The official full-length trailer for an upcoming Netflix film has been released and it stars a number of huge Hollywood names

Netflix has just dropped the full official trailer for a highly anticipated crime thriller featuring Hollywood A-listers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Set for release in 2026, the film centres on a group of Miami police officers who stumble upon millions of dollars hidden in an abandoned property.

Following their discovery, tensions escalate within the team as trust begins to crumble, whilst external threats emerge once word spreads about the find, leaving uncertainty about who can be trusted. Discussing the film, Matt Damon explained: “In Miami, you have to count the money on-site, so that everybody knows how much is there.

“They know that it’s almost certainly cartel money that belongs to very dangerous people who are probably going to come get it. They’re on the clock, and they have to start thinking of defending where they are because they can’t just leave.” Titled The Rip, the film launches worldwide on Netflix on January 16.

Ben Affleck elaborated on the storyline, saying: “It begs the question: What do you do when faced with this massive temptation? What does that mean? What’s it like to see that up close? And then also, who do you trust?” Within minutes of its release, the official trailer racked up thousands of views, with eager viewers rushing to the comments section to share their initial reactions.

As a big fan of their work, I’m very excited to see them.” @bigtable posted: “This is going to be insane.” The preview depicts officers from Miami Police Department arriving at a derelict property, where they stumble upon a substantial sum of money concealed in a bucket during their investigation.

Keen to avoid drawing attention to the “rip”, they each contemplate what they might do with such an extraordinary haul. Based on actual events, Netflix has hinted at how each character’s principles come under scrutiny as they weigh up pocketing the money for personal gain. The preview suggests that “trust has a price”, but who will ultimately bear the cost?

The movie also features The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun, alongside Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, Kyle Chandler, Néstor Carbonell and Lina Esco. The Rip was initially revealed in June 2024, with production taking place across Los Angeles and New Jersey.

The initial teaser for the film was unveiled in September, followed by another glimpse on Christmas Day. Director Joe Carnahan previously discussed his experience working with Affleck and Damon, who also serve as executive producers on the film, stating: “Working with Matt and Ben and having two, distinctly talented filmmakers, as both creative allies and the studio heads, wound up being the best of both worlds.

“I’ve never had as easy an experience on a movie as I had on The Rip. They took exceptionally good care of me and backed my decisions every step of the way.” Damon and Affleck, who first met as neighbours in Massachusetts, quickly formed a strong friendship and have since starred together in several films. Their joint filmography includes Good Will Hunting, Dogma, The Last Duel and Air.

The official synopsis for The Rip reads: “Trust frays when a team of Miami cops discovers millions in cash inside a run-down stash house, calling everyone — and everything — into question.”
