You can get an at-home flu ‘shot’ starting next year

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a nasally-administered influenza immunization treatment that can be taken at home. FluMist — a nasal spray vaccine that AstraZeneca initially developed as an in-office treatment two decades ago — will still require a prescription to obtain and is expected to be made available via a new online pharmacy next year, according to The New York Times.

The treatment will require people to fill out a questionnaire on the upcoming FlueMist Home website. Once approved by a pharmacist, the nasal spray will be shipped directly to the customer’s door. The current out-of-pocket cost is around $35 to $45 per dose according to the NYT, but that may drop depending on insurance coverage.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that FluMist has a similar efficacy to the traditional shot. It has been available through healthcare providers ever since it was first approved by the FDA back in 2003. It’s suitable for people aged between 2 to 49 years old — though the FDA recommends that the nasal spray be administered by a parent/caregiver to anyone under 18. The spray could be an alternative for people who are averse to getting injections, or otherwise find it difficult or inconvenient to travel for flu immunization treatments.

“Today’s approval of the first influenza vaccine for self- or caregiver-administration provides a new option for receiving a safe and effective seasonal influenza vaccine potentially with greater convenience, flexibility and accessibility for individuals and families,” said the FDA’s vaccine center director, Dr. Peter Marks. The World Health Organization reports that there are around a billion annual cases of seasonal influenza, resulting in 290,000 to 650,000 respiratory deaths each year.

YouTube Premium subscribers are reporting price hikes around the globe

YouTube is telling Premium subscribers outside the US that they’ll be paying more for the service soon, social media users began reporting over the weekend. So far, the higher prices are being reported in regions that include the EU, the Middle East, and South America, according to Android Authority.

The price increases affect both individual and family plans. In some EU countries, people have said they were told their family plans will be going from €17.99 to €25.99 (or €11.99 to €13.99 for individuals) starting on November 7th. Posts on social media are reporting similar increases in places like Singapore, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. A Reddit user is tracking the amounts in one thread.

Another Reddit user posted screenshots of a Premium Lite plan option, accompanied by a beta tag. YouTube had started piloting a version of Premium with fewer features than the standard plan in 2021 but told customers last year it was discontinuing it. (We’ve asked the company for more information on this version of Premium Lite and will update if we get a response.)

Business heads are expecting AI to work miracles within their security teams, mounting the pressures faced by already shorthanded and under-skilled security pros, new research has claimed.

A report from IDC and Expereo found 60% of CIOs saying the inclusion of AI within their security strategy has boosted their personal reputation, but 47% also say that their board has unrealistic expectations of the technology.

However, while enhancing their personal reputation could be a silver lining, 39% of respondents said that their elevated profile made their job more stressful.

AI-nxiety

Some businesses are considering introducing a ‘Chief AI Officer’ to manage the implementation of AI technologies and the opportunities and advantages they offer, but 40% of those surveyed believe that the CAIO role would gradually absorb many of the CIO responsibilities within two years.

A further 38% also fear that AI could potentially replace their role, or a role within their team, and it’s not just reserved for IT roles, with 46% stating that jobs outside of the IT sector are at risk of being replaced by automation.

“Technology leaders are at the forefront of driving innovation and transformation in their organisations, but they also face significant challenges and pressures from the business and the board,” noted Expereo CEO Ben Elms.

“It’s vital that CIOs align with their CEOs to ensure they are given the proper support by their stakeholders, teams and their external partners, to help them make the most of a challenging but exciting technology landscape.”

There are positive opportunities presented by AI, with business leaders remaining optimistic about the future of technology. 68% of business leaders stated that this is the most exciting time to be in their role, with an additional 71% believing that their current tech strategy will support growth and efficiency gains.

But with these opportunities, it is expected that the role of technology leaders will expand to encompass more responsibilities within businesses, such as orchestrating digital transformation and discovering ways of generating digital revenue in order to justify ROI for budget increases. The report also found that currently, just 7% of respondents have to justify the ROI on budget increases, but this is expected to rise to 12% within two years.

Riot Games detailed its plans for League of Legends in 2025 ahead of Worlds 2025. The most notable change coming to the game concerns its seasonal model, which will shift to be more like League of Legends‘ live service peers.

Typically, each year of League of Legends is considered one season, with several patches released throughout it. In 2025, Riot Games will hold three distinctly themed seasons of the game. Each season will bring a new Champion alongside narrative, progression, and general gameplay content updates tied to the season’s theme. This is more similar to how games like Fortnite approach their seasonal models with more clearly scheduled themed updates.

We still don’t know a lot specific details about the new content coming to League of Legends in 2025, although Riot Games says it wants to explore “the feeling of a game being doomed when the losing team has an exposed Nexus” in the year’s first season. Riot Games also addressed the future of modes like Arena and Swarm, which it has been testing. Unfortunately, Swarm and Arena will not become permanent game modes; Arena will return for a limited time sometime in the first half of 2025, though.

In the more immediate future, players can expect patch 14.20, coming October 9, to feature an art and sustainability update for the Champion Teemo and adjustments so that players don’t feel like they lose more with a loss than they gain with a win. A League of Legends Player Days Event will also occur between October 9 and October 27, bringing special missions and champion skins.

Vivo has recently confirmed that its flagship X200 series will launch on October 14 in Beijing, China. While the company has been mum about the phone it will launch initially, we expect to see the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro on the said date. Besides, multiple rumors suggest the beefiest Android phone of the series, the Vivo X200 Ultra, could launch early next year. Now, in a new leak, a popular tipster has revealed some details about the camera and processor of the Vivo X200 Ultra.

According to a reliable Weibo tipster, Digital Chat Station, the Vivo X200 Ultra could launch with a 200MP periscope camera. The tipster also claims that the flagship phone will feature three other camera lenses, each with 50MP resolution. Among the three, one main module is said to come with a “fixed large aperture.” Although there’s no specific mention of the other two 50MP lenses, it is safe to assume they’ll handle ultrawide and telephoto shots.

Considering these details, one can tell that the Vivo X200 Ultra will feature a quad-camera setup. It’s worth noting that earlier in May, the company launched the Vivo X100 Ultra with a triple-camera setup. Additionally, the tipster has also talked about the battery size of the upcoming flagship phone in a separate Weibo post. He adds that the X200 Ultra will pack a big 6000mAh battery inside. On the other hand, the flagship phone could sport a 120Hz OLED display.

Additionally, there are rumors about a mid-variant phone named the Vivo X200 Mini for this year. It could pack a 5700mAh battery, slightly lower than the 5800mAh battery size tipped for the base model, Vivo X200. Moreover, the rest of the devices from the series could pack MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 SoC under the hood.
