Wales will take 'ugly win' against Fiji, says assistant coach Jonathan Humphreys

Assistant coach Jonathan Humphreys says Wales would take any sort of win against Fiji in Cardiff on Sunday.

Wales have not won a Test match since the 2023 World Cup pool triumph against Georgia more than a year ago and are just one loss away from equalling the nation’s worst losing sequence of 10, under Steve Hansen between 2002 and 2003.

Conor Benn: British fighter has provisional suspension lifted after two-year battle

Conor Benn: British fighter has provisional suspension lifted after two-year battle

Benn was initially suspended from boxing in March 2023 after he failed two voluntary tests for clomifene before his cancelled bout with fellow Briton Chris Eubank Jr.

The pair were scheduled to meet on 8 October 2022 at a catchweight of 157lb, around 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought. Eubank Sr won the first fight in 1990, while the 1993 rematch was declared a draw.

Clomifene can be used to boost testosterone levels in men, and is banned inside and outside competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).

BBBofC general secretary Robert Smith said Benn was provisionally barred from participating in any capacity in a competition organised, convened, authorised or recognised by his organisation.

Benn has always insisted he is innocent of intentionally doping. He has blamed “contamination” for the findings. His defence outlined there was a fault with the Vada testing laboratory.

An independent report by the WBC in February 2023 said his failed drugs test was not intentional and could have been caused by a “highly-elevated consumption” of eggs, but Benn was still under investigation by Ukad and the BBBofC.

NADP lifted the suspension last July and Benn believed he was free to fight in the UK again.

However, appeals made by Ukad and the BBBofC against that decision were upheld in May.

Speaking to BBC Sport in October, promoter Hearn said Benn had been “penalised by his resistance to accept guilt” and that his fighter would be fighting in the UK sooner had he taken a ban handed to him following the failed test.

“For me, knowing and believing he is innocent, to see what he has had to go through over the past two years is pretty brutal,” Hearn said.

“Unfortunately because of the way the process has played out, he’s ruffled feathers with the authorities and he hasn’t played ball.

“They would have liked to tidy the situation up quickly but he wanted to appeal, explore and provide his reasoning and evidence.”

Benn has fought twice in the United States with the most recent in February a unanimous points win over Peter Dobson in a welterweight contest in Las Vegas.

Had he accepted guilt and a subsequent ban in the UK, however, it is unlikely American athletic commissions – who tend to side with sanctions handed to fighters by their international counterparts – would have allowed Benn to compete in the country.

Lucas Almeida out of UFC 309 fight with David Onama

David Onama needs a new opponent for next week’s UFC 309 after Lucas Almeida was forced off the card due to undisclosed reasons, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting.

UFC 309 will take place at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 16, and the promotion is currently seeking a replacement to fight the Ugandan featherweight on just over a week’s notice.

Onama (12-2) hopes to keep the momentum going after back-to-back wins over Gabriel Santos — a bonus-winning second-round knockout in Jacksonville, Fla. — and Jonathan Pearce, a bout he missed weight for.

Almeida (15-3) was looking to compete for the first time since signing a new UFC contract following a decision victory over Timmy Cuamba this past June, rebounding from stoppage defeats to Pat Sabatini and Andre Fili.

UFC 309 will air live on pay-per-view and feature Jon Jones’ first defense of the heavyweight belt against former champion Stipe Miocic in the main event.

Arsenal Women: Gunners forced to move Women’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich

Arsenal Women: Gunners forced to move Women's Champions League tie against Bayern Munich

The Spurs game against United will be televised on Thursday, 19 December.

Arsenal are now exploring alternatives with European governing body Uefa for the Bayern tie. This includes moving the fixture to Meadow Park in Borehamwood, where they play the majority of their Women’s Super League matches.

However, Meadow Park’s facilities do not currently meet Uefa regulations so there would need to be some flexibility.

It is unclear where the ground fails to meet the regulations but Uefa’s rules state requirements on a range of things, including pitch heating and covers, grass height, floodlights, goalpost structures, pitch surrounding areas, artificial pitches and frequency of pitch watering.

There is no video assistant referee (VAR) or goalline technology requirements in the group stages of the Women’s Champions League.

It is an uncomfortable situation for Arsenal, given they have made a point of making Emirates Stadium the main home for their women’s team.

BBC Sport has contacted Uefa for a response.

Champions League LIVE SCORES: Aston Villa LOSING, Harry Kane's Bayern in action later, PSG vs Atletico - latest updates

Penalty incident explained

Emi Martinez stood over a goal kick, which he passed out to Tyrone Mings.

The centre-half then picked up the ball, as if to place back down to take the goal kick himself.

The referee, however, deemed Martinez to have taken the goal kick already, therefore deeming that Mings handballed!

Following a quick VAR check the call was confirmed, much to Unai Emery’s bewilderment.

But what a bizarre penalty incident…

PENALTY! Disaster for Mings!

This is a controversial one… Club Brugge have a penalty!

Second halves underway!

Proceedings in Belgium and Germany have recommenced!

Who will break the deadlock in Bruges?

And can Young Boys find a way back against Shakhtar?

From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium

Villa made it to half-time intact but, despite enjoying more than 60 per cent of possession, they have ridden their luck at times with Brugge rattling off five shots on target to the visitors’ one.

One player in the Brugge ranks looks a stand-out as 20-year-old Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordonez is handling Ollie Watkins well and looks comfortable on the ball coming forward.

I suspect we might just see him in the Prem one day.

Meanwhile it’s time for Unai Emery to work his magic during a crucial half-time team-talk.

Former England star unimpressed

Darren Anderton clearly didn’t enjoy that first half…

Moselle Open: Cameron Norrie beats Luca van Assche to reach quarter-finals

Britain’s Cameron Norrie beat Luca van Assche at the Moselle Open to reach his first ATP Tour quarter-final since April.

Norrie, who spent almost three months out with a forearm injury, beat the Frenchman 6-3 3-6 6-1.

It is the first time the 29-year-old has registered back-to-back wins on the main ATP Tour since Wimbledon in July.

World number 57 Norrie has not won an ATP title this season, having struggled for rhythm before the injury that led to him pulling out of the Olympics and the US Open.

His last quarter-final showing was on the Barcelona Open clay courts, where he lost to Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

“I’m just trying to enjoy the last week of the year for me competing,” Norrie told Sky Sports.

“I’m here another day, which is great, but I’ll have to improve my level to keep going further in the tournament.”

He will face Belgium’s Zizou Bergs for a place in the semi-finals.
