All the high street chains closing their doors for two days this Christmas
MORE retail stores are shutting shop on Boxing Day during the holidays to give their staff that extra days rest.
Thousands of well known shops are closing down for two days over Christmas, despite excitement around Boxing Day sales.
On the 25th, the big names stores traditionally close to allow staff to spend time with their loved ones.
Now they may be getting an extra day to celebrate with many shoppers having to hold on before hitting the winter sales.
The bank holiday has notoriously held some of the biggest sales of the year, with department stores packed full of those looking out for some discounted goodies.
In order to not miss out on Boxing Day disappointment make sure to check ahead before hitting the high street.
Here are the stores that have confirmed they are closing on December 26.
Aldi
Get your bargain groceries in now because Aldi will be shutting on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year.
Aldi UK communications director Richard Thornton said: “Christmas is such a special period for many of our colleagues, and by keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, Aldi gives them more time to spend with their loved ones.
“Customers will have plenty to look forward to in the run-up to Christmas, with exciting Christmas ranges hitting shelves in time for the festive season.”
It’s not the first time Aldi has closed on Boxing Day – the discounter has been doing so for the past few years.
The Range and Wilko
These two beloved chains have announced they will be shutting on the 25 and 26 of December.
Retailers The Range and Wilko, owned by CDS Stores, implemented the double closure last year.
Chief executive officer for CDS Alex Simpkin said: “This year’s been another great one for the business.
“We’re grateful to all our incredible team for their dedication and hard work and believe everyone deserves a well-earned rest during the festive season.
“So, in appreciation, we’ll be closing our stores on Boxing Day to give our team the opportunity to enjoy a full two-day break with their families.”
Home Bargains
The popular discount chain is closing all of its 600 UK store on Boxing Day this year.
To let their staff make the most of the holidays they will also be closing at 5pm on Christmas Eve instead of the usual 8pm or 9pm.
It will also be closed on New Years Day.
A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year.
“Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones.
“Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”
John Lewis and Waitrose
The John Lewis Partnership exclusively told The Sun is will be shut on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as will the majority of Waitrose stores.
There are more than 300 Waitrose shops and 33 John Lewis sites that will be closed, with only a few remaining open on the 26.
Only John Lewis shops within the Trafford and Stratford shopping centres will remain open.
Waitrose and The John Lewis Partnership closed most of their stores for these dates last year.
Homebase
The home improvement retailer will shut all its branches on Boxing Day.
Homebase confirmed to The Sun that the 142 stores will close for a full 48 to allow staff time with the friends and family’s.
A spokesperson for the DIY Giant said: “We’ll once again be closing our stores on Boxing Day so our team can enjoy time with their friends and family over the festive period.”

For some retailers, the cost of opening on Boxing Day, including staffing and operational expenses, may not be justified by the expected sales revenue, especially if customer footfall is low.
With the rise of online shopping, some retailers may focus on online sales and promotions rather than opening physical stores on Boxing Day.
For some businesses, it may also be a long-standing tradition for them to remain closed on Boxing Day.
From a practical perspective, the day after Christmas can be used for inventory checks, restocking, and preparing for post-Christmas sales.
This can be more effectively done without the distraction of serving customers

‘I took 10 packs’, Sainsbury’s fans cheer as pack of biscuits with a twist scans for just 16p at checkouts
HAPPY shoppers raced to fill their baskets with a popular biscuit scanning for just 16p.
Sainsbury’s fans were delighted to find the sweet treats on the shelves for an incredible price.
The mega discount had been applied to the supermarket giant’s own brand Brain Filled Bournons.
Despite Halloween having passed, the chocolate goodies are still perfectly tasty any time of year.
The helpful information was posted in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.
“Sainsbury’s Weymouth, not with other biscuits, just in a Halloween section at back of store along with reduced sweets etc…stocked up for work staff room (if they make it that far)”, shared an excited shopper.
Another customer shared: “I took 10 packs into work and everyone ate them and said they were nice!”
“I think they’re lovely, normal bourbon biscuit and strawberry filling,” said someone else.
A third suggested: “Ours had the cola for 16p as well today in Hereford.”
“The biscuits taste nice, strawberry filling more suited to adult taste buds but I find that with standard bourbon biscuits anyway,” added a fourth.
“I bought them and I liked them,” said another.
The 150g packets of mixed berry flavour cream filled chocolate biscuits usually cost 65p.
Fans have hailed the Halloween candy, one said: “I bought these for Halloween, however my grandchildren scoffed the lot before we arrived home.”
Another wrote: “Fun, lighthearted, but tasty biscuits…ideal for Halloween or with a refreshing beverage.”
However do bear in mind that when prices are reduced by this much it’s usually in order for stores to clear excess stock, so availability will vary from store to store.
It’s always best to phone ahead to your local shop to check what they have available to avoid disappointment.

It always pays to compare prices so you know you’re getting the best deal.

It comes as Sainsbury’s shoppers were also rushing to their local store to pick up an eight-pack of a popular fizzy drink which is scanning for just 25p.
Bargain hunters have been getting excited about the deal which could see them make a significant saving.
They took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to let others know.
Posting a picture of their haul of four eight-can packs along with the receipt, they wrote: “Eight can packs of Diet Coke is 25p at Sainsbury’s”.
The supermarket giant also recently launched their new winter clothes collection with budget-friendly pieces.
And, getting into the Christmas spirit, the superstore has dropped the price of the Baileys to £10 for a whole litre.
How to save money on your supermarket shop
THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.
You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.
If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.
Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.
Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.
This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.
Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.
For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.
If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.
Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

Lidl launches Coca-Cola Christmas Truck rival – see the full list of locations and exact dates you can get freebies
DISCOUNT retailer Lidl is launching its very own cola-themed Christmas truck for the first time.
The supermarket chain is taking the giant 15 tonne lorry on tour, visiting nine locations across Great Britain ahead of Christmas.
The truck, set to rival Coca-Cola’s own HGV, will stop off at Dundee on November 14 first, before a final stop in Southampton on December 1.
The Freeway Truck will be giving out 2,000 present boxes containing a host of Lidl’s famous “middle aisle” products at the nine locations.
You’ll have to be quick, though, as they are being handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
One in 10 of the present boxes will contain a “Golden Ticket” too – a coupon worth £100 that can be redeemed via its Lidl Plus loyalty app.
Customers not signed up to the app can download it for free on to their smartphone via Google Play or the Apple App Store.
It’s worth noting that the £100 voucher coupons can’t be used to buy alcohol, infant formula or gift cards.
Lidl will also be handing out festive food from the lorry, alongside a giant gift box and Lidl van.
The supermarket chain said visitors to the truck can also make a “wish” for something they want this Christmas, with the retailer granting a number of them.
We have asked Lidl what type of middle aisle items will be in the present boxes and what types of “wishes” customers can ask for, and will update this story when we have heard back.
The full list of locations the truck will visit, and the dates it will arrive there are as follows:

- Harrogate – November 16
- Hull – November 17
- Nottingham – November 21
- Wolverhampton – November 23
- Wrexham – November 24
- Luton – November 28
- Bournemouth – November 30

The truck will be at the above locations from 12pm to 6pm, with shoppers able to track the route via www.lidl.co.uk/freeway_tour.
Those not so keen on popping down to the Lidl cola truck may be able to visit Coca-Cola‘s lorry that’s set to head out on its own tour.
The iconic red vehicle, which first appeared in a 1995 festive ad, is travelling around towns and cities across Great Britain before Christmas.
The 2024 tour promises to be “bigger and better than ever” and will be set in a magical winter wonderland.
Visitors will be able to take part in festive games and have a spin of a lucky dip which will give them a chance to win Coca-Cola merch.
A food truck will also serve up seasonal food and ice-cold Coca-Cola Zero Sugar drinks.
Locations have not yet been revealed for where the truck is heading, nor the dates it will get there.
However, last year it stopped at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gateshead, Liverpool and Manchester.
CHRISTMAS AT LIDL
Lidl has already released its Christmas 2024 ad, which tells the story of a little girl who shares her woolly hat with a boy who looks cold.
The supermarket said the central theme of the ad is the magic of sharing.
The clip also features the return of Lidl Toy Banks, which is collecting and distributing more than 100,000 toys donated by customers to children in need this Christmas.
The retailer has also launched a dupe of a £20 Elf on the Shelf selling for just £2.99.
How to save money on Christmas shopping

They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.

M&S profits soar after revival in men’s suits pulls in more shoppers in their 20s and 30s
A REVIVAL in men’s suits has helped Marks & Spencer fashion a dramatic comeback.
Its profits jumped by a fifth as both food and clothing sales rose.
Boss Stuart Machin said 670,000 new shoppers had been tempted by its menswear ranges, as advertised by Mark Wright and Spencer Matthews, over the past six weeks.
He reported it had sold one million suits so far this year as more workers returned to offices after the pandemic and wanted a smarter look.
And he claimed the average age of its menswear customers had fallen by a decade as it was now winning more shoppers in their mid-20s and 30s.
He said: “Our menswear is getting better. I was wearing our £60 sell-out bomber jacket at the weekend and a friend thought it was Prada.
The chief exec, wearing head-to-toe M&S gear including Supima briefs, said it had been working on becoming more stylish.
Mr Machin, 54, added: “I wear my suit straight off the rack and, I shouldn’t say this, but former CEOs used to have theirs altered.”
Despite half-year profits of £391.9million, Mr Machin warned the high street giant faced a £120million hit from increased National Insurance and the minimum wage rise.
However, he said he had no intention of putting up prices.

AN incredible hoard of rare toy cars has sold for an eye-watering £46,000.
Terry Kneeshaw, from Darlington, County Durham, began his collection of Matchbox Regular Wheels in the 1970s.
It has grown to a whopping 450 cars over the years.
The eagle-eyed collector has categorised the artwork of each box from type A to F, as well as by model series from one through to 75.
It has been dubbed Britain’s biggest collections of Matchbox toys, and was expected to fetch £21,000.
But, with the help of Vectis Auction House, Terry sold his 50-year-old collection for £46,000.
Ahead of the sale, artist Terry said: “I loved the paintings that came together on the boxes and I have some very, very rare ones.
“I started collecting variants and it became an obsession.
“For a lot of people the cars are the most important part of the collection but for me as an artist what was more important was the pictures.
“So when I collected, I collected all the box types.”
The auction, which was held online, saw buyers from across the world bidding on 445 items.
All of them sold on the day, as reported by What’s The Jam.
Interesting cars included a Matchbox Regular Wheels 55a DUKW Amphibian.
It sold for £760 in a rare late issue type D1 box, printed by Pembroke Abbey with matching model artwork.
A Matchbox Regular Wheels 33a Ford Zodiac pair, which was estimated at £40 to £60 also sold for £539.

“Even if they are not worth a huge amount now, there is no doubt that they will become valuable, so they are worth keeping. The first one of any particular series might also be worth something in years to come”. said Charlie.
Autographs
“If you have a collection of all the Beatles’ autographs, you are sitting on a fortune!” Charlie added.
“I recently met a chap who had a book full of cricketers’ autographs – even that was worth £100.”
Comics
“A Batman Adventures Comic from 1993 could make you around £800. Comics are valuable as they are typically limited edition and quite rare,” explained the expert.

Tony Howard’s attic nearly collapsed under the weight of his massive magazine hoard – which started when he was just 12-years-old.
Elsewhere, a vintage Star Wars toy hoard found at the back of a cupboard is set to go under the hammer for an eye-watering £600,000.
The over 400 near-mint figurines – including Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader – are still in their original packaging.
Dating from the late 1970s and early 80s, the plastic toys had been stashed in a carboard box for 40 years by a pensioner.
In Livingston, Scotland, a dad-of-two hopes his giant collection of Pokémon cards will be worth more than a quarter of a million pounds.
Gordon White, 58, has been hoarding the rare trading cards for 16 years and has amassed thousands.
He has already cashed in by selling half of his collection, which fetched a whopping £200,000 when it went under the hammer in November last year.
And, a collector who found 1,246 coins over the last 45 years sold the lot for £2million.

New National Lottery owners look to increase the £49billion already raised for good causes
MORE than £49billion has been raised for good causes by the National Lottery — and its new owners are setting their sights on raising even more cash.
In February, after a lengthy regulatory process, Allwyn took over from Camelot — which had held the licence since 1994.
Andria Vidler, the firm’s chief executive, said that there was a huge amount of work to modernise the National Lottery and bring back the buzz.
Its existence has proven vital as its grants have been relied upon for the country’s sporting and artistic triumphs — as well as at grassroot levels.
Since funding began British athletes have won over 1,200 Olympic and Paralympic medals.
Allwyn has set out plans to double the amount of cash for good causes from £30million to £60million a week over the next decade of its licence.
Ms Vidler, said: “One of the biggest challenges with the National Lottery is that it has aged.
“The world has changed massively since the National Lottery was launched 30 years ago.
“Back then it was a TV spectacular hosted by Noel Edmonds and Anthea Turner and watched by a third of the population.
“Now we’re facing increased competition, not just from other lotteries but from competing demands for our attention from streaming box sets, to video games and social media.”
Still, in the eight months since Allwyn took over, it has raised £1billion for good causes.
Ms Vidler revealed Allwyn, which was founded by Czech billionaire Karel Komarek, has invested more than £350million in modernising operations.
Its revamp involves improving tech, scrapping charges for terminals and upgrading point of sale kit for retailers.
To come next year will be a new and improved digital app and website for customers.
It is also rolling out a festive launch with scratchcard gift cards and Christmas cards with more prizes to be launched next year.
Ms Vidler added: “I want the next decade for the National Lottery to be the best yet.”

ASHLEY’S BLAST AT BOOHOO
MIKE Ashley’s Frasers Group has blasted Boohoo for its “utter disregard for shareholders” and threatened the online retailer’s directors with legal action.
Mr Ashley is reeling from Boohoo snubbing his demands to become its next chief executive and promoting insider Dan Finley instead.
In response, Mr Ashley has issued another public letter saying: “This has to stop. What will they try next? Desperate people do desperate things”.
The tycoon, who is Boohoo’s biggest shareholder with a 37 per cent stake, is now calling on Boohoo to put any brand disposals to a vote and hire an investment bank to scrutinise the terms of any brand sale.
It comes amid concerns that Boohoo could sell one of its brands to someone with connections to chairman and founder Mahmud Kamani.
Boohoo said last month it could break-up the business to revive its share price.
’SPOONS PINT RISE
WETHERSPOONS’ boss Sir Tim Martin has warned the price of a pint will rise after the Budget added £60million in costs to the pub chain.
Wetherspoons, which employs more than 40,000 people, plans to pass on the costs of hikes in employers’ national insurance contributions and the minimum wage.
Analysts think it could add 5p to the price of a pint, despite record sales over the last 14 weeks, with like-for-like sales rising by 5.9 per cent.

Shoppers are only just realising ‘extinct’ Cadbury chocolate bar has returned to B&M shelves
SWEET TREAT lovers are thrilled to discover a chocolate thought to be “extinct” in the confectionary aisle of B&M.
Originally sold as a full bar, the chocolate has made a Cadbury comeback in miniature form.
Retailer B&M has sparked excitement among chocoholics after customers spotted the Cadbury Fuse Mini Treats on the shelves.
Shoppers were quick to post the find on Facebook after realising it was the beloved Fuse in smaller chunks.
One user commented: “My local one doesn’t have the fuse yet! I need them.”
Another added: “I can’t believe the fuse is back! Its about time.”
A third user responded: “Wow fuse! Need to get them haven’t seen them in a long time.”
The discovery was posted on a food finding page on Facebook and has since racked up 386 likes and 297 comments.
In the picture there are two types of Mini Treats, the 5 Star and Fuse – but all the focus was on the long anticipated return of the Fuse bar.
The cult classic chocolate bar has a soft creamy center surrounded by crunchy peanuts and gooey caramel.
With a blend of crispy cereal and sweet fudge is was pinned as a Cadbury favourite.
The treat was launched in 1996 but only lasted for a decade, being removed from shelves in the mid-2000’s.
It’s not known why the bar was discontinued but fans were gutted to see it go.
A Cadbury 1996 business stated: “The secret of the Fuse recipe is that it uses Cadbury’s chocolate as the main ingredient, fusing together a mixture of favourite snacking ingredients.”
It’s no wonder then, as a combination with the top snacks, the fuse bar became a popular treat.
Fuse bars are now rarely spotted apart from in specialist stores like Bombon.
If you’re determined you can buy the full sized Fuse in India.
Now at least with the Fuse Mini Treats, chocolate lover will get the chance to relive the the glory days in miniature form.
The Fuse bar isn’t the only treat that shoppers are calling for.
The Cadbury Time Out was found to be the most missed chocolate bar 18 to 35 year olds.
Fans were fuming after the bar was removed in favour of a new, single finger, Time Out Wafer.
The Cadburys Dairy Milk Tasters were an product that didn’t quite sell enough to keep on the shelves.
As a Malteser look-a-like the product didn’t have the crunchy centre and were eventually removed from stores.
Four years after it was launched the Mars Delight was discontinued.
A survey found 76 per cent of Brits of would love to see Mars Delight make a return.
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.
Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
