All of the Darlington road closures and works this weekend

A series of roadworks will take place across Darlington, affecting key routes including Smithfield Road, Northumberland Street, Coniscliffe Road, Stanhope Road South, Harrison Terrace, North Road, Lowson Street North Back, Harrowgate Village, Beaumont Hill, and Snackgate Lane in Heighington.

Works are being carried out by Northern Gas Networks, Northumbrian Water, and Darlington, with a focus on utility repairs, maintenance, and highway improvements.

We have mapped the roadworks you should be aware of:

On Smithfield Road, near the railway bridge, Northern Gas Networks will close the road from November 21 to December 2.

The closure is to allow for urgent utility repair and maintenance works, specifically to attend, excavate, and repair a gas escape.

Northumberland Street will also be closed from November 20 to November 24 for utility repair and maintenance works by Northumbrian Water.

The works involve excavating on an existing valve chamber to repair a valve.

Coniscliffe Road in Larchfield will see two-way traffic signals in place between November 18 and November 28.

Northern Gas Networks will be attending, excavating, and repairing a gas emergency on Footway No. 55.

Stanhope Road South will be closed on November 23 for utility asset works by Northumbrian Water.

The closure will be in place for sewer cleansing and CCTV works between MH3405 adjacent to number 77 and MH4304 adjacent to Garden View Raydalside.

No excavation is planned as part of these works.

Harrison Terrace and Trafalgar Terrace Back Street will also be closed from November 20 to November 24.

Northumbrian Water will be excavating to locate and repair a leak on the main at the rear of 40 Harrison Terrace.

On November 22, multi-way traffic signals will be in operation at the junction of North Road, Zetland Street, and Askrigg Street.

Northumbrian Water will be excavating on an existing stop tap chamber to renew the cover.

The signals are expected to be in place for the day.

Lowson Street North Back, at the rear of 16 Lowson Street, will be closed from November 18 to December 5 for highway repair and maintenance works.

Darlington will be repairing setts in the back lane.

Long-term closures are also in place on Harrowgate Village and Beaumont Hill for highway improvement works linked to a new development.

Both roads will be closed from March 31 to March 27, 2026, as part of S278 works.

The closures run from Dewberry Lane to the Village Hall in Harrowgate Village, and from Dewberry Lane to 25 Beaumont Hill.

Snackgate Lane in Heighington will be closed from November 17 to November 28 for utility repair and maintenance works by Northumbrian Water.

The works involve excavating to carry out sewer repairs and reinstatement outside 13 Snackgate Lane.
