Rangers Open to Offers for Danilo After Danny Rohl Snub vs Celtic
Rangers are open to selling Danilo in the January transfer window after the striker has failed to convince Danny Rohl, according to reports.
The Ibrox side are anticipating a busy first market under the German tactician as they look to boost their chances of lifting the Premiership title with new signings. While talks are already ongoing regarding new arrivals, some players will have to make way, and Danilo appears to be among those available for departure this month.
The Brazilian forward was an unused substitute in Rangers’ 3-1 win over Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Saturday, which saw Rohl’s side mount a stunning second-half comeback.
Rangers Open to Selling Danilo
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers are open to offers for Danilo in January amid emerging plans to re-sign Josh Windass following his departure from Wrexham.
The Ibrox side are keen on the 31-year-old attacking midfielder’s return, but for any permanent move to come to fruition, Rangers would reportedly first have to reduce their current wage bill.
Danilo’s departure would be a step in that direction, as the Brazilian has failed to convince at Rangers since his £6m move from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2023. The 26-year-old forward, who has been dubbed ‘exciting’, has scored just twice in 12 Premiership appearances this season and failed to find the back of the net in five Europa League games.
In his 72 appearances for Rangers to date, the forward has registered 15 goals and 10 assists, including four goal contributions this season.
Danny Rohl Pushing for First Signing
Rangers are advancing with plans to sign AEK Athens defender James Penrice on loan this month, according to reports.
The Ibrox side are reportedly keen on landing the former Hearts defender on a temporary deal, just six months after he joined the Greek side on a three-year contract.
Rohl has reportedly earmarked a new left-back as a priority this month and, as a result, Rangers have reignited their interest in Penrice. The 27-year-old was targeted by the Premiership club last summer following his standout season at Hearts, when he was named Player of the Year.
Rangers’ 3-1 win over Celtic saw them maintain their impressive form under Rohl, with the Ibrox side avoiding defeat in 10 of their 11 league games since the German tactician’s arrival.
Rangers’ only league defeat under Rohl came last month, a 2-1 loss to league leaders Hearts, who sit six points clear after 20 games.
