A boy aged 16 and a man aged 18 are in custody following the incident
Two people have been arrested following reports of a gun being pointed at a car. Police were called at 1.24pm on New Year’s Eve (December 31) to Birch Green Road, Skelmersdale, after reports a firearm had been pointed towards a BMW 1 Series vehicle.
Officers were also called to two reports of damage to properties on Windrows and Willow Hey and currently believe the incidents are linked. A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man have been arrested and are in custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm, Lancashire Police said.
An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing to identify the suspects involved. A search authority under Section 60a of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 was also put in place, LancsLive reported.
A Skelmersdale police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information or anyone with footage such as CCTV, Ring doorbell or mobile phone footage to come forward. We are especially keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the BMW, a grey 1 Series registration YC55 WFD, in the area in the days before yesterday’s incidents.”
Det Insp Steve Monk, of South CID, added: “We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of yesterday’s incidents which we are treating extremely seriously. Any suggestion a firearm may have been used is very concerning and efforts are being made to trace all of those involved.
“While we have now made two arrests our enquiries are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone with any information or footage to come forward. You can contact us directly or you can report anonymously through Crimestoppers.”
