The Newsnight presenter, who is married to producer Mark Sandell, is the mother of sons Oliver, 20, and Joe, 17, but revealed she had been pregnant once before.

She shared on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast that they think fondly about the idea of having had a sister.

Victoria told host Giovanna Fletcher: “We had a miscarriage first, that was very upsetting.

“I’m a talker, I talk about everything. I’m very open. Maybe it’s partly because of the way I was brought up. We talked to my mum about all the c**p that was going on.”

“That was one thing I couldn’t talk about for about five years; it was so odd, I could not speak about it.”

Describing the traumatic moment, she said: “I actually had the miscarriage on a plane. I was so practical and pragmatic.”

“I was like, ‘Well this is happening now and I’m going to work,’ and I just carried on. It’s absolutely bizarre.”

Victoria has worked on television news and political programmes including the BBC News Channel, Watchdog, Newsnight and Panorama

Throughout her career, she has been a vocal campaigner against domestic abuse

Before her father Anthony’s death in 2020, the TV star bravely recounted the horrific trauma she suffered at his hands.

Victoria Derbyshire breaks down in tears as she visits domestic violence memorial

Victoria alleged that he threw “scalding soup” over her as a child and put his hands around her throat – claims he died.

Also in 2020, she was praised when she hosted BBC News while having the domestic abuse helpline on her hand.

She told the newspaper telling her story “doesn’t bring up trauma” and said domestic abuse can happen to anyone.

“And it’s nothing to do with class or your job or money. If it helps to talk about it, then absolutely, I’ll talk.”

The interview was granted to newspaper to raise awareness of a new campaign called Brick By Brick that aims to raise £300,000 for a new type of Refuge to help those fleeing domestic violence.

While on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020, Victoria also candidly opened up about her gruelling cancer battle.

During an episode of the popular show, Victoria and EastEnders star Jessica Plummer had a “frank and honest” conversation about her devastating cancer diagnosis.

Victoria also opened up about the shocking side effect of her diagnosis – that she and her husband “could barely speak” to each other.

She told Jessica: “We are talkers, we are open, we are you know, and we just had no words because honestly all I was thinking was I’m going to die.

“Seriously, I’m going to die. And then, I thought I’m not going to see my boys grow up, I’m not going to grow old with Mark, I mean it was just, I just thought my luck’s run out, you know.”

What is miscarriage and why do pregnancies fail?

MISCARRIAGE is generally the death of an unborn baby in the first 24 weeks – approximately six months – of pregnancy.

Miscarriages may not be spoken about a lot but they are very common. Baby loss charity Tommy’s estimates there are at least 250,000 per year in the UK and that one in every five pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

It may not be clear why a miscarriage happens but they are rarely caused by anything done by the mother or father. Usually the embryo has a random genetic defect that means it cannot develop properly.

Most women can go on to successfully have healthy babies in the future.

The NHS says most miscarriages cannot be prevented but avoiding smoking, alcohol and drugs while pregnant can reduce the risk.

Some of the other most common reasons for a pregnancy to fail in the first 24 weeks are ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy is where a fertilised egg implants somewhere outside of the womb, usually in a fallopian tube. It cannot survive and grow there so either dies naturally or must be terminated.

Molar pregnancy is rarer but happens when a fertilised egg and/or placenta does not develop properly at the start of a pregnancy. There is no single reason why it happens and cannot be prevented, though it may be more common in very young or old mothers.

A baby who dies after 24 weeks is considered a stillbirth.

Lamorne Morris reveals he struggled with ‘wild bout of depression’ during iconic New Girl episode

Lamorne Morris has detailed his underlying depression during his TV career.

The New Girl actor, 41, who starred in the much loved sit-com alongside Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Zooey Deschanel, admitted he particularly struggled while filming the series “Prince” episode, which guest starred the “Kiss” singer, who played himself.

In the episode, Deschanel’s character Jess is invited to a party at Prince’s house, which Morris’ character Winston and the rest of their housemates also blag their way into.

Despite dubbing the episode as one of his “favourite” New Girl instalments from the seven season show, Morris admitted it was the “worst episode to film” due to his mental health struggles.

Speaking on Podcrushed, the actor explained: “I just remember doing a scene, then going in my trailer and just crying for no reason.”

Morris revealed he struggled to identify why his mood was low because “everything was going great” in his life and he wanted to be grateful.

“Work was going great. Everybody was healthy in my family. It was like, ‘What am I complaining about?’” he said. “I didn’t know. I couldn’t pinpoint it to anything.”

It was only when Morris’ then-girlfriend helped him change his diet, cooked him healthy foods and made him “fresh juice in the morning” that Morris noticed his mood had “shifted”.

The actor shared that he also started going on hikes and being more active. “Before I know it, those [depressive] days are over,” he said.

Morris added that he can now look back on working with Prince, who died two years after appearing on New Girl, with fondness.

“There was so much fanfare around it and so much mystique around him,” he said. “And when you meet him, you’re like, ‘I see why. This man is illuminating. And he’s got so many tassels and zippers.’”

The Fargo star continued: “He was so nice and just soft-spoken and very kind and gentle in the way he would talk to people. So that was a really cool experience.”

Back in September, Morris spoke about the possibility of a New Girl reunion at the 2024 Emmy Awards, claiming his co-star Johnson was the only reason it hadn’t already taken place.

“Everybody is on the same page that we want to, except for Jake Johnson,” he joked. “Jake Johnson, man, you’ve been a problem.

“We all love the fans so much that we want to give them what they want. What’s wrong, Jake? You don’t love the fans?” Morris questioned.

“Jake Johnson hates the fans!”

MAGA supporter sparks outrage for projecting Punisher logo with Trump’s hair on water tower

A MAGA supporter has sparked outrage in a Massachusetts town for projecting an edited version of The Punisher skull logo wearing Donald Trump’s hair.

The day after the Republican nominee triumphed in the 2024 election, an image associated with the popular comic book character topped with the president-elect’s well-known hairstyle was displayed on a water tower in the Town of Hanson.

Bright floodlights have since been brought in to illuminate the tower and prevent the orange logo from being visible.

“Earlier today, the Town of Hanson discontinued measures put in place to block a political image being projected onto a Town-owned water tower,” Town Administrator Lisa Green said in a statement on Wednesday (November 6), according to local news channel NBC10 Boston.

“Regrettably, the party involved in the image projection resumed projecting today and as a result we have had to yet again take measures to block the projected image.”

In October, the same resident, who officials have not publicly identified, had projected a “Trump 2024” sign on the water tower.

The resident was reportedly sent a cease and desist letter at the time by officials for violating town bylaws, which prohibit “the display of political symbols or signage on government property” as the town “does not endorse any political candidate, party or platform in any election.”

While the resident is said to have agreed to take down the initial “Trump 2024” signage, they refused to sign a pledge agreeing not to project onto the water tower again.

“The Town is duty-bound to enforce those bylaws and is committed to taking whatever action is necessary to prevent future violations,” Green added.

The small town, located 20 miles south of Boston, skewed red in the 2024 presidential election, with Trump receiving 54.7 percent of the votes compared to 43.5 percent for Vice President Kamala Harris, per official election results.

The menacing skull logo made popular by the Marvel Punisher comics has in recent years been embraced by far-right extremist groups, including white nationalists and the neo-fascist Proud Boys.

It was a symbol worn by several January 6 rioters who stormed The Capitol following the 2020 presidential election.

It is also an emblem adopted by police who opposed Black Lives Matter protestors in 2020. The Punisher creator Gerry Conway later encouraged fans to help him reclaim the symbol.

“I’m looking for young comic-book artists of color who’d like to participate in a small fundraising project for #BLM to reclaim the Punisher skull as a symbol of justice rather than lawless police oppression,” Conway tweeted in June 2020.

“As to the debate over whether the Punisher symbol can ever be a symbol for justice – I agree that’s an open question,” he added.

“What it must *not* be is a symbol of oppression. I want to deny police the use of the symbol by claiming it for BLM. Call it irony.”

On the show, Polly and Adam’s relationship has been fraught with arguments with Adam admitting Polly isn’t his type and Polly wanting more affection from him.

Things were better between the couple after Polly’s home stay and the two appeared much happier.

Wednesday night’s episode of MAFS showed the couple enjoying a picnic on their final date and exchanging gifts.

However, it wasn’t long before the two were fighting again and throwing insults.

After the couple cheered to the future, things quickly went wrong when Polly told Adam how she was really feeling.

She fumed: “I feel like you’re not giving me what I want..”

This quickly escalated into a huge argument with Adam commentating: “The old Polly is back”

At this point, it is unknown whether they will remain a couple and marry during Final Vows.

However Polly shared a beautiful tribute to Adam on Instagram that has fans convinced they’ve split up.

The post features a photo of the couple on their wedding day and Polly says: ” I can’t believe I’m writing this because I genuinely didn’t think we’d get here. It’s final dates!

Watch shock moment MAFS UK’s Polly rips into Adam as blazing row kicks off on final date – in huge clue only ONE couple will make it to final episode

“I just want to say to Adam more than anyone thank you from the bottom of my heart for going through this incredible, once in a lifetime journey with me.

“There really is no one else I’d of wanted to do it with. As much as I wound you up, frustrated you, irritated you, I did also make you laugh, be more vulnerable, smile, be goofy and laugh at all your jokes (some that weren’t even funny )

“I am incredibly proud of Adam’s journey as well because I think it’s clear to everyone boy I pushed that man and he worked at it. But I am also very proud of myself.

“I have worked on things I’ve had troubles with for many years and still battling them now on a daily basis as they’re not just relationship based, they’re deeper than that.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

“But to be working on them slowly but surely is better than being ignorant to it.

“Please also remember what you order on your tv’s every night doesn’t even come CLOSE to what we were doing, filming, talking about every day.

“Adam said in his vows that it would be a rollercoaster and my god it has been. But I’d certainly queue again.

She concluded by saying: “Will final vows make us realise what we’ve got or will we crumble at the last hurdle?”

Fans were quick to comment how lovely a couple they were and shower Polly with support but others believed it was a sign that they had split up.

One fan wrote: “One of my favourite couples, but I’m thinking from the way you worded that, that you arnt together now”

Another said: “Ahhhh maaa goodness me! This post you and Adam separate or together ! Mad about you both ! Can’t wait to see it all unfold!”

A third added: “I don’t think you will make it but I so hope I’m wrong!”

But Polly replied: “it’s a reflective post haha, doesn’t give anything away but thank you xx”

In the upcoming episode of Married at First Sight fans will discover the couple’s future for themselves as they take their final vows.

Jay Leno praises Trump win as a ‘great day for democracy’

Jay Leno has shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 US presidential election, calling the results “a great day for democracy.”

The former Tonight Show host appeared on the CBS daytime show The Talk on Wednesday (November 6), the same day the former president declared victory over the Democratic nominee. Trump surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, as well as more than 50 percent of the popular vote.

“The nice thing about this election is it was fair, it was honest,” Leno told co-host Natalie Morales. “I was not a fan, but that’s okay. It’s the president of the United States, let’s all get together, thank you very much.”

“There was no cheating, everybody says it was honest,” he added, seemingly referring to Trump’s repeated claims that President Joe Biden’s victory in 2020 was stolen from him. “It’s a great day for democracy.”

Elsewhere during Leno’s appearance, he reflected on his days hosting NBC’s The Tonight Show, from 1992 to 2009. The 74-year-old comedian claimed “it was different in my day” to host following an election because “you kind of made fun of both sides.”

“You got angry letters from both sides. Now you kind of have to take a side,” Leno admitted.

On Wednesday evening, late night hosts didn’t hold back their disappointment over Trump’s reelection to a second term in the White House. Jimmy Kimmel struggled to hold back tears at the start of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as he emphasized Trump’s 34 felony counts handed down earlier this year.

“We chose the criminal,” Kimmel said. “More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged.”

While Kimmel found time for comedy, he grew emotional when he said: “It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.”

He continued: “It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on social security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the truth, and democracy and decency.

“And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too – you just don’t realize it yet.”

Jimmy Fallon opted to roast Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, over their return to the White House as he joked that Americans had “decided to get back with their crazy ex.”

“No matter who you voted for, I think all Americans can agree it’s going to be a rough Thanksgiving,” he said on The Tonight Show. “Of course, Trump’s already super busy. First, he’s got to move all those classified documents back into the White House.

“Republicans were thrilled until they realized there is going to be four more years of Melania’s Christmas decorations.”

Meanwhile, The Daily Show host Desi Lydic simply had a five-word question for voters who elected the country’s first convicted felon as president: “What the actual f***, America?”
