Manchester United are still searching for their replacement for Ruben Amorim who left his role as the club’s head coach earlier this week

Manchester United will reportedly make a decision on appointing Ruben Amorim’s replacement this week. United parted company with Amorim on Monday, with the Portuguese leaving Old Trafford after just 14 months in charge of the club.

Amorim’s last match at United was the 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Sunday, with the Reds now failing to win four of their last five Premier League matches and have drawn each of their last two fixtures.

That run has seen United emerge from the hectic festive fixture list over Christmas and the New Year in sixth place in the Premier League table, and are three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, but are just four ahead of Crystal Palace who are in 14th place.

Darren Fletcher has been placed in interim charge of United, with the former midfielder overseeing the coaching responsibilities for the club’s Premier League away trip to Burnley on Wednesday night.

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with a return to Old Trafford, having served as the club’s manager from 2018-21 and was most recently in charge of Besiktas.

Solskjaer is out of work once again after leaving the Turkish club in August last year, and is now being linked with a return to United once again.

Norwegian news outlet VG have provided some insight into United’s plans to appoint Solskjaer, including when they expect an announcement to be made.

It has been reported that United in negotiations over an agreement with Solskjaer to take place on Friday, although it is still unclear if this would be on a long-term or short-term deal.

The report has claimed that Solskjaer will be in Molde on Thursday to attend the funeral of Norwegian coaching legend Age Hareide, and so an agreement is unlikely to be completed before Friday.

Solskjaer became United manager in December 2018 after replacing Jose Mourinho in the Old Trafford dugout, where the appointment was initially on an interim basis before being made permanent a few months later.

After facing Burnley in the Premier League on Thursday, United will host Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup and it remains to be seen if Solskjaer will be in the dugout once again for the fixture or if it will be Fletcher or a different coach in charge.
