Kuwait National Campaign for Debtors

Kuwait has settled the debts of 2,635 Kuwaiti men and women under the third National Campaign for Debtors, with total payments reaching KD15.37 million, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Wednesday, according to Kuwait News Agency.

Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Chairman of the Debtors Committee, Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, said the final batch of payments has been transferred to the relevant department at the Ministry of Justice to complete the necessary legal procedures.

Al-Ajmi said the third campaign surpassed the previous two in terms of both the funds collected and the number of cases handled, reflecting what he described as strong cooperation between government institutions and the community, as well as Kuwait’s longstanding humanitarian approach to supporting financially distressed citizens.

According to the ministry, the campaign resulted in the closure of 4,345 cases, helping to ease legal and financial pressures on many Kuwaiti families. Payments were made in six batches, with individual settlements capped at KD16,500. Disbursements were carried out in line with eligibility criteria described as transparent and fair.

More than 9,000 applications were reviewed by six specialised committees representing relevant government bodies and charitable organisations. The ministry said cases that had already benefited from previous campaigns, as well as debts related to government entities and telecommunications companies, were excluded from the initiative.

Al-Ajmi expressed his appreciation to Kuwait’s political leadership, the Cabinet, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, as well as major donors, for their support of the campaign.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening social protection and family stability, in line with Kuwait’s humanitarian values.
