Are Markets Open on New Year’s Day?

New Year's Day celebrations in Sydney. Australian stocks saw their biggest annual gains in four years.

U.S. bond markets close early today, at 2 p.m. ET. Stock markets will be open the usual hours on New Year’s Eve.

Several international markets were shut all day Wednesday. Others, such as the U.K., finished early. Its FTSE 100 rose 22% this year, the biggest gain since 2009. Elsewhere in Europe, Germany’s DAX jumped 23%, its best year since 2019.

Tomorrow, U.S. stock and bond markets will be closed for New Year’s Day. Numerous markets across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas will also be closed.
