Enzo Maresca Sack Update Emerges Out of Chelsea After Bournemouth Draw
Chelsea have no plans to sack Enzo Maresca imminently despite the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.
The Blues were held to just one point at Stamford Bridge despite taking a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez, but have now won just one game in their last seven in the Premier League, leaving them 15 points off league leaders Arsenal in fifth place.
That has seen the Italian come under increasing pressure from the fans about his performance this season, but it has now emerged that there are no plans for an imminent change currently.
Sources: Maresca Must Improve Results
GIVEMESPORT sources understand that while there are no plans to make a change immediately following the draw with the Cherries, there is an acceptance that results need to improve quickly.
The Blues are set to face off against Manchester City, Fulham, Charlton, Arsenal, Brentford and Pafos in their next six games over four different competitions, and unless results take a positive upturn then it’s expected that Maresca will come under increasing pressure during the month of January.
Chelsea are currently planning to review Maresca’s position in the summer based on the outcome of the current season, but it’s now understood that the board could decide to bring that plan forward if the form that has seen the club pick up just one win in seven in the Premier League doesn’t pick up.
Maresca signed a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029 when he joined from Leicester City in the summer of 2024, reflecting the belief that the board had in his qualities as a manager.
The current ownership have previously sacked Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in mid-season during their tenureship at the club, while Frank Lampard has been an interim manager and Mauricio Pochettino was sacked at the end of his first full campaign too.
Maresca Feeling The Pressure
Maresca has sparked some concern in recent times with his comments in public about the fans and board, while he has also been linked with the Man City post should Pep Guardiola opt to leave at the end of his contract next summer.
Fans booed after the draw with Bournemouth and Maresca didn’t do a post-game press conference as he was feeling unwell.
If things don’t change quickly, Maresca’s position could become untenable and that could plunge their season into chaos. The club are still in all four competitions, despite Maresca having never fielded a player above the age of 30 during his reign.
