The men, aged 19 and 39, both from Middlesbrough, were arrested on Tuesday, December 30, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, arson and criminal damage.

The arrests come after a number of incidents reported over Saturday, December 27, and Sunday, December 28.

These included criminal damage to the window of a house and a vehicle being set alight at a property on Churchill Road in Eston, a person was assaulted on Lime Crescent, and criminal damage to two vehicles on St Patricks Close in Grangetown.

Both men were questioned in custody and have since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Sewell, from Redcar and Cleveland CID, said: “Since the reports were made, officers have been conducting various enquiries including house-to-house, obtaining and reviewing footage and conducting arrest attempts in a bid to find those believed to be responsible.

“This has led to two men being arrested and subsequently questioned.

“We have also had a visible policing presence with various patrols taking place in the immediate areas of Grangetown and Brambles Farm and this will continue to provide reassurance to those living within the community.
