California gubernatorial candidate Chad Bianco reveals sports vision for state

A lifelong New York Yankees fan is asking the people of California to make him their next governor.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who grew up in the heyday of the 1970-80s Yankees-Dodgers rivalry, admitted he had mixed emotions when Shohei Ohtani and company beat his childhood team in the 2024 World Series.

“I did [celebrate]. I was sad because I wanted the Yankees to win, but at the time, as a baseball fan I also noticed the Dodgers were a better team. The Dodgers deserved to win and I was very happy to be from the Los Angeles area,” Bianco told Fox News Digital.

Around that same time, Bianco watched one of his Republican colleagues, and a staple in the 70s-80s Dodgers-Yankees rivalry, former Dodgers star Steve Garvey, make a run at a U.S. Senate seat in California. Bianco campaigned with Garvey. But Garvey came up well short against Democrat incumbent Adam Schiff that year.

Now, Bianco, who is currently a frontrunner for the California governorship in many 2026 polls, believes that two years of Democratic leadership since Garvey’s failed run has only strengthened the case for voting Republican in the Golden State.

“We’re in a little bit worse off scenario than we were in 2024,” Bianco said. “Californians are realizing that politics are corrupt, our state government is corrupt, and crime is really out of control.”

And sports hasn’t been spared any concerns in the state.

With the Winter Olympics now over, and the Summer Olympics coming to Los Angeles just over two years from now, anxiety has mounted over the feasibility of the city being able to host the games, due to crime rates, homelessness, damage from the 2025 wildfires, and rising taxes.

And on the youth front, the state faces an ongoing wave of biological male transgender athletes competing in girls’ high school sports, as California leadership has refused to comply with President Donald Trump’s mandate to ensure only female athletes compete in girls’ sports. The state’s refusal has prompted a Department of Justice lawsuit, multiple federal investigations, as dozens of California girls facing life-changing trauma, with some filing la”wsuits of their own.

Bianco thinks he has solutions for both issues.

The 2028 LA Olympics

As a sheriff, Bianco believes that if Los Angles was set to hold the Olympics this summer, in the city’s current state, it would not be possible to do so.

“No, I don’t think so,” Bianco said of the city being able to host the games if they occurred this year.

“Everyone’s wondering how they’re going to arrange the Olympics… we don’t have the money to dedicate to this, we don’t have the updated resources to dedicate to this, for transportation or even housing… I think it is absolutely embarrassing… I think the U.S. is going to have an amazing Olympics, but for the city of Los Angeles it’s certainly not a proud moment.”

Bianco pointed to financial mismanagement and alleged fraud in the state government.

Los Angeles continues to experience one of the nation’s largest homeless populations, with approximately 72,000+ individuals, driven by severe shortages in affordable housing and high rent, per the LA Homeless Services Authority

Bianco warned of what he expects Democrat leadership would do if they remain in power when the Olympics comes around.

“They will go in at the last minute, and they will forcibly remove all of them and it’s not like they remove them, they just force them to the outskirts away from the perimeters of where these events are going to be,” Bianco said. “It’s not good for anyone, it’s not good for those events, it’s not good for those neighborhoods, it’s certainly not good for the people who are homeless.”

Bianco said a more feasible solution would require possibly years of resource re-allocation, which he hopes to take on as the state’s next governor. He would eliminated funding to

“We will have a year, possibly a year and a half to two years, to make sure we address the homeless situation, and I guarantee you that’s enough time,” Bianco said.

“It really isn’t homeless, it’s not homes, it’s drug and alcohol addiction, combined with mental health issues. And we have to be honest and we have to start addressing it for what it is. So you eliminate all the money going to the non-profits and NGOs that’s being wasted, abused and funneled back into politics. You stop that immediately.

“You put a small portion of that into the drug and alcohol rehab and the mental health rehab, and the centers that treat both. Because right now those don’t exist. I can almost guarantee you that we can address 90% of the homeless issue that we see on the streets within the first year. Within the second year, we can have it all gone.”

There is also an issue of financial strain on athletes coming into the state.

Bianco pointed to the recent Super Bowl in Santa Clara, and the financial burden that hit the players who competed in it simply because they had to pay California taxes.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold lost approximately $71,000 due to California’s strict “jock tax”. While earning a $178,000 winner’s bonus, the week spent in California for Super Bowl LX triggered high state taxes on his, amounting to roughly $249,000, as the tax applies to prorated earnings from his three-year, $105 million contract.

For the Olympic athletes coming to the city in 2028, especially Americans, many of whom make far less than the average NFL player, Bianco worries how the state’s current tax system could put them at a disadvantage due to financial constraints.

“It’s going to seriously affect them with the cost of living here,” Bianco said. “They don’t make a lot of money… it’s astronomically more expensive than any place across the country, so it’s going to be detrimental for those people.”

Bianco has proposed eliminating the state income tax, intending to replace lost revenue with income from oil production. He has also stated that as governor, he would eliminate the gas tax and oppose a “mileage tax.”

“Taxes are hurting everyone,” Bianco said.

Trans athletes in girls’ sports

California has been the nation’s biggest hot bed for high school and college scandals involving biological male trans athletes competing in girls’ and women’s sports.

Current California Gov. Gavin Newsom has said he believes males in female sports is “deeply unfair” but hasn’t taken any steps to address. Newsom’s office provided a statement to Fox News Digital in September, suggesting the issue is beyond his control and responsibility.

“For the law to change, the legislature would need to send the Governor a bill. They have not,” part of the statement read.

Bianco said Newsom’s office is not telling the truth.

“Every time he opens his mouth he’s not telling the truth. He’s telling his version of what he wants you to believe… The reality is the governor is the top executive officer in this entire state and he sets the rules” Bianco said.

“That’s the governor lying to push the blame onto somebody else because he doesn’t want to be held responsible for what’s happening in our schools and our girls, because he wants to be president, and he knows the majority of the country is never ever ever going to vote for him knowing that he won’t stop this, so he’s blaming someone else.”

Bianco said he would use “force” as governor to ensure that girls’ sports are protected.

“You force people to not,” he said of how to handle schools letting males in girls’ sports. “In our high schools and in our school system, if they are going to allow it, we will not fund that. We will not fund the school, we will not provide them with their money.”

But preventing the issue from persisting is only half the battle. The fact is, the issue has persisted in California now for several years, and the state and many residents are dealing with the aftermath.

Young male children in California have even been transitioned at schools, without their parents’ permission, and later placed on girls’ sports teams and in thier locker rooms.

Now, the state faces a lawsuit from the DOJ over its policy, while many schools face individualized lawsuits for related incidents.

Bianco believes he could “easily” settle the DOJ lawsuit simply by complying with Trump’s mandate.

But the individual incidents may require more steps, according to Bianco.

In Bianco’s home county of Riverside, two separate lawsuits have been filed against school districts.

A major state-funded university, San Jose State University, has been found by the U.S. Department of Education to have violated Title IX in its handling of a transgender volleyball player from 2022-24, and faces a lawsuit from former athletes and a former coach over the same issue.

Bianco believes the young women who have been affected by it are deserving of financial compensation, compensation from the schools and compensation directly from the state.

“Some [girls] have been seriously injured, and some were just emotionally traumatized. The schools should be paying for that. The state government should be paying for that,” Bianco said. “Our civil process allows for monetary remedies for situations like this, and they should be getting tons of money, because they have seriously been victimized.

“There certainly has to be those arrangements made for those lawsuits, those girls that are suing… you have to settle it… or you’re going to pay big money. So they are going to get money out of this and they should. They were wronged, they were deeply wronged.”

Under the current system, thousands of California school employees are legally required to be complicit in the system that allows trans athletes in girls’ sports, but also the system that allows males to gender transition without their parents’ consent or knowledge.

Some school employees have been fired for refusing to be complicit.

Bianco has a message for all school employees about how to handle this issue. He encourages school employees to, in the short term, risk their employment by not complying with state laws.

“Stand up and do the right thing,” Bianco said to the state’s school employees. “Thank God we have teachers that are standing up for that, and they’re doing the right thing, and they’re absolutely refusing, and they’re being fired. Take the badge of honor. Because then you sue, like these teachers are doing it, and now we’re finding that they’re winning…

“Your job as an adult is to protect our kids.”

Bianco also warned of consequences to the school employees that do comply if he becomes governor.

“Absolutely,” Bianco said when asked if he would support consequences to school employees who are complying with the state law on trans athletes in girls’ sports and gender transitions for minors.

“Elected officials are only afraid of one thing, and that’s not getting elected again, and when they know they’re not going to get elected again because they’re harming our girls or they’re not protecting our kids, they’re going to finally be forced to do the right thing, and we’ll make sure these changes are taken care of.”

Chris Sale signs one-year, $27-million contract extension with Braves

Published

on

Chris Sale is staying in Atlanta.

The star lefty signed a one-year, $27-million contract extension through 2027, the Braves announced on Tuesday.

The deal also includes a $30-million club option for 2028. Sale had been set to hit free agency at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

The veteran starter has enjoyed a career renaissance with the Braves, including a Cy Young Award win in 2024.

Sale, 36, followed it up with another strong year last season, when he appeared in 21 games with a 2.58 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.

For his career, the nine-time all-star holds a 3.01 ERA over 393 games with the Braves, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox.

The Braves originally acquired Sale from the Red Sox in a 2023 trade that sent then-prospect Vaughn Grissom the other way.

Atlanta will be looking to return to the post-season this year after faltering to a fourth-place finish in the NL East at 76-86 last year.

Devin Haney wants to make ‘the biggest fight in boxing’

Published

on

Devin Haney has expressed his desire to be involved in a monumental showdown which, he believes, is the ‘biggest fight in boxing’.

The 27-year-old claimed his WBO welterweight title in November, scoring a second-round knockdown before dethroning Brian Norman Jr by unanimous decision.

In doing so, Haney became a three-division world champion after previously outpointing the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko and Regis Prograis at 135 and 140lbs, respectively.

Having maintained his unbeaten record, too, ‘The Dream’ is now considered one of the sport’s most elite operators, with his only bump in the road arriving against Ryan Garcia in April 2024.

Back then, Haney suffered a majority decision defeat after getting floored three times, only for the result to be overturned to a no-contest due to Garcia testing positive for banned substance ostarine.

Following Garcia’s year-long drugs ban, the pair then returned on the same card in May, with Haney producing a safety-first performance to outpoint Jose Ramirez.

Garcia, however, suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Rolando Romero, but nonetheless returned last Saturday to dethrone Mario Barrios with a wide points victory.

As a result of ‘King Ry’ claiming the WBC title, many now believe that a unification match between him and Haney would garner terrific interest, especially when considering the drama attached to their first encounter.

Recognising this, Haney took to social media over the weekend with a mock-up poster for their potential rematch, while also reminding Garcia that performance-enhancing drugs are strictly forbidden.

While Haney seems eager to face his welterweight rival next, Garcia has expressed more of an interest in taking on WBO super-lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who he called out immediately after his victory over Barrios.

Mike Zimmer Working on a Comeback

Things did not end well between the Minnesota Vikings and Mike Zimmer four years ago, when he was shown the door. The veteran coach has taken several shots at his old franchise. Last year, he was reportedly set to retire, but a comeback is in the works.

The Denver Broncos could be the next stop in his NFL career, where he would reunite with his old coworker Sean Payton. The two experienced skippers crossed paths on the Dallas Cowboys staff from 2003 to 2005. He also knows Broncos GM George Paton from his time in Minnesota.

Broncos insider Mike Klis reported Monday, “Per source, #Broncos visited last week with veteran coach Mike Zimmer about a senior coaching position. Nothing imminent but there is mutual interest. Zimmer has been a football coach since 1979 and started his NFL career in 1994.”

Zimmer was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator in 2024, but his unit left much to be desired. When the organization parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, Zimmer was not retained and decided to call it a career. Looks like that might have only lasted a year.

His previous job in the NFL was with the Vikings, whom he head-coached from 2014 through 2021. When he arrived, he took over a franchise without an identity, and he quickly established a culture — and a defense — that regained national respect for his club.

At his peak, he led the Vikings to the NFC Championship game in 2017 behind an outstanding defense. In his eight seasons, the Vikings ranked 7th in points allowed. Excluding 2020 and 2021, his squad ranked 2nd, trailing only the Patriots.

In his final two seasons in Minnesota, the defense was the clear weakness. Perhaps he failed to make adjustments later in his career, but it’s only fair to note that he worked with subpar defensive personnel in both years and injuries further increased the struggles.

But he didn’t just get fired for his defenses; the culture in the building had reached a point where the usually patient Vikings ownership group wanted to overhaul everything, letting go of both Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman.

Zimmer gave a feisty interview in September 2024, telling the Star Tribune that he hadn’t watched a single Vikings game in the two seasons since his departure.

A couple of storylines about him not getting along with general manager Rick Spielman, going so far that they didn’t even talk in the later stretches of their Vikings’ employment, and the fact that Zimmer refused to address the locker room following his dismissal because his players got him fired. All of that might explain why the team didn’t reach the postseason in his final two years with the organization.

Still, during his time with the Vikings, he oversaw the team with the 10th-best record, 72-56-1, His playoff success was limited to a couple of wins, both over his potential new boss, Sean Payton and his Saints.

At the end of the day, Zimmer is still viewed as a brilliant defensive mind and that’s why the Broncos are interested. They have one of the league’s elite units and want to keep it that way.

Chad Jensen of SI.com commented, “The Broncos fielded one of the NFL’s best defenses in back-to-back seasons, leading the league in sacks over that span. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has done an excellent job, and he’ll be returning in 2026 after all the head-coaching vacancies dried up.”

Joseph was viewed as a hot head coaching candidate, but like Brian Flores, hasn’t gotten the desired interest.

“The Broncos lost their defensive-coordinator-in-waiting when Jim Leonhard was hired by the Buffalo Bills last month. Zimmer is getting up there in age, but if he’s hired as a senior assistant, it makes me wonder whether he’ll be the fail-safe in the event that Joseph finally gets a second bite at the head-coaching apple following the 2026 season.”

If the Broncos do add Zimmer in a senior advisory role, it would mark a notable return for one of the most influential defensive minds of the past decade. While his tenure in Minnesota ended on a complicated note, his reputation around the league as a defensive strategist remains intact, which helps explain why a contender with an already strong defense would explore adding his experience to the coaching staff.

Zimmer, 69, might not be done with the NFL after all.

Marcus Rashford admitted to breaking manager’s strict rule as Barcelona take action

Marcus Rashford is in strong form for Barcelona but old habits have reared their head

Marcus Rashford once admitted to breaking the rules at Manchester United as his manager at Barcelona has introduced stricter measures to combat players who are late to training or on a matchday.

Currently on loan from United, Rashford has rediscovered his finest form. Yet punctuality issues that previously plagued him at Old Trafford have continued to dog him.

Earlier this season, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick dropped him from the squad as a consequence. Rashford arrived just two minutes late to a team meeting and was subsequently left out of the starting line-up for a match against Getafe.

Flick had instructed his players to be present for a 9:30am meeting on matchday, followed by an ‘activation session’ at 11am. Despite being only two minutes late, the manager’s strict disciplinary code meant Rashford did not feature from the off.

The German head coach has since introduced even tighter regulations for players who indulge in tardiness – with offenders now facing a steep financial penalty. Barca forward Ferran Torres recently revealed: “Hansi Flick has just changed the rules on arriving late. If it’s match day and you’re late, you have to pay €40,000 (£34,900) fine”.

In 2024, Rashford faced severe disciplinary action after attending parties and skipping training in Manchester following consecutive midweek nights out in Belfast. The forward missed a Friday training session, citing illness as his reason for absence, and was ultimately slapped with a £650,000 fine.

Rewind to January 2023 and Rashford himself admitted that he was left out of United’s starting line-up against Wolves after oversleeping and arriving late to a team meeting. Former United boss Erik ten Hag then left the forward on the bench for the tie at Molineux.

Speaking to BT Sport, Rashford said: “I was a little bit late for a meeting – I overslept. It’s the team rules and it’s a mistake that can happen.

“I’m disappointed not to play, but I understand the decision and I’m happy that we managed to win the game anyway. I think we can draw a line under it and move on.”

Barcelona currently sit top of the La Liga standings, one point clear of rivals Real Madrid, following their 3-0 victory over Levante on Sunday. Flick now appears to be instilling first-class standards at the club as he chases his second consecutive league title with the Spanish giants.

He said: “The group is convinced of the work we are doing. It is not a simple situation, but communication is essential. We have been very clear and honest with each other. I ask them questions, it’s my way of managing the team.

“We need leaders in the dressing room and for that, it is key to speak to them at the same level. After that, the decisions are mine. I want the players to take responsibility and they are doing that.”

When will Bridgerton season 4 part 2 premiere? Release date, what to expect, returning cast, and more

Published

on

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 is going to carry on the recent chapter of Netflix’s Regency era drama, centering the story around Benedict Bridgerton and his love affair with Sophie Baek. Following the launch of part 1 that took viewers to a masquerade ball and introduced a Lady in Silver, the excitement level is getting higher for the season finale.

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 is the second half of an eight-episode season that covers the third book in Julia Quinn’s series, An Offer from a Gentleman. After the first part set up the emotional drama, the new episodes should bring to a close the main issue of fantasy versus reality that characterizes Benedict and Sophie’s love story.

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 premieres on February 26 at 12 a.m. PT on Netflix, concluding Benedict and Sophie’s romance arc with returning cast members including Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha, and key members of the Bridgerton family.

What is the release date of Bridgerton season 4 part 2 and what to expect?

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 will be released on February 26, 12 a.m. PT on Netflix. The launch will wrap up Benedict’s storyline in the season and reveal the state of his relationship with Sophie following the disclosures of Part 1.

Season 4 focuses on Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, who at the outset is against getting married while his brothers have already set up their family life. His attitude changes after he runs into a woman wearing a mask at his mother Violet’s masquerade ball.

He only knows her as the Lady in Silver and henceforth, he looks for her in every corner of society, not knowing that she is Sophie, a maid working under Lady Araminta Gun.

As Part 1 makes clear, Benedict and Sophie come to the world from totally different places. Showrunner Jess Brownell shed light on this theme, saying that Benedict is a man who fantasizes. Sophie is a woman who has to cope with a harsh reality. Brownell went on to say that the pair needs to find a middle ground, a place where the extremes meet, for love to blossom, in a chat with Netflix Tudum.

Luke Thompson, an actor in the series, mentioned that the plot of the show is inspired by the tradition of fairy tales, and that the series combines children’s ideas of magic and romance with the familiar world of Bridgerton.

Yerin Ha, the actress portraying Sophie, expressed that the character’s strength and the social challenges that she faces kept her interested. Ha also mentioned Quinn’s book, as Sophie is a mixture of temper and vulnerability, which is the way she tried to show her character on the screen.

In addition, Brownell quoted, in the Netflix press release, that Sophie should not be seen as a typical damsel in distress but rather as an intelligent and cunning character whose survival instincts at times hinder her from entering into love.
