Darren Fletcher makes feelings crystal clear over Man Utd failure at Burnley

Manchester United failed to claim all three points as Darren Fletcher took caretaker charge at Burnley following Ruben Amorim’s sacking

Darren Fletcher accused Manchester United of blowing two vital points on his first game as interim manager. Fletcher suffered a rollercoaster start to life as caretaker boss on a frustrating night at Turf Moor.

Fletcher took charge following the sacking of Ruben Amorim – and looked to be on course for a win thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s second half brace. Sesko’s double wiped out Burnley’s opener from Bashir Humphreys inside the opening 13 minutes.

But Fletcher’s hopes of staging the perfect job interview were ruined by Clarets substitute Jaidon Anthony’s equaliser on 66 minutes. And Fletcher was left ruing United’s wastefulness in front of goal. United have now failed to beat Wolves, Leeds United and Burnley in their last three outings.

Fletcher said: “We put in a performance that should have won the match. We created a lot of chances. I thought we started slow but improved. We scored two fantastic goals, but there is still a lot to work on.

“It was about them highlighting themselves, showcasing themselves as players. It wasn’t perfect but there were a lot of good things. But we have got to score more goals.”

Burnley boss Scott Parker said: “What the team demanded of itself was right up there. It’s a great reaction from the weekend. We got back to what we need to bring to a game of Premier League football.

“It’s a big point for us. A massive point. It showed the character of the team in adversity. We stood up.”
