Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman.

Back in the boardroom, Lord Sugar was impressed with Rob’s team as they shared the story behind their biscuit and Jake’s well-thought-out advert. However, in an unexpected twist, it was JB’s team that clinched the win after receiving the most orders.

Rob’s team managed to get 355,500 units, while JB’s team earned an impressive 452,000 orders. However, the show’s viewers weren’t impressed with the result, with many sharing their frustration on X (formerly Twitter).

“Fix, how did they win with that crap?!” one person wrote, with another adding: “How the f*** did that team win with that diabolical advert.”

A third said: “Shocked that the Gary The Penguin team won. They had the worse TV advert and their flavours were disgusting. Jolly Mc Trouble should have won.”

Meanwhile, another viewer was happy with the winning team, saying: “I’m pleased Gary the Penguin won as even though their ad was awful, the product made far more sense (and the jingle was catchy)!”

At the end of the episode, project manager Rob brought Kadeena and Jake back into the boardroom, with Lord Sugar ultimately choosing to fire Rob.
