The road has previously been described as ‘treacherous’, after it saw four crashes on the same day.
Part of a road which is known for crashes will be closed for six months for roadworks. A section of Forty Foot Bank in Ramsey will close from Monday, January 5, and is expected to remain closed until July 6.
Cambridgeshire County Council is overseeing the works and said it is to carry out repairs along the road. In a notice informing of the works it said: “The proposed order is necessary to facilitate carriageway repairs and associated works which are being carried out on or near this highway.”
The road will be closed Monday to Fridays between 8am and 5pm. A diversion will be in place via Benwick Road, Ramsey Road, Ibbersons Drove, and vice versa.
Forty Foot Bank was the site of four crashes in November 2025. At the time, Cambridgeshire Police described the road as ‘treacherous’.
In 2025, it was also announced that £250,000 would be set aside for repairs along the road. Cambridgeshire County Council has been contacted for more information.
