The moment arrived just before Judy was the first contestant banished on the BBC series
The Traitors fans have crowned their ‘winner’ after one of the BBC programme’s contestants delivered what they said is the ‘quote of the series’.
Claudia Winkleman’s gameshow full of deception and lies is returned for its fourth series on New Year’s Day. It began with 22 contestants heading to the Scottish Highlands in hopes of winning up to £120,000 viewers.
For those who are catching up, the contestants are split into two groups, traitors and faithfuls. The traitors have to murder the faithfuls without coming under suspicion at the roundtable where one contestant is banished through a vote.
This year’s season has introduced a Secret Traitor, who traitors Hugo, Amanda and Stephen not the viewers know’s identity. The Secret Traitor is allowed to nominate three players to be murdered each night.
On Friday night (January 2), traitors were seen having to choose to murder either 38-year-old gardener James, 42-year-old nursery school teacher Netty or 59-year-old civil servant Maz. It was revealed that Hugo, Rachel and Stephen picked to kill off Netty.
An emotional Netty said after being murdered: “I’m so gutted, I think I would have been a really good faithful. Maybe I’ve been too good a faithful, too loud.
“Now my time is done. I don’t want to cry but I’m crying. I think they’re happy tears because it has been awesome. Good luck, faithfuls.”
The episode concluded with a heated roundtable discussion where child liaison officer Judy faced many accusations. Judy’s daughter Roxy could only sit and watch as her mum received the majority of votes and was eliminated.
Revealing her identity to the group, Judy said: “I’d just like to say you have been absolutely amazing, I’ve had an absolute blast. I’m just me. I am a faithful.”
Despite the emotion of seeing Roxy reacting to her mum being wrongfully accused of being a traitor, most viewers were left thinking about Amanda.
The retired 57-year-old police detective from Brighton has been trying to use her past job to get to the bottom of the mystery in the castle. During the roundtable, one faithful brought up that Amanda and Hugo may be traitors due to how close they are.
Responding to the claim, Amanda said: “It’s lovely that you think we are together or whatever, but we’re not. I’m a lesbian.” Bursting into laughter, Hugo said: “So I’m not sure if I’m your type.”
Those watching the episode at home rushed to Twitter, previously known as X, about why they may now be rooting for Amanda to win the show after making the entire roundtable laugh in the middle of a tense moment.
@superTV247 said: “’I’m a lesbian’ being a defence mechanism at the very first round table #TheTraitors.” @emilyroseon added: “The quote of the series . I’m not a traitor don’t suspect me because i’m a lesbian #TheTraitors #TraitorsUK #Traitors.”
@MadelynSmedley wrote: “My fave moment so far from our chief constable.” @danidelle23 posted: “Amanda is such a queen, Amanda to win #TheTraitors.”
@francescajayne_ commented: “Amanda choosing to “hide” that she’s a former police detective and then proceeding to engage in the most stereotypical police detective behaviour you’ve ever seen.” @RoseNyborg stated: “Amanda casually revealing she’s a lesbian icon. #TheTraitors.”
