Netflix’s ‘Love Is Blind’ Experiment Is Completely Broken After 10 Seasons

Published

on

Blake stands with a producer before quitting and ghosting his dates on 'Love Is Blind' Season 9.

Evolution in reality television is natural. In fact, it’s necessary. To establish longevity in the industry, shows need to evolve to avoid staleness while maintaining their integrity. For the hit Netflix series Love Is Blind, the evolution of the reality TV genre has been on full display within its ten seasons, as it’s gone from a fascinating experiment to mindless entertainment.

The Ohio season marks Season 10 of Love Is Blind. When it began in 2020, it served as a groundbreaking series that not only shaped reality TV dating shows but also how we examine dating in the real world. The premise of the experiment was to truly test whether men and women could remove sex and attraction and find their person through emotional connection. At first, we learned it was possible. But 10 seasons later, we’ve learned the experiment is broken. Between Jessica Barrett dumping Chris Fusco because he tends to go for “pilates girls” to Priyanka Grandhi and Alex Henderson knowing each other pre-pods, it’s just not the same anymore. Love Is Blind needs a hard reset.

‘Love Is Blind’s Participants Are Missing the Point of Netflix’s Experiment

Like in any reality show, casting is key. Not only do we have to care about the characters, but they have to be engaging. For a show like Love Is Blind, finding genuine individuals who want to explore the depths of the dating experiment is crucial. Recruiting via LinkedIn to fill a gap will destroy the experiment. While each season is geographically specific, the casting appears to detract from the series’ mission.

Maybe the casting team is being snowed by the prospective Pod Squad, who claim they’re all in on the experiment, but the number of individuals who prove to be looks-only and deal-breakers ruins the optimism the show once had. In the first two episodes, it was shocking to hear Chris tell Jessica that he needed more in the bedroom and explain how her physical attraction didn’t match the women he would be into. Jessica, a beautiful woman, cut ties because Chris’ admission was a slap in the face. But Chris wasn’t alone. Other participants doubled down on their shock when meeting their match based on physical appearance. It’s a trend that is taking over more and more each season.

‘Love Is Blind’s Mission Has Been Completely Lost

Not every couple is as fixated on physical appearances, thankfully. We have some incredible characters this season, including Emma Betsinger, who felt like her scarred arm from precancerous birthmarks on her body may have hurt her with dating in the past. She revealed to Mike Gibney that, as someone who was adopted, she was unsure of having kids because she didn’t know if her health history would affect them. Mike and Emma have had strong conversations about the family matter, which makes this experiment work. But the overwhelming chatter online continues to be about how the men on Love Is Blind this season are very fixated on appearances.

‘Love Is Blind’ Season 9 Is Incredibly Cringey for Many, Many Reasons

‘Love Is Blind’ Season 9’s couples are giving very strange energy.

While we have a celebratory couple in Christine Hamilton and Vic St. John — the most promising pair to head to the altar, who had a random solo honeymoon — the focus is not on the promise, but on the drama of the other couples. The Pod Squad’s meet-up once again led to individuals who did not pair up trying to break up established couples. (At least Bri McNees shut Chris down, even after he slid into her DMs.)

Netflix’s ‘Love Is Blind’ Needs One Stellar Season ASAP

Love Is Blind has a brilliant premise, but the show that it used to be is no longer what is being presented. The individuals the casting department pick must be pre-compatible. We know hard conversations about politics, faith, and family occur, but that part of the social experiment has become second fiddle. Gone are the days of our perfect couple, Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton.

Perhaps, instead of two seasons per calendar year, the focus should be on generating one solid season where “I do” actually happens. Coming off of Season 9’s marriage-less season, our anticipation of success is waning. Season 10 is once again leaning on the drama rather than the excitement of how we, as a society, can find our person sight unseen.

Before his demise, Carradine was working on what would be his last project, titled “The Driver,” AKA “Driving into Darkness.”

According to director Connie Lamothe, she felt something was wrong with the actor when he was absent from a table read days earlier.

Lamothe told TMZ she began seeing signs as far back as January when Carradine went “radio silent,” sparking great concerns from producers. No one knew about his whereabouts.

However, given his mental health struggles, a close friend in the cast suggested the late actor be given some space in the hopes he would return to the set. Unfortunately, that never happened.

Lamothe, who is devastated by the loss, recalled how excited the Hollywood veteran was about the crime drama where he played a mob boss.

NY Rangers’ Ron Duguay’s Family Launches GoFundMe Amid Cancer Battle

Published

on

The family of former New York Rangers legend Ron Duguay have launched a GoFundMe to raise funds amid the ice hockey player’s battle with cancer.

Created on Tuesday, February 24, by Duguay’s two daughters, Shay Thomas and Amber Stavros, whom he shares with ex-wife Robin Bobo, the GoFundMe page detailed that Duguay, 68, is flying from Florida to Orange County “every two weeks for ongoing” cancer treatment.

Speaking to Page Six on Tuesday, Duguay revealed that he “has been battling cancer for a year” after being diagnosed with “Stage 4 cancer which started in the colon.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Duguay for comment.

David Livingston/Getty Images Since going public with stage III non-Hodgkin lymphoma in November 2024, Dave Coulier has been candid about his illness, treatment and prognosis before his second diagnosis. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the patient’s lymphatic system, with “white blood cells called lymphocytes [that] grow abnormally and can form growths […]

According to the GoFundMe page, which lists Duguay as a “Co-organizer,” the athlete did not initiate the crowdfunding exercise. “Our dad has never been someone who asks for help … especially when it comes to money. He has always tried to handle everything on his own and didn’t want to burden anyone else with what he’s going through,” a description on the page read. “But after many conversations as a family, we decided to create this fundraiser for him because we’ve seen firsthand the weight this battle has placed on him, both physically and financially.”

At the time of publication, the initiative had raised nearly $21,000 from 114 donations. Its target was listed as $26,000.

The description also shed light on what Duguay has experienced in the wake of his diagnosis. It stated, “Because of his cancer, he hasn’t been able to work the way he normally would, yet he continues to fight with everything he has. Earlier in his treatment journey, the care he received in Florida nearly cost him his life. That led us to bring him to Orange County, where my sister and I live, so he could receive treatment here … and thankfully, it has helped him so far.”

John Stamos’ wife, Caitlin McHugh, is sharing a message of support for Dave Coulier amid his cancer battle. “While I do love how you use your experiences to help others, I sure hope God/the universe gives you a well-deserved break from it in the new year. ❤️❤️,” McHugh, 39, wrote in the comments section of […]

As for what the funds would specifically go towards, Duguay’s daughters provided further insight. “The cost of constant travel, along with medical care, holistic therapies, supplements, and alternative healing approaches he has committed to, has become extremely overwhelming financially,” the description continued, before noting that Duguay’s diagnosis is not slowing down.

“Recently, his cancer numbers have started to rise again, and while he continues his current treatments, we are now exploring additional treatment options outside of the United States in hopes of giving him the best possible chance,” the description read. “These treatments are very expensive and add another layer of financial strain during an already difficult time.”

Duguay, who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) including six seasons with the Rangers across two separate stints, told Page Six on Tuesday, “I find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I’m going through.” He added, “Normally I’m helping others.”

Duguay, who is currently dating former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, also told the outlet that cancer “sucks the life out of you” and has proven “so freaking costly” before offering an update on his battle.

“I am going to do all the alternatives, along with the Western medicine,” Duguay said. “What I am learning I will be able to share with others … I need to get better so I can help others.”

Duguay has been dating Palin, 62, since around 2022, with the athlete including glimpses of her in his social media posts over the years.

‘The Pitt’ Just Showed Us a Completely Different Side of the ER’s Most Polarizing Doctor in 2 Minutes

Published

on

Shawn Hatosy in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7

Editor’s note: The below contains spoilers for The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7 and mentions sexual abuse and self-harm.

Trinity Santos (Isa Briones) contains enough layers to rival the world’s largest onion. Her rocky first impression — blunt, arrogant, rushing into grisly procedures — contrasts with her strengths, which The Pitt dispenses over time: superb intuition, an eagle eye for valuable details, and staying level-headed during a crisis. It’s ironic that her abrasive demeanor divides The Pitt‘s viewers, since Santos wields that half-hostile, half-cavalier exterior as a shield. Season 1’s finale draws her painfully sensitive interior and innate tenderness into the open; by embracing the terrifying vulnerability she’s been habitually avoiding, Santos summons enough courage to open her home to Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and bare her heart to patient Max Wilcox (Aidan Laprete).

Circa Season 2, Santos remains her fluent-in-sarcasm self but boasts a smoother beside manner, a situationship of sorts with Dr. Yolanda Garcia (Alexandra Metz), and stable footing with her colleagues. That security vanishes thanks to an unrelentingly hellish day. As Santos nears her wits’ end in Episode 7, she stumbles into a touching stolen moment with a patient who, on paper, seems like the unlikeliest candidate to receive or provide comfort. The stolen moment spotlights her exemplary caretaker nature and reveals more wrenching context about why this woman moves through the world with wary, aching weariness.

‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Is Pushing Santos to Her Breaking Point

The Pitt‘s entire ensemble has positive qualities and flaws. Perfect heroes and evil villains need not apply, only messy humans who internalize their patients’ pain alongside their personal trauma. Trinity Santos, as tightly wound as a snapping rubber band on her best day, hasn’t exactly handled Season 2 with grace. Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) isn’t privy to the fact Santos carries the humiliating bruises Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) left, but it’s natural to assume a doctor in the trenches of her R2 year is overworked and overwhelmed. Even if Al-Hashimi’s motivations are well-meant, it’s unfair for Santos’ new superior to single her out with an unnecessary ultimatum.

Santos holds enough duality to sway between confidence and insecurity. Spiraling under pressure, it’s clearer than ever that her darkest enemies include perfectionism, self-hatred, and an acute fear of failure. Her private fears have been exposed under a microscope, and she can’t articulate this turmoil or channel it into an outlet. Her raw trauma responses keep her alive, but lashing out with incandescent fury is a habit to unlearn for the sake of her patients, her long-term health, and her loneliness — because, despite appearances, Santos longs for genuine connection. When she dares to cautiously reach out, she’s rebuffed back into an isolation born of her own making and people not bothering to look past her hidden daggers. She seems surprised when Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) reciprocates her concerns about Whitaker, but once she receives his empathetic ear, Santos abandons her normal pretenses.

‘The Pitt’s Shawn Hatosy Explains How Abbot’s “Unexpected” Arrival Shakes Up This Season

Hatosy and co-star Sepideh Moafi also discuss Al-Hashimi’s clash with Robby and the Season 1 moment that did Abbot dirty.

Even when she’s stretched too thin, Santos profoundly cares about the people for whom she’s responsible. When she suspects a father (Patrick Mulvey) of molesting his 9-year-old daughter, Kylie (Annabelle Toomey), an automatic switch activates the sheer range of her care: attentive, protective, impulsive, and ferocious enough to fight tooth-and-nail for Kylie’s wellfare, the consequences be damned. Given the anguishing implication that powerful men have violated more than Santos’ trust, Kylie spears her to the quick. Once Mel diagnoses Phylicia Ronson (Nyaling Marenah) with bulimia, Santos drops her dismissive impatience and offers compassionate support. Conversely, her frustration over her communication barriers with Harlow Graham (Jessica ‘Limer’ Flores), a symptom of the wider infrastructure’s inadequate disability accommodations, could never justify Santos’ dehumanizing treatment of Harlow. Combine her urgent profession with personal stressors, and the collision affects certain patients to the point of near-negligence.

Santos Singing to Baby Jane Doe in ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Episode 7 Reinforces Her Kindness

As for the mysterious abandoned baby, she couldn’t care less. To be fair, while the nurses can ignore ear-piercing wailing, it’s one strain too many for Santos’ overstimulated nerves. Forced to problem-solve, her unconventional gamble works as well as her spontaneous emergency hunches. The Pitt‘s expert in soft-hearted cynicism didn’t have this on her bingo card — soothing an infant with the Hiligaynon lullaby, “Ili-Ili, Tulog Anay.” When Baby Jane Doe seeks reassurance, her innocent hand latching onto Santos’ finger, a begrudgingly charmed Trinity drops her walls without resistance. She has nothing to hide from a newborn. For once, she can rest, focus, and just be herself — a caretaker remembering her purpose.

Santos’ serenade expands her innate softness onto a defenseless human. What’s more, the pair briefly relieving each other’s distress occurs when Santos most needs an anchor. Her innocuous deflection about therapy earlier in the season feels harrowing after glimpsing her self-harm scars. She’s a survivor with bared teeth and a fierce heart, but rather than soldier forward in unnoticed silence, she deserves safety, healing, and steadying mentors whose positive reinforcement and corrective accountability will empower her into a truly magnificent doctor.

Jennifer Garner is reflecting on her co-parenting relationship with Ben Affleck and the complexities that come with raising children after a divorce.

The “13 Going On 30” actress explained that she has had to play both roles as mom and dad, while also admitting that co-parenting with her ex-husband brings “a little bit of loss.”

Jennifer Garner previously opened up about how “hard” her split from Ben Affleck was, noting that the transition was particularly difficult but for the help of her family.

Garner has pulled back the curtain on the bittersweet reality of raising children, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, with her ex-husband Affleck.

The “Elektra” actress made the candid revelation in a recent episode of Bustle’s “One Nightstand” YouTube series, where she and host Charlotte Owen discussed the book, “Anne of Green Gables,” by Lucy Maud, and dove into the relationship between siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who adopted Anne Shirley by mistake.

Similar to the siblings, Owen asked Garner how she managed to find the balance in raising her children with intentionality and conscientiousness.

“I think that I do a bit of both,” she explained. “And I think my kids’ dad does too. Especially when your kids grow up in two separate households, I become mom and dad, and he becomes dad and mom.”
